Always great to watch your show. I always liked how you would take your Dad hunting and allow him a past on what ever deer he thought was right for him. My Dad helped me develop the love for the great outdoors when I was young. I also picked up the torch and started my children for a life in the great outdoors. As Dad got older and needed help getting in and out of the woods I new that it was my turn to help complete the cycle. Dad went home to be with the LORD on May 26, 2006. Dad left me the 742 rifle I bought him in 1972 for father day and that November of 2006 I shot the biggest ten pointer weighting 203 lbs. field dressed ( that big for Georgia) with his rifle at Piedmont National Forest in middle Georgia where it all stared out forty years earlier for me. I'm now 61and the same aging pain have caught up with me. I can't wait till my sons and grand children step up for me. Thank Again for all your hunts and knowledge that you pass along.

That is so cool seeing the history with mr hamby’s property. I can’t wait to try some of these things when I get my own farm. A lot of the land here in Virginia has been abused over the years before people really understood the consequences of the farming and timber practices they were using. I guess if I started in my 30s and the property is not the best I could have a gem 15 or more years later.

It is so refreshing to see your family's commitment to God and your dedication to deer hunting! May our Lord and Savior continue to bless all of you! As a side note, in your experience, do you prefer the 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor for deer? Which has been the most accurate and which has been the most effective on deer? Is your max range about 300 yards? God bless you my brother in Christ! BTW, this episode is awesome.

I switched from core lokt to federal, to winchester, to barnes, to Remington $40/box, and have since gone to hornady american whitetail. I have shot about 15 with the hornady. Half were neck shot does, the other half were behind the shoulder shots. Of the behind the shoulder shots about half of them ran. Furthest was about 40 yards. Two had no blood trail at all. One I could tell from its reaction that it was going to be dead quick and when I stood where I shot it I could see its belly. The other I found after a 3 minute half moon walk in the direction it ran. I love the bullets and dont plan to switch.

Hey guys, i have a question. Do you guys ever harvest bucks with bad genetics?
@tbrown913
@tbrown913 4 жыл бұрын
Search his videos for comparing genetics and nutrition. I watched it yesterday! There was a controlled study done on deer from the same state where body size and antler inches were compared over a few generations. What they found was that genetics plays a far lower significance than nutrition when it comes to growing bigger bucks. The comparison was done on 3 year old deer.
@GrowingDeerTV
@GrowingDeerTV 4 жыл бұрын
Josh - Does carry 70%+ of the genes for antler traits. There's no way to know with wild does if her past offspring had large antlers (no pedigree or breeding record like with captive deer or cattle). So culling never works in the wild. We simply try to harvest enough does that all the herd has plenty of quality groceries and allow bucks to mature to at least 3 if not 4 years old. - grant

What caliber is that gun?
@GrowingDeerTV
@GrowingDeerTV 4 жыл бұрын
Brooks - 6.5 Creedmoor. Basically a .26 caliber. There's no need to shoot big calibers for whitetails. grant

at 74 I never could afford camo so just ware my blue jeans and jacket and dress for the weather, got just as many as most camo hunters out there, so why the expense in camo is my question. can some one answer me why camo.? Thanks.
@GrowingDeerTV
@GrowingDeerTV 3 жыл бұрын
Harold - Sounds like you've had a great hunting career! Camo helps in many situations. However, sitting still (no movement) is great camo!

@@GrowingDeerTV Let me correct my comment for you. Those 2 whippersnappers don't look like they have a pot to piss in. Good thing they shoot 10 deer a day. Better?
