It is commonly claimed that the canon was decided at the Council of Nicaea. This is my response.

I have learned a whole lot through Michael and I'm grateful! I wish you would hv contacted his ministry in order to find out whether he still holds to this teaching....it's better to bring an issue by a brother *first* None of us are beyond correction n no individual owns all truth but God Almighty.

This was from a video recently (like two weeks ago) posted on his TikTok. But point taken. I will email his ministry and ask if he still believes this. If he doesn't, and he agrees to take down his video, I will take down mine.

It's certainly true that we should issue private rebukes for personal offenses, but it seems to make sense to publicly oppose public offenses (especially if someone is publishing libel against righteous men - of the present or past).

In the scriptures, specifically the book of Acts, the apostles were apart of councils there too to counter the false teachings of the Jews on keeping the law. The reason these councils are, is because false teachings arise and it must be dealt with. The apostles dealt with the Jews teaching falsely at their council, and the council of Nicaea dealt with Arian’s false teaching that Jesus wasn’t God. False teachings that needed to be settled.

Michael Rood has done a whole lot of good work! And though it’s true Rood said this.... I wonder if he still believes this? Who can know everything about everything? It’s always best to speak on things you know. And even when you think you know... someone or something comes along and reveals even more. My gentile grandma once told me: Blowing out someone candle doesn’t making yours shine brighter. Just love how Messianic believers are eating each other up like cannibals. Something at the core must be seriously wrong.

@@DavidWilberBlog I wonder if the mixup started with Jerome (347-420) where he mentions the book of Judith having been considered canon at that particular council. Could he have been mistaken? Was Jerome thinking of a different council? Could the books of the Bible have been discussed as a side conversation at that council? Surely it was a hot subject but maybe not the main most pressing purpose for that council at nicea. After all, we know that Fifty Bibles of Constantine in 331, who commissioned Eusebius, to deliver them to the churches. So what did he deliver? To compile 50 bibles he would have had to have pick the books. Did he do that picking alone? We know that the canon of scriptures, though organic, was an ongoing debate back then. Seems to still be around today. We also know that the original meaning of canon was “a straight line or rod” and was widely used generically to refer to all sorts of beliefs. Paul used the idea in Corinthians and Galatians. Clement used it. Irenaeus used it as “the canon of truth” regarding baptism. Other uses for it at that time was the canon of faith and the canon of preaching and the canon of true religion. And earlier as the canon for orthodox belief as “the canon” at the council of Antioch in 269AD which dealt with 25 canons. It didn’t just deal with books but also tenants or dogmas or core creed. Was it compiled at the council of Laodicea? To include any of the apocrypha? I think it was Voltaire (1600’s) that first started this “rumor” from the Synodicon Vetus and not really Dan Brown. What was literal Christianity? To defend against Gnostics or the Arian heresy the surely would have used scripture to refute it come to agreement. So they must have come together on scripture (beyond all the ongoing disputes over what was inspired and what was not) and determined what Gnosticism and Docetism was and what was not. And we most certainly know they were gentile Christians, antisemitism was growing, and that replacement theology was rampant. Just what books did Eusebius put in “the Bible” during this time? Just because Augustine found it necessary to deal specifically with canon of scripture... it doesn’t mean this wasn’t an issue or discussed at Nicea. Listen, Doctrine is not the word of God. The word of God is the word of God. Man interprets the word of God and comes up with doctrine ie 40k denominations. So the council most certainly rested on doctrine (man made doctrine). Was the Bible complied there? Of course not. Still we have people today debating what is inspired. “Saint” Athanasius was at this council and went home and wrote about the 27 books. So while we see the itinerary of that council doesn’t deal specifically with the 27 books... what came from it is certainly the fruit of it. Could Rood have misspoke? Did he make some connections that indicated this council resulted in the canon of scripture? Nothing comes in a vacuum. What we do today as a body will echo into the future. While I don’t worship Michael, I don’t know him personally, and I don’t agree with everything anyone says.... I don’t put people on blast. Maybe there’s more to the story. I encourage you to reach out to him and ask him what he meant. He seems to be someone that would clarify or would even recant if he learned he was wrong. Shalom!

Nice video. However "Christians widely recognized the authority of the writings" you know that's not how the cannon came to be. Even the sources you mentioned Athanasius, had a different OT list than any bible today, and Eusebius wrote about the disputed books, many of those disputed books are in today's bibles.

Incorrect my brother you're doing a video and talking about how people haven't done the research but unfortunately it doesn't look like you have done your research either. The original holy Bible/canon was created by the Catholic Church at three different African councils starting with the council of hippo and 393 then in the council of Carthage in 397 and 419. The people that you're talking about that all decided on what the Canon would be made up of were all catholics. Interesting you leave out important details. They weren't just regular people. They were members of the church that Jesus Christ started and there was only one church at that time and that was the Catholic church. If you'd like to discuss this more or have a debate I'd be happy to provide my sources and proof. Peace be with you brother! 😁✝️🤍📖🙏🏻⛪🕊️

When you use words like "Idiot" to describe someone, you automatically put yourself out there to be judged as an idiot yourself. My question is this: they were idiots and you are?... Not? Dont just suppose your are smarter than the scholar with a PHD that was raise by a Rabbi and lived in the land and has seen the documents. By the way I went to yeshiva school for 6years myself.

Respectfully, by your own standard, I could turn this around on you and ask why you didn't come to me privately first instead of making a public comment to criticize me. Michael's false statement was a public teaching on a public platform. Rood did not personally sin against me, so I am not required to go to him first to address his teaching privately. I also hope that others question the validity of my teachings instead of just believing what I say without question. I am not beyond criticism. Nobody is. We should not be afraid to disagree and offer criticisms of people's public teachings.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Council of Laodicea decided on most of the Biblical canon that has since changed. They then excuted the first Christian to be executed by other Christians for having non canon books soon after

Respectfully, I have addressed this issue in written form before as well. Making a video is another way to correct this false claim so that more people will see it, especially followers of Rood who might be misinformed and led astray into questioning the validity of Scripture because of his public statements. Ideally, Rood would receive correction, take down the extremely popular video clip where he makes this false statement, and make a new video correcting the record. Since that will not happen, it is important for others to address his false claims publicly. I am more interested in truth and protecting people from false teaching than I am people's feelings. I hope others would correct me if I make false claims.

@@DavidWilberBlog As this is not a 'salvation' issue, I don't see the need to go against another ministry. Why is any time being devoted to destroying the body in the last days? Who cares when the Bible was codified? I don't see how this did anything positive, as just explaining the origins of our Bible would have been far more helpful and far less hurtful.
