#Mattbegreat I am a life-long Michigan fan (55 years old next month) and finally attended my first Michigan game last season. I went through Arctic Survival Training in 1988 while serving in the Marine Corps and that Illinois game froze my cahones off. The wind chill was at or below 0⁰ the entire game. I wore two pair of socks, two pairs of sweat pants, a tee-shirt, a thermal long sleeve shirt, a thick hoodie and a water resistant winter jacket with thick gloves and a ski cap and by time kickoff arrived I was freezing my A$$ off. Thank God the snow held off until I was half way home. I spent 45 minutes in the car with the heat blowing at MAX to stop shivering so bad that driving would be impossible. The game was great. I was first row, right behind the Michigan bench. So, besides the icy wind the experience was once in a lifetime. I lived in Huntsville, AL for 21½ years and Alabama is my #3 team behind Michigan and Air Force (personal reasons). I have never begrudged the SEC their dominance. It is one simple fact that will keep the SEC stronger, fear of cold weather keeping "most" of these young men below the Mason Dixon Line. I would have loved to have attended a game at Bryant-Denny, but the opprotunity never arose. Keep up the Great work brother and Roll Blue!!! 😂😂😂

I am a 65 year fan of the Washington Huskies in my seventies and have a very positive feeling about our moving into the Big Ten. I feel that it will elevate the Big Ten, by them gaining further experiences with different offensive and defensive theories, enhancing their results against the other conferences in big time football. I think that the Big Ten can become one of the truly dominant conferences, also with the enhanced playoff schedule, with more and more successful championship appearances, augmented by the four incoming Pac 12 teams, too. But, then again, I am noted for my very positive expectations.

Based on Florida State, Miami, & Clemson whining … it’s about Money (champion, that’s nice) - that pays sports bills. - For the SEC, you realize those former SWC and Big-8 teams now in SEC .. LEFT because of Texas. Start the Clock … when SEC wants to kick out Texas (or Texas wants to kick out teams). - Yes, you ranted too long. SEC was built for Football championships, and threw CSB Sports (30+ year w/SEC) to the curb. B1G since 2004 focused on broader agenda - Good Content/National Audience; Recruiting; Money for Sports Dept. Thank ESPN for trying to “lowball” media offer to Jim Delany in 2004 … he opened the door for sports media competition. - Next steps ~2030 you will not like. Separation of college age football as a semi-pro sport, possible NFL connections, NIL turns to Salary? The fact that Florida State went to Wall Street for Private Equity $$ opened that door (Welcome to 2008 crisis repeat). Might only be room for 24-32 semi-pro teams at that level.

I am a Big 10 fan and however much I want their teams to win I so agree the SEC is stronger. There is not really any argument there as it has been proven repeatedly over time. One thing for the conferences bringing in new teams with realignment. The new teams are going to win some conference games and they will be at the expense of the other programs, not just the weaker ones. There will very likely be some surprises that upset the established conference hierarchy and that will be a good thing to come out of all this chaos.

If the SEC wanted to do a mega expansion they should target 6 teams: 1. FSU, 2. Kansas, 3. Oklahoma State, 4. Clemson, 5. Tulane, and 6. North Carolina. Personally, I don’t like Kansas as an SEC team, they aren’t southern and they’re sure as hell not south eastern, but they’re the best sports school to join rather than adding a more reasonable school like Georgia tech. If we realign the divisions we could have 11 teams in each and it’d better balance each division: Western Division: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, A&M, Kansas, Missouri, LSU, Tulane, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Mississippi State. Eastern Division: Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, FSU, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Clemson, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Auburn. Both divisions are pretty stacked. Texas, Tulane, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, and Missouri are all top 25 contenders in the West, and Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, FSU, and Clemson (if they get it together next season) can also be top 25 contenders. You could literally have a 12 team playoff just with SEC teams and it’d work in this expansion. Kansas and North Carolina each have phenomenal basketball teams and also have solid football programs to boot. It would effectively make the SEC a super conference.

Hopefully the Big Ten and SEC and whatever left with merge and we can go back to natural rivalries. Until then, give me a campus and an internet and keep up with who’s where and when and what. Because we know WHY. $$$$$$& $$$$$&. Maryland sold it’s sold for Big Ten money. Bad.

Since expansion in 2012 the SEC East has only had 3 teams make it to the SEC championship. Georgia, Florida and Mizzou. All multiple times. The SEC West since 2012 have also had only 3 make the title game. Bama, Auburn, LSU. The real question is when will someone outside those East & West power teams make a championship game appearance?

Compare each team in their current state between each other. I will even cut off Indiana and Nowrthwestern, the 2 worst Big 10 teams. 1. Georgia > Michigan 2. Alabama > (lil bro) Ohio State 3. LSU > Penn State 4. Texas < USC 5. Tennessee > Washington 6. Oklahoma < Oregon 7. South Carolina < Wisconsin 8. Ole Miss > UCLA 9. Texas A&M > Maryland 10. Auburn > Illinois 11. Mississippi State > Iowa 12. Kentucky > Purdue 13. Arkansas > Minnesota 14. Florida > Nebraska 15. Missouri > Michigan State 16. Vanderbilt > Rutgers SEC wins 13-3, and if Florida State and Clemson joined the conference, it would be 15-3.

I believe Ga would have beaten Mich this year. Bama laid an egg. Maybe that's why Nick retired. He's getting old and has lost his get up and go. It took Bama some coach searching last time to get a real winner.

Overall I agree. I think SEC's is the best conference simply because the SEC's best 5 teams are still better than the B1G's top 5 teams. The gap definitely shrunk with the additions of USC and Oregon though. I don't think you can leave Iowa out as a perennial top-25 team. They usually have a top-10 defense in the country every year but the offense stagnates. And they're ranked #26 going into 2024 now to my knowledge. I know they have to prove it, but Nebraska was probably the most competitive losing team in the country the last couple of years. Matt Rhule will start hitting Texas and Oklahoma for recruits to help them win some more of those one score games. The stat I like the most (which isn't definitive) is the conference bowl record. Teams are matched against teams of similar quality in a neutral site game. Top 25 rankings are all subjective but winning and losing, like the playoffs and title game, is handled on the field. There doesn't seem to be an updated list online, but most years, there's not this major gap between the B1G and SEC.
@brettg948111 ай бұрын
Iowa will probably never be in the top 25 again now that they have to play four more tough programs every year. This is actually a disaster for them and other marginal top 25 programs in the Big Ten too.
@MattLindon-wv8jy11 ай бұрын
Id argue they probably arent on a neutral field all conditions being equal.
@heartbreak2511 ай бұрын
@@MattLindon-wv8jy If you look at 2021 the SEC was lile. 6-5 and the B1G was 5-6. If you have a complete list covering the last 10 or 20 years then great. But if you do a quick Google search, there's no mention of one conference dominating bowl season over another. You'd be overrating teams like South Carolina every year and underrating teams like Iowa.
@heartbreak2511 ай бұрын
@@brettg9481 I don't know what the B1G will be like in expansion. People thought Nebraska would kill it and it didn't happen. All I know is that in 2023, they still have a strong defense and they're currently ranked around #26 in preseason polls. If all they do is score 10 more points a game they're an 8 win team easily.
@brettg948111 ай бұрын
@@heartbreak25 I think it will be a lot harder for programs like Iowa, Nebraska and Wisconsin to make the playoffs now. More money doesn't always translate to a better fan experience. Ask the SEC programs that get top 25 recruiting classes and then routinely struggle to even make bowl games due to how hard their conference schedules are.
