In case you were curious lubes are like car engine oils in that the number is tells you about how viscous it is as a fluid and the greater the number the more viscous so less fluid it is. This is sometimes referred to as a fluids “weight” which is why car engine oils have 2 numbers like 0w20. 0 is the viscosity at a cold engine temperature, 20 is the viscosity at a running engine temperature and the W means weight. In the case of switch lubes only the last digit matters so krytox 20(3) is the same as trybosis 320(3).

I think it's important to mention since it's rarely addressed in lubing vids.. Lubing the top housing and bottom side of the stem rails will dampen the sound of bottom out and the return. Personally, these are the most important sound factor for me. I like a butter smooth feel so I tend to go super light coats on all the components. For tactiles, I don't lube the stem but rather both the housings to prevent spillover on the legs and leaves. Gazzew suggests this on most of his switches along with donut dippong the springs. Honestly, whatever you do, try to be as consistent as possible. This is prob the most important for getting all the switches to sound the same.

I've switched to lubing the stem and leaf only now. I just do a slightly thicker coat on the entire exterior of the stem and a couple swipes where the stem legs contact the leaf. I've found this almost imperceivable to full lubing housings while taking muuuuch less time. Thanks for the content King

By the way I was wondering, if we avoid the leg and the leaf as this tutorial indicates, would the 205g0 be even better for tactile switches? Because theoretically you are not loosing any tactility, but at the same time you are getting maximum smoothness. But I am a noob, so just my guess and hope to hear everyone's opinion. Thanks.
@supernova23582 жыл бұрын
its all down to preference, 205g0 is thicker but doesnt necessarily make the switch 'smoother'
@kylemorales93432 жыл бұрын
I used TriboSys 3203 for tactiles. It's really smooth and it doesn't affect tactility but it's harder to find and kind of expensive. Edit: I forgot to mention, 205g0 is harder to use cause it gets everywhere but as long as you don't overlube, you're good good.
@IronCan882 жыл бұрын
@@kylemorales9343 yeah I end up buying both. I like the tribosys since it's easier to work with. With the 205 I feel like it's easy to over-lube. Thanks for your inputs.
