Thank you for your review of "The Best Years of Our Lives." I have seen this movie a number of times, probably at least four times, although not recently. To me, it is a rewatchable film even though it is long, and I have enjoyed it every time. Harold Russell, who played Homer, was a World War II veteran who lost his hands during his military service and, as you said, was not a professional actor but did an excellent job here. For his performance, he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. The film also won six additional Oscars, including Best Actor for Fredric March, Best Director for William Wyler, and Best Picture.
