I made a policy decision to buy a now 15 year old Bentley a couple of years ago ; it’s got zero screens , it’s not being tracked by a satellite as all new cars are , because I’m pretty sure the next thing will be automated tickets for going 31 in a 30 and inadvertently crossing a bus lane . Tesla has been doing the same thing. They started doing audits and removing Auto-pilot if you did not pay. There was a big issue in the US last year over this. On New Toyotas, you get one year free of remote start then have to pay $8 per month. BMW in another country (don't remember which one) was starting a subscription for heated seats.

Lee, you are completely correct. The EV scene is nonsense. Not only does no country have the generating capacity to charge them, but their introduction is a clear step backwards and an infringement of personal liberty. They clearly will introduce a subscription model. I wonder if all the current advocates will one day wake up and realise that they have been totally ‘had’. EV’s are not the way forward.

If the system, whatever it might be, i.e. heated seats, "comfort" entry, headlights, whatever, is already on the car, they didn't put it on there for free meaning you have already paid for it by buying the car. Even if I never buy another new car, I WILL NOT buy a car with subscriptions to use a feature already installed. If everyone does that, this crap will stop.

Lee, if Porsche messed up in the first place and has given you a feature on your car, in my opinion they should leave that feature as is, yes let you know that you’ve been given something you shouldn’t have had but that’s not your fault. This is very poor customer relations on the dealership’s behalf (Porsche Nottingham) because you purchased the car from them and they are liable for the cock up. So in a nutshell I would throw the keys at them and go to another manufacturer through principal

My suggestion: Go back to the retailer from whom you bought the car. If the facility was on there - and you made use of it - and were not told it would come off - when you test drove it and agreed a price, then a facility has been stolen by Porsche or a Porsche dealer. I would send a letter before claim to them, advising that a facility has stopped working while under warranty and you either want it reinstated forthwith at no charge to you or will claim the cost of putting it back via another dealer via the small claims court. Edited to add that I know that a loyal dealer from whom I have bought many cars would take the hit (and likely get the marque to write it off, after all marginal cost is zero).

The silliest thing about this is that to enable it again as a goodwill gesture would have cost them nothing at all. So greedy of them not to do this especially as they lose now, due to some bad publicity. This kind of feature is common on much cheaper EVs, and indeed on keyless ICE cars as well. It's nothing special and nothing really clever these days.

I have used a Skoda (VW) Karoq 1.6 td SE-L for last Four years, Motability lease. Down payment was £795. Now it’s £2,000+ and only version they do is for the petrol engine. Fuel consumption mixed use is 53 mpg (UK gallon). Motorway, keeping ahead of the trucks at 56 to 60mph returns 68 to 72 mpg. Even with Diesel fuel at £1.79 a litre it’s cheaper to run than ev charging on a motorway service area. No doubt they’ll overcome that by increasing the tax on diesel.

just started the video, but sounds like the BMW subscription crap I heard about a couple of months ago from the states. 2016 I went around the dealers, and bought a new car. Financially stupid, but I had the money and wanted the experience of a brand new car. Dealer was shocked that I refused every single option that involved the internet. Why? I want my car to be dumb. I have unlimited internet on my phone, why pay for car offers "WiFi" (£xx a month) when my phone has unlimited data? It came with "full European maps" and Europe wide AA recovery. So I drove to Rotterdam with a 3 month old car. Sat Nav sucked, swapped to Google maps and found the destination. None of the "in 100 metres, make a U turn" shit I'd had on the way. I was on a motorway FFS and definitely heading in the right direction. Road signs, remember them? Another bugbear, go to a Ford dealer. They flipped the driving position but the radio and other controls are perfectly aligned for the passenger to see and use. Driver? Nope. Didn't even bother with a test drive. This became quite ranty, sorry. But fuck it, I'm in a pub, being pissed is expected.

Tesla put in a long range battery exchange in a shorter battery car. So the driver got a better range. Somehow Tesla found out and using their software REACHED OUT from the office and disabled the long range capacity. What I don’t like is a stranger being able to come into my personal vehicle and changing things without my permission. This never happens with a gas car. I’m not a fan of the climate change hoax. In a free society there are no mandates, only choices. In the US, **absolutely*……The power structure cannot sustain this over demand and they must know it! This control started with Windows PCs and to a lesser extent, MAC computers too. Updates and anti virus software to keep the user safe from viruses that in all probability were created to sell the AV software! I think you have been treated shamefully by Porche. So you're charged £1100 for the software 'update' and then they have the nerve to say it will cost around the same to add that feature THEY removed in the first place? 🤔 I have a Peugeot 3008 Hybrid and I cannot believe the way they have customers updating the maps and screen software. Once downloaded onto a suitable flash drive, you then insert the drive into the USB socket and proceed to update the car. All the time, around 1 hour 10 you have to have the engine running! So much for caring for the environment?? Why don't they have a removable module that can be plugged into a PC's USB drive then update the software in the comfort of your home as well as saving petrol or diesel? I'm afraid the answer is simple. We are all being played.
@glencartmell1487

There was no charge for the software update. He was provided with a Porsche Macan to use while the update was being performed (including, he claimed, a full tank of fuel although it’s normal to return a loan car with the same amount of fuel that it had when it was loaned to you). The £1,100 is to fully enable the Remote Access optional extra in the car which includes the car unlocking itself when the driver is in close proximity. I agree Porsche should have enabled this one feature as a gesture of goodwill in these circumstances but if Lee has been driving Porsche’s for 20 years he will know everything is extra!

That's not how it works in reality. Both the software and hardware has to be developed, refined and installed. In rality this probably costs say 3000 per unit but no one would pay this. They install the hardware as standard and charge evryone say 100 more. The money generate then subsidises those who choose to have it activated for 1100. This way the manufacture ensures sales and covers their costs, plus anyone activating it as an afterthought is good business. It is the same with the cost for different body colours, this bears no relation to the cost of the paint or the paint process. In reality, all those buying the cheap option are subsidising others, as some of the colours on offer often cost way more than the actual price asked for.

(I bought a 911 from Porsche in 2013 which I still own today, don’t go there for service anymore as the were charging me for washer top ups and sundries that were never received). Won’t mention the dealer (big one Cheshire) 😮 never been back. Local specialist gets (half) my money now for the same thing with better service.

I agree with you, regardless of whether a first world problem or not, it’s a matter of principle and its not as if it is a cheap car in the first place🤯. If Porsche messed up at the start, then it is their error and considering they have always wanted to come across as looking after their customers and offering the best level of service. I like you have found Porsche dealers very good in general. But this is not acceptable and lets be honest as it is a software program then it’s no skin off Porsches noses to just honour their mistake. Now they have a very disgruntled customer and maybe others who were interested now questioning whether to go with a brand that does this. Fair play to you for highlighting this. 👍

The problem you describe has nothing to do with EVs. All vehicles are packed with features that are software based and the same thing could happen with a petrol or diesel car of any make. However I think it would be usual to expect changes to be improvements and not have things removed. It could well be that you had this function by mistake and when the software was updated, this fact was overridden. If this was the case, it was probably a one in a million and fir a high end vehicle, I would have thought Porsche could just let you have it as a good customer.

That’s amazing not very good customer service Plus if they do what you said the could do and take away your indicators then your beautiful Porsche becomes a BMW 👍🤔🤔🤣🤣

That's horrendous, it's a invasion of privacy. They should not have access to anything they've already sold to the consumer. It's theft in my eyes. (Let's nip in the back door when he's not looking behaviour) Lee id delve into your consumer rights my friend.

Totally agree with you. Welcome to the future. You go to your car in the morning and can't open or start it. A computerised voice say you can't use it for a week because you offended someone last night on social media. (probably an EV zealot.)

It's so greedy by Porsche that the comfort opening is already embedded into the systems and car. No additional hardware is needed But for them to put a tick in the software for you to allow the comfort opening and charge you at £1k+ is ridiculous. Pure greedy!

I just bought a 2003 Toyota HiLux Workmate here in Australia. Will last the rest of my life. 5 speed manual transmission, open doors with a key, wind up windows etc etc, you get the idea. Basic engine that you can work on with lot's of space. These cars are getting hard to find. Mine only has 110k kms and was owned by a sraypainter/panel beater so has much better than factory paint and chassis. No, you cannot buy it. But I suggest maybe you should look for a lightly used one. Took me 2 years to find it. Could use it to cart furniture etc if needed.

Ha .....LOL at the EV protagonists out there who just don't know what is coming. Lee, it's this simple mate. What you have discovered is just the beginning. Stick with me on this will you because I have thought this through very carefully a few years ago and this is what our future will look like IMHO. All the signs and indications from all authorities back me up. Your right to drive your vehicle will be swiftly taken off you and EV's will facilitate this. It will start with the introduction of smart electronic signage. Your vehicle will be controlled by curb-side signalling which will initially control your vehicle's speed. For instance when you enter a town you won't be able to drive above the set legal limit until you exit the town and then it will be controlled by the next set speed limit. It won't make any difference how hard you press the accelerator pedal, nothing will happen until you are allowed to go faster. All EV's in the future will be able to drive themselves and follow the smart road signage which initially you will be able to override, just as you can today. However, your insurance cover will quickly flip to only covering you in driverless mode and if you want to be covered to drive yourself you will have to pay a massive extra premium. It won't be long before no insurance company will insure you to be in control unless you are on a private road or track event. Infact it will become the law. That's when you and everyone else will see no benefit in car ownership because there will be no enjoyment factor anymore. The authorities will provide the electronic driverless cabs which will be everywhere and an app on your mobile will be all you will need to access them for every journey you make which will be automatically billed to your account. If you want to be free to travel anywhere you want at will and at whatever speed and at any time of the day or night you will have to own a bicycle which is what the authorities are preparing for already with bicycle lanes everywhere. If you think you can get away with an electric bike....think again because already authorities are planning to provide these too if they havent already done so and they are also planning a licence plate for all private electric bikes. Your freedom to privately own your own vehicle and to privately travel wherever and whenever you want to is going to be taken from you. You will be monitored all of the time. EV's are the beginning to the end of your freedom to own and drive your own vehicle wherever you want to.

Bought a Merc, they removed my auto park feature over the air…I get a multiple new agreements sent via email (that I never read) that I have to agree with in order to use the remote app and car functions. It’s not just EV’s, all modern cars are going the same way, you get squeezed for every penny and they remove functions at their will.

Hiya Lee, I can assure you the dealers have no control over things like this. At this point in time the manufacturers have all the power because they have massive order banks that will take them months to build so don't want further orders unless they are at zero discount top dollar. While I haven't heard of a manufacturer taking something off a car after its on it is now common place that cars are having features and functions removed after you have ordered the car and before you take delivery. Its all wrong

Typical big company. They are basically legalised crooks and the average customer has almost no power to change anything. Great work Lee, exposing the reality.

Lee I agree with you 100%, it was their error Porsche have more money than you and have taken your money they should take it on the chin. I will give an example, my friends ordered a car on pcp and the wrong spec was delivered, the company said 'our mistake not yours enjoy'. As we have said before ev's are NOT the way forward, listening to you its like smart phones they can control us.

Incredible! shocking. Imagine the scams they can do, forcing you to get serviced by making warnings come up, and disabling your car, if you said something they don’t like, or don’t get the Covid jab etc! Madness

Lol exactly. A friend just told me his 2019 BMW 430 shuts off by a "service" program that requires a dealer visit to reset??? Now that's just BS, I told him. SMH Another friend had an $100k Audi Q7 with a 'defective' passenger door lock? It refused to start with a "malfunctioning" door lock??? It had to be towed in & the door lock replaced. $1000!?? Just more BS. My suggestion. Lease new. Buy old with an extended warranty.

Companies are doing this with movies and games too. If you download a movie or stream on Netflix or whatever, the companies can retract those movies or edit/remove scenes that are no longer politically correct etc. This is why I still buy DVDs. They can't mess with them through my phone line. The worst case of this I have experienced is Microsoft removing the option to save photos. That was one of the reasons I bought the xbox and after 4 months they took the option away completely. Imagine if I bought a bike, and after about 4 months aleigh just decided to take the seat back. That's basically what microsoft did with my xbox one.
