The Big Helix: Final Track and Running a Train (341)

Today we'll wrap up this series on connecting the helix to the main layout benchwork. In this video we'll finish laying track on the bridge and the benchwork, add a few feeders, and then run a train from hidden staging all the way up the helix and out onto the main layout level.

When I had a helix, I learned pretty quickly to change all my plastic couplers to Kadees. (Take a guess why!)

It’s 5’ diameter, so about 5 1/2’ overall

5’ diameter so 5 1/2’overall. But you can go smaller depending on your rolling stock. I talked about this in the planning video.

If you have to take up the track you glued down how hard is it to do that? I like the idea of gluing the track down.

The crossover I was working with had been lifted from another area on the layout due to a change in plans. The adhesive holds well but you can easily slide a thin knife under the ties to lift a section. However that may only be true for the Liquid Nails for Projects. I have not tested other adhesives. The good thing about Liquid Nails for Projects is it will not eat through foam if you need to lay it directly without cork.

Hi you say that you use tortoise motors have you seen Mccinleys railway on you tube he has about 400 on his layout and become defective and had to replace most of them and done a modification on them all thought I’d let you know
