People were curious about why I didn't really acknowledge Jacob Collier, so here we go -- I think he's a genius + he's one of the most talented musicians in the world. He deserves every ounce of his success and so on...but that doesn't mean that I enjoy listening to his music. He loves to make these veeeery complex arrangements with really strange harmonies, and that's just not really for me. I would never say that he's a bad musician or anything. I went through a phase in college when I was obsessed with people like him, Snarky Puppy, Lettuce, etc. The more complicated, the better. But that's just not really what I'm into right now. i think there are definitely inconsistencies in the data, as how good an album is, is subjective. i think alot of mainstream music recieves worse reviews simply due to it being more popular, and i think more obscure music ends up with higher ratings, as fans tend to be very engaged with the music, and critics love anything non-mainstream

I personally think that Born this Way and Beyoncé were amazing albums that deserved their nominations. At the time of their releases, they were both considered the magnum opus of the two artists respective careers. They both brought something new and innovative to pop. Lady Gaga blended themes of acceptance, love, being true to who you are with electronic, metal, and even jazz sounds while Beyoncé created an album about the liberation of a woman that was beautifully sonic with its r&b, pop, electro pop, and a little bit of soul. Plus they both made wonderful visuals for the albums. Lady Gaga was creating weird fantasy short films and Beyoncé made a whole visual album. In my opinion, just because something is mainstream doesn’t mean it lacks artistry, thought, or value. Then again, this is just my opinion.

That's also the most views I've ever seen on a video. I'm not sure about the sales, as it was released at the start of the 'downloads/streaming' era, but I imagine it sold quite a lot. Plus, Katy Perry was massive back then. I think Teenage Dream deserved the award. I'm not biased in any way, although I do like Perry's music and both Roar and Last Friday Night make my favourite songs of all time (of which there are almost 5000). I only seek to lay out what I know about the albums achievement, and also to consider how big Katy Perry was at the time. I remember you couldn't go anywhere without hearing her on the radio. A lot of people I knew in my year in primary school at the time liked to sing her songs. I'm not saying the other albums were bad, or that Teenage Dream is of significantly better quality, but TD was absolutely massive in terms of success. For me, if an album's that successful, you can't just write it off as 'boring and generic' or whatever, because people obviously loved it. It's like The Beatles. I might not be a big fan of Abbey Road or Sgt Pepper's, but I can't write them off or criticise them too harshly because of how successful they were and how they revolutionised music. I personally don't care about critics or fan reviews, somewhat because I usually don't agree with them, but mostly because I have my own opinions and don't see the point of using or even reading/listening to those reviews or ratings because they don't reflect my personal opinion. Don't get me wrong, there might be the rare one that does, and I'm talking more obscure than Brocas Helm rare, but the overwhelming majority just don't.

She even released a deluxe version and went on the K-12 Tour. Melanie worked on this album and film for four years straight, yet she wasn’t even nominated for a Grammy. Mac Miller: After Mac’s tragic passing, his album was nominated for a Grammy. The Recording Academy flew Mac’s parents out to the Grammy’s, and his mother had a suit made. There wasn’t even a tribute to him and he did not win a Grammy. Instead, the Grammy went to Cardi B. I’m tired and I can’t think of more, so reply with more :)

1989 and Teenage Dream are THE pop albums of the 2010’s

1:04 this might seem like an ordinary meme clip but it is actually one of the teachers at my old elementary school Mr.Martin who was on a teacher’s jeopardy tournament and ended winning the whole thing but later that year he passed away from cancer a few months later after. He was a second grade teacher who ran our school paper. I never had him in a class but one year he was right across the hall for my class that year. He was probably the kindest person at my old school and although I never had him a lot of my friends did and according to them he was the best teacher they ever had.

Teenage Dream is Iconic, when you say it, people remember it, it defined pop for the next years, and to this day, still stands the test of time, which unlike more time specific albums

The Grammys have never been fair, the notion that it went downhill started because now we have access to a lot more albums, critic ratings, sales and public opinions, it's not worse now, the internet just made their flawed and rigged system apparent.

The fact that Born to Die (2012) by Lana del Rey wasn't nominated is a disgrace, she paved the way for Indie/folk baroque pop to become mainstream, her art has been replicated and printed in praised albums such as Folklore, Melodrama, WWAFAWDWG. Lana was Snubbed. HEAVILY SO and is continued to be stripped and minimized from her own legacy. This woman doesn't have a single grammy. Lizzo already has 3. There is something wrong there.

I disagree with a lot of what you said. some of these albums were nominated because they changed pop or they changed a genre it was the start of something new, the popularity of someone doesn’t always guarantee a nominee or an award. Tyler, The Creator’s albums always tell a story and it’s always a character to the album and a lot of people don’t understand that and they think it’s weird. But that’s really something a lot of people are missing they used to just hearing songs but not hearing the story behind the song. He got snubbed for album of the year with igor. I hope he wins this year.

I have to disagree that “do wops and huligans” and “recovery” were the worst nominees because they made such a big impact

You talked about user score and how a lot of the albums not nominated had higher ones, but consider that the albums put out by superstars have a lot more exposure than the relatively obscure ones which are only listened toby their fanbases, and thats why they have a higher score, while people (specially rival fandoms) might intentionally give bad reviews. Not to say that it's not good music, but in that regard at least things might not be so black and white.. Another thing I disagree on is 1989. I'm not a very huge taylor swift fan, and i've only recently gotten into music, but i remember when the album came out. I went to an all boys school, and half my class knew the lyrics to Blank Space. When i went to pick up my sister from her school once, i remember there was a huge group of girls singing that song, while no one had even heard of any of the others. I live in a country where english isn't the first language, and I'm from a relatively remote town where the music is even more ignored. Not to say the other albums weren't great, but if you take in the sheer impact of 1989, it easily washes the others out. All that said, the grammys are a scam and the weekend deserved better.
