The BEST Third-Party Add-Ons & Sites For Guild Wars 2

Like most other games out there, Guild Wars 2 has its fair share of useful 3rd party websites and add-ons. Some of them are just generally useful and others serve more specific purposes. This video will give an overview of the resources that I think are the best and why. For newer players, I would REALLY recommend avoiding using map exploration routes during your first world completion. World exploration is a big part of Guild Wars 2 and you’ll miss out on that first-time experience if you use routes. Hopefully this video will introduce you to at least one new third party resource you’ll find useful!

I really like how you discourage newer players from using marker packs for exploration. It brings me back to the first time I made a character and was just randomly exploring the zones in gw2 and suddenly coming across various dynamic event chains.

I do a self-imposed rule of 'no mounts until map completion' for pre-POF maps (except to get to bosses/metas on time) to help with this, I love the exploration in the game.

I totally agree with your stance on Fast Farming. I would add that trying to find out how the site arrives at the valuations it does really helps with understanding the market dynamics. In your example of Charged Quartz, the prices are often inflated by high value, but low velocity items - in other terms, things that are so rarely sold that the market did not have the chance to arrive at the "real" equilibrium price. When these prices are then scarped by Fast Farming, they make the crafting ingredients for those items seem super valuable, even though there's nowhere near enough trades happening at that price point for it to be viable. Another thing is making sure one understands time gates for currencies and trade - you can't assume your 1.000.000 Karma will give you ~750 gold because you can't just buy the 140 Antique Summoning Stones needed for that in one go, since those are limited to one purchase weekly; but that's a conclusion you could arrive at if you just took at quick look at Fast Farming's Karma conversion page.

Hey Abree an idea for another video is a WvW guide from the point of view of someone going in specifically (and only) for a legendary. You could talk about the menu that opens, which map(s) to join, following a zerg vs. roaming, best places/ways of completing the dailies, etc. Purely for people that dislike or are not interested in pvp. I have a 10 year old character and I started WvW for the first time as it's my last item I need for my first legendary (besides necklace), I have NO IDEA what I'm doing the entire time. Even in a zerg, I'm just wandering around with the commander, trying to tag anything in the general area so I can hopefully get participation. I can understand if you're hesitant, though, if we maybe are getting any sort of WvW changes soon(TM).
@abree107
@abree107 Жыл бұрын
It's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure if there's a lot of people that would be interested in that. As someone who dislikes WvW, I think flipping camps is the easiest way to get your gift of battle and that seems like a fairly short topic.

Hardstuck might also be a good place to look for pve builds, especially since they've added low intensity builds for newer players or people with disability issues. i really dont want to be rude, but why would you need someone to make a guide and tell you how to manage your inventory? like, its no rocket science... i dont get why ppl need guides and instructions for everything nowadays. its so weird. if you dont know what an items does and if you should sell it, or if you might need it in the future, then go look it up or read the item description. a video guide cant possibly tell you that for each item you might come across. and if you read some item descriptions, or look them up on the wiki or trading post, you quickly realize which items are trash which you vendor to npcs, and which are not. cmon guys, use brain, you can figure out simple things like this without guides and instructions, i believe in you!

I would never recommend anything the goes against the GW2 terms of service. Everything shown is this video is currently acceptable. I can't guarantee that it will always be that way, because I don't develop the applications. ArenaNet could change their stance in the future or the makers of these add ons could add features that aren't allowed by the terms of service. You'll probably hear people making a stink if it ever happens though and I'd say it's unlikely. Also, not a technical expert, but I believe Blish HUD is just an overlay that has the ability to observe what's on your screen and use API data if you want it to. I don't think it actually interacts with game data but I could be wrong on that.

I was utterly stunned the first time I used Taco. Such a small program that you open for the first time and boom, it's showing you paths from you to your objectives or exploration in real time, no matter how much you move your camera or teleport around. Maybe it's simpler than I think--I have no programming skill at all--but it seems insanely technically skillful for a free add-on.

So.. do you get kicked from parties for not using optimized builds
@abree107
@abree107 Жыл бұрын
That will typically depend on the people forming the group, the content you're trying to do, and how far off your build is. Nobody will notice if you use a raid build for fractals. They aren't THAT different. And you're unlikely to be kicked from a dungeon or tier 1-2 fractal group for not having a good build. But if you go into a raid or fractal CM group and you're using full soldier's gear, you're definitely going to be booted because that's just not appropriate for that content and people don't want to be forced to drag you through it. There's a certain level of respect that you want to have for other people's time when it comes to higher end content, just like any other team activity. It's considerate to be prepared. If you're not sure if the build is appropriate, the best thing to do is ask the people in the group. Soldier's gear is probably fine for the Shiverpeaks Pass strike, but definitely not fine for most raid encounters. I'd wager the vast majority of complaints in PvE groups could be avoided if people communicated their expectations up front.

very useful information. The add-on that you didn't mention is an add-on that tracks Legendary Bounties as they pop up. One may not exist. I'm trying to save time by not having to port from location to location looking for a Leg on the bounty boards. If you, or someone watching this video, know of a way to do that, it would be very helpful. Thanks.
@abree107
@abree107 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I don't think such a thing would be able to exist. Someone more technically oriented may have a better explanation, but I don't think you'd be able to have an application detect what's available on the bounty board without physically being there and seeing it, nor detect when the bounty gets spawned. Your best bet for that is to check LFG consistently and maybe see if someone posts legendary bounty trains in a large Discord server that has train alerts. I've not personally seen a post for one of the Path of Fire maps in quite a while, but Living World Season 4 trains often do legendary bounties in between meta events.
@madmagus7693
@madmagus7693 Жыл бұрын
@@abree107 The reason I brought it up is that I do Legendary Bounties nearly every day. I was looking for a way to more efficiently track them without having to pop into each way point with a bounty board to check. I'm sure it's just a bit of programming to come up with an app. All such data is in the game to be gathered. I just don't have the programming skills necessary to access the data. It would be no different than tracking any other event timer, even if they are random. Thanks for the response. I appreciate it.
Жыл бұрын
@@madmagus7693 It's not about programming*, but that there most likely isn't any information for bounties to use unless you go near enough the bounty boards to get the information on what it has. After all, the respawning times depend on when said bounty was last killed (or failed). *) Also accessing game memory like that would be a big infringement on the EULA. Taco, Blish modules etc use either the in-game Mumble API or data provided by Anet servers with the api-key and contain only the limited information Anet has decided to provide. Bounty respawn information isn't part of that
@madmagus7693

Blish HUD uses 20% more of GPU than TacO So if u have a low-end PC or laptop don't use it *************************************** Edit: I found a solution for the GPU usage if any1 faced the same problem Go to Overlay Setting in Blish HUD and under the graphics settings make the frame limiter to (locked to 30 fps) instead of (locked to 90 fps)

@blishhud Жыл бұрын
If anyone is seeing any significant GPU usage for Blish HUD, please reach out in our Discord - we've worked very hard to optimize our pathing module functionality and are willing to help ensure anyone using Blish HUD can do so optimally. In direct comparisons to TacO (both running with default settings) running the same 3 large marker packs gives me: Blish HUD: 0.3% CPU, 177 MB Memory, 0.6% GPU TacO: 3.8% CPU, 154 MB Memory, 0.3% GPU At that small of GPU utilization, though, it seems unlikely to be a real factor, so I suspect we may be running into issues where a laptop's integrated GPU is mistakenly running Blish HUD or TacO instead of a dedicated GPU.

I disagree on map exploration if you want to know the most memorable memories you will make with out add-ons finding everything its where is this point of interest time to google it o its on the other side of the map under the water going throw a underwater cave to get to it or something like that. for a place you will never see in the game again. time to take a screen shot if not you just wasted lots of time to find it. or the fun of having a boss that can more or less one shot you right in the way of a jumping puzzle to get to a map. o the memories. sometimes it feels like the world was designed by a sadist. but on the other hand each zone has very fun things to do in it and you will never see it all. but that is with the events in the zone not with map exploration. just my personal opinion from experience. but its all in what you like there are a lot of hidden nooks and crannies that are hard to find so you do feel like not most people have been hear before unless they where hardcore on this game. this is one of those games that swings hard one way and hard the other way. somethings you will love and other things you will straight up hate. one minute its all about the jumping puzzles next its about mindlessly grinding in fractals in the next its about pvp in the next its about map exploration in the next its about mastery. its all mostly horizontal progression the problem with this game is it may not work well with friends example your friends may love the jumping puzzles and you hate them with a passion. or you like doing dungeons and your friends like doing fractals better. you see the problem. its a game that works against itself because it doesn't have one path of progression every-time you do something new you more or less half to find new friends. it can be very off-putting for anti-social people that like to keep a close group of the same friends. you really have to open yourself up to people to play this game and have fun. witch most gamers are different to your everyday joe in some way shape or form witch can make it hard to find friends some times especially if you're more moderately antisocial. its a love hate thing for me with this game its my new wow now days though. because its better quality all around than wow. it would not be if they where both sub based though. then wow would win by a hair. so in short its payment plan does not need to change. its something is all I can say. you have to try everything before you come to weather its good or bad.
