Just got my email saying mine was ready to ship. I can't wait! Living in Interior Alaska and shooting lots in the cold I think the big knob will be great for gloved hands when shooting Aurora. I appreciate your enthusiasm for photography and life, keep up the great work Nate!

I actually had an opportunity to try this ballhead on a workshop in Iceland and it was great even in extreme weather. I pre-ordered one when I returned home. Great innovative design. It should win some awards.

Well, shame they don’t ship outside the United States (as indicated on the large strip banner across their homepage). Canada has a smaller population but a very deep one for photography. They are missing out, as are we perhaps.

Looks like a great evolution of this piece of gear. I just purchased a gear-driven tripod head, but this might have to join my camera bag.

I heard of this product back at launch and now that I'm looking to purchase, finally, I'm between this and a Novoflex Magic Ball 50. Some benefits of the Aspen are apparent, like integrated panning. Any experience in this comparison, specifically?

I do a lot of northern lights photography in Alaska. This ball head would be a game changer compared to the ball head I’m using now.

I actually received this ballhead after… 2-3 years of waiting; no joke. I’ve used many ballheads (RRS, Acratech, Kirk , Arcaswiss monoball etc…). Bottomline, the Aspen is a very unique and excellent ballhead that some other company should make. Primary cons: #1. There’s slight but noticeable laxity between the top ballhead and bottom rotating plate, which translates into inaccurate framing. Nice you tighten the knob, it’s solid but because of the slight laxity, you have to “guess” where you framing of the scene is going to end up. I’m guessing poor engineering or quality control? The other minor issue is the panning knob is in a bad location and the ergonomics and feel are terrible. It should independently rotate. Other than the above ( which are big issues), this ballhead has great potential: it’s light and the functionality is awesome (ability to move the ball in more directions compared to a traditional ballhead; you don’t have to fiddle with funding out where the drop notch is). Some company should take over the design / quality control, marketing and of course distribution of product.

Ahhhh, so stoked about these!!

Looks like a fun head but mostly my existing Novo ballhead does all the same things by having a pano ring on top of the ball as well as below. And I use an L bracket for portrait mode.. And it is much cheaper and weighs around the same at 444g. It does mean extra controls though and not user repairable. But an interesting video, thanks for alerting us to new possibilities.

Where is the level placed? For panos a level on the plate holder I the one thing missing.

how do you adjust the lever. i bought this because i have gfx 50s 2.. i have a cage but it dosent seem to be able to go wide enough . when it does its because im sliding it in from the side, but still renders the lever usless...i even tried it with other plates no joy

What makes a really good review is a nice clean continuous shot of the product instead of the host's face. Users are often more interested in looking at the product more so than at the face of the speaker. It's an O.K. review but it would have been better had the review had a longer shot of the actual tripod.

So its been almost a year since I put a Reservation deposit on a aspen ballhead, decided to ask for a refund. They do not respond to any of my emails and I think they are no longer in business, just a heads up if your thinking of getting one…

You could use a L plate and you wont have to move the tripod when flipping to vertical. At 4:24, not best practice regardless of what it can hold when it bends or snaps the flange or just makes it all front heavy..

Worse company to deal with ever. No reply from my emails or phone calls. I would love to buy one but live overseas and there isn't an option to post overseas

Watch what happens when you get dirt and sand in all those ballhead holes. You have to constantly clean it out or it will ruin the friction and not be smooth anymore. Dont take this to the beach, ocean, or desert.
