They went in the complete opposite of what we expected from BF. At least people are giving the older games a chance again. BF1, BF5 and BF3/4.

BF Core fanbase: we don’t want specialists. We don’t want hero shooters. Give us authentic uniformed soldier classes. DICE: no. What you really want is a Santa Claus skin.

Personally BF2042 is the biggest disappointment to me. We were all super excited for the futuristic setting, and promises that they learned from their mistakes in BFV. Then they blew their biggest and best opportunity to make a great game.

It’s actually insane to think that in 15 years, DICE went for the chill studio that made Bad Company to this. The greed actually went to their heads.

The biggest thing with this being an absolute “f u” to gamers is EVERY SINGLE BETA TESTER said do not release the game. It’s not even close to finished and is a broken Jank mess. They did anyways and then blamed the game failing because of halo infinite and other shit.

Kinda depressing how normalized the concept of the "roadmap" is now. I remember when Bethesda got a ton of shit for putting a horse armor micro-transaction in oblivion, compaired to those times we're really deep into a gaming dystopia already.

I took part in the closed playtesting for Battlefield 2042 and have worked in QA and systems development in the games industry for almost a decade now. Never in my life have I seen a game studio so unwilling to accept tester feedback on their product. DICE and EA refused to make any meaningful changes or to even finish their game before they released it. We told them during testing the game needed another full year of development just to finish implementing basic multiplayer features, but they confidently assured us that we were wrong, and the game was going to be a smash hit. So they released it anyways and it instantly failed. Now the game is virtually dead, they've indefinitely delayed all of their future content that people have already paid for, and are using that time to implement the same changes they told us we were wrong about during testing. DICE is the most arrogant and conceded studio I've ever had the displeasure of working with in my career. They truly deserve all the failure they continue to create. Editing just to clarify I've never worked for DICE or EA. I signed up for a closed playtest and got lucky by getting an invitation. I just also happen to work in the gaming industry and have experience in QA from my early days. I find it disgusting that almost all the feedback from that playtest was willfully ignored and this game was rushed out the door so obviously incomplete. Thousands of normal Battlefield players took part in that closed playtesting weekend and they all were saying the same things as me on the private discussion forum EA had set up for feedback.

I remember when someone made a joke to a dev talking about how little cover maps in 2042 had, and the dev responded by saying "But look at this older Battlefield map and how empty it is!" And to everyone's dismay, it was a map from Battlefield 2, a 19 year old game. And it wasn't even a vanilla map, it was a map from a mod for it that released almost a decade ago. When the only way to make your maps look good is to compare it to a 10 year old mod for a 19 year game, I mean, I don't feel I even have to finish that thought. It's just that absurd. Devs didn't end there. When Elden Ring launched, a former UI dev that worked on 2042 had the guts to complain about how terrible Elden Ring's UI was.

Just remember the lack of a score board was an intentional decision to combat "toxic gamer culture".

Gotta love the absolute gall of a company calling gamers "entitled" for wanting a functioning product.

It’s baffling how EA hasn’t figured out all they need to do is make the Battlefield 2042 Cookbook to save the game.

I find it hilarious how these massive AAA studios with so many employees fail to give out consistent and good live services, five months just for a freaking scoreboard? And one that’s still completely broken? That’s just circus material Specially when compared to other studios specifically Hello Games and No Man’s Sky which, yes it had a broken awful launch but it picked itself up and TO THIS DAY is still pumping out updates with new and fresh content alongside bug fixes and whatnot, last week they released Outlaws which in a nutshell let’s you play as a space pirate and participate in less than legal activities, but people found issues with some of the new features (myself included) and guess what? YESTERDAY they released a hot fix correcting most of the issues after player feedback, JUST WEEK after, and mind you, Hello games just have 26 employees. And I ask you this, how in gods name can this tiny indie studio give more consistent and meaty updates than most TRIPLE A studios? This is a joke my man I hate modern gaming.

For me, this game’s fate was sealed when it was revealed that most of the team who worked on previous Battlefield games had left the studio. The guys that are left don’t have the same experience and it shows

Rip to the battlefield golden age.

It’s sad to see Battlefield going on its 20th anniversary this year with the franchise being in such a bad state because of 2042 and a isolated fan base. RIP Battlefield 2002-2022

One of the most frustrating things about Halo Infinite was the radio silence from 343 from like December to mid April. They practically just popped by once or twice to say "uwu there's so much work to do and we are so helpless, please give us time". Even now, we got a roadmap that was promised MONTHS ago, and there's probably a month or 2 worth of content that they intend on dragging out for 6 months. And the battle royale they're planning got outsourced to another company anyway! All 343 does is make Halo games so why the hell can't they make a Halo game?? It's a sad time to be a veteran Halo fan.

Worst part about the failure of BF 2042 IMO is that they abandoned the support of Star Wars Battlefront 2 for it. A game that was on the verge of greatness.

BF1 is easily my favourite Battlefield. In a very selfish way I'm almost glad 2042 is a disaster because it means that I can still easily find full servers on Battlefield 1.

Back 4 Blood is in similar situation in my opinion, they advertised it as "from creators of L4D", but the fact is, it's from creators of Evolve, because L4D was 90%Valve and 10%TurtleRockStudios. People (including me) got scammed by preordering this trainwreck and now it has about 1/5 or less players playing right now that L4D2 has.

This was such a ride to any who were seriously following this game. It was like a roller coaster except it is really short, and it has like a 89 degree 4 kilometre uphill, and then it goes down a 45 degree slope. Except they didn’t even finish the roller coaster and halfway down you plummet to your death.

It literally just made me go back to battlefield 4 which has a dedicated playerbase and is still up to par with anything that could come out today

I think it's important to note, Battlefield 4 has more concurrent players than is listed. When Battlefield 4 came out, it was only on Origin. It only came to steam in 2020, so Steam is only tracking relatively newer players. That shows even more so how pathetic it is.

I remember all the people talking about how 2042 was going to be a "COD killer" leading up to its release. It's crazy how far the game fell from everyone's expectations.

EA literally puts no effort into games anymore. And DICE has been stripped of all its talent. Some of my favorite gaming moments have been with BF1 and BF4 so to see the new game in such an awful condition is heartbreaking.

One thing about BF 4, 1 and 5 is that they were released on steam quite recently. Im willing to bet that the majority of people playing on pc are on origin. Therefore those charts of the previous BF games only show a fraction of the actual pc playerbase. Unlike 2042 which launched day one on steam and probably has most of its players on steam.

When you tell your player base “if you don’t like it, don’t buy it or play it” then don’t be surprised when your next big release sucks… and nobody plays it 😂 don’t piss off your fans DICE

Thing is: There have been games that have fell off soon after/on release in the past, specifically No Man's Sky and Fallout 76; however, the teams behind those games have been working away at said games and they are both much better than they once were. Battlefield on the other hand... they are taking the easy route of, "let's make it free."

Halo Infinite definitely could be a really good game, they just need to realize that an as they advertised "live service" means you actually have to update it.

Bf4 which is like 10 years old is gonna beat bf2042 in active players. That should be a sign of what type of game battlefield players actually want.

I think AAA companies need to get the whole "a game a year" out of their heads, or even 2 years, our expectations of games now are higher, we want complexity, progression. These things take time, a lot of time, cyberpunk is now a fantastic game after all the fixed and that's been in the works for ages, I think they really have to be honest with us and themselves and say it is going to take a while to make these games fully fledged.

Battlefield 4 actually has most of its player base on Origin, it surely has a bigger player base than 2042. Hell, even BF1 and BFV have many players on Origin because Steam was added later on down the road. I'd suspect that 2042 actually has MOST of its players on Steam, while for example BF4, BF1 have most on Origin, and maybe BFV 50/50.

Despite all the wrong EA has admitted they have done on their part when directing DICE in development. EA still turned around and blamed us for the games failure. By that time I knew they were never even going to try to patch up what they've done. As a result I uninstalled the game right afterwards and will never buy a another Live Service Game from EA again.

Imo EAs most recent Battlefield success was BF1, I was ADDICTED to that game, played it almost daily for at least a year. I loved the gunplay in that game, the vehicle system, everything. It was a unique take for a battlefield game and it stood out among a crowd of basic ass modern or post-modern shooters. Going back in time and letting us toy around with old tech and just have a blast while sparking an interest in an incredibly important and tumultuous time in history

I still find it funny how people were speculating on which game would be better last year between Vanguard, 2042 and Infinite. And all 3 ended up being trash.

I'm a big Halo fan, I have almost 700 hours on MCC and have all 700 achievements. Like most people, I like Infinite's gameplay, but launching with barely any modes, insane desync, shitty customization, and no forge was such a blow to the game. Halo lives off community created content, and with Infinite we probably wont get any till the end of the year (or whenever Forge finally comes out) Edit: people asking about achievements, yes I have them all, 700 hours is a good chunk of time. I feel bad for my dad who got this for me. Don’t get me wrong I appreciate the gift and neither of us knew that it was gonna be trash because it was near launch day but the second it was done downloading I saw the horrendous state it was in. After 3 games I never picked it up again.

The worst part is that they charged over $100 dollars for it. Ok it may not be the worst part but it is still crazy they can rip people off like that.

The sad thing is that there was a lot of potential, and now it’s ruined. It doesn’t matter what they add from now or if they fix it entirely. They blew it and the series is likely dead now. I love that this issue isn’t being forgotten. As a huge fan of the series I definitely think it’s about time EA understands their actions and their neglect towards their consumers have consequences. It’s great to see the backlash and pushback from the fans of Madden, Fifa, Star Wars BF, and now Battlefield. HOLD EA ACCOUNTABLE.

This has been going on since Battlefield V, where when the players complained about that weird mechanical arm shit in the trailers, the devs said "if you don't like it, don't buy it", then nobody bought it. I still remember the connection Battlefield 4 had with the community, straight up inserting Battlefield Friends easter eggs and achievements, building maps with the community, taking feedback into consideration and adding updates like conquest objective zone highlights, deep interface customization, colorblind support, an overall good dev-community relationship. No wonder it was the best title util now.

Just give over all the software to modders, and they’ll get us the game we deserve in a minute.

This is a common problem for developers. Seems like a trend actually. Konami, EA. Even Nintendo do this thing where they target only the whales with addicting mechanics. I can see where they might be saving a lot of money in avoiding the extra work. The biggest problem with this is lack of vocalization and action by the fans. Until drastic measures are taken by the player base, then big developers have absolutely no reason to move on from current practices. I believe that they believe, if they're making money, then the game is inherently succeeding and nothing should change. If players could get whales to stop playing these games for at least long enough, then we might actually start seeing some fair content.

Battlefield 1 is one of the most beautiful and immersive FPS games ever created and i dont know what happened at DICE after BF 1's release but theyve just been shitting all over themselves after BF 1 came out. They need to get back to that level of passion for the next Battlefield game cause i feel like DICE has one more chance here to regain there playerbase or else theyre fucked for good.

Me and my friends were so hype for 2042 that we went back to battlefield 4 and we weren’t the only ones with this idea. During the last few months before the release date battlefield 4’s player count shot up with players making “2042 hype train” servers. The. Then game came out and we weren’t happy

The most tragic part is that someone, or some crew at DICE made this entire world and lore that still BEGS for a campaign: a post-apocalyptic world wracked by economic crises, climate disasters, satellites falling like God's middle fingers on Job, total social collapse, a migrant crisis even Jean Raspail would consider depressing, and the last battles between the two remaining superpowers of the planet slowly degenerating from hi-tech scuffles to flat-out nuclear annihilation for its last resources. How could anyone waste that potential so easily?

Makes me all the more grateful for how BF1 was. I know it wasn’t everyone’s thing, but the maps, the atmosphere, the music and sound and chaos of it all was incredible. There’s no excuse for not capturing that same magic.
