this gives straight up chills, rocket jumping an art with so much history so much understanding its mechanics and with people learning it for nearly 2 decades. Just looking at these masters performing extremely precious jumps one after another and still losing cause the other guy did it even better. Rocket jumping is hard. the $1,000 prize is not enough for this.

I can't overstate how little I agree with the ruling that crashing DQs you. It not only punishes the player that crashed for something they can't control but also robs the other player of any feeling of accomplishment in winning.

There's a couple reasons why this rule had to exist, one being that it's incredibly easy to fake a crash by just hitting alt f4, and so this rule was known ahead of time to the players (it also mattered a lot more for the qualifiers which involved everyone racing at the same time). It's also worth noting it's incredibly rare for tf2 to crash unless it's been open for a really really long time, so there was no precedent to expect this would be an issue. Me and all the other commentators agreed with the organisers that sticking to the rules was the most fair option at the time and vice ended up winning the match anyway so yeah :P

I usually don't comment under videos like these, but here I feel like I had to. The title of the video is misleading/disingenuous even if it's intended to be clickbait, there were a handful of bigger and more prestigious jump tournaments prior to this one. Examples would be : - Beginnings 5 - Beginnings 6 - Dreamhack Beyond The Limit 2021 and 2022 - Tempus cup Those tournaments had bigger prizepools, higher stakes and far more top jumpers involved. Calling this "the biggest rocket jump tournament in history" when the best 2 players aren't even playing is at the very least disingenuous and I feel like people should know this information. If you wanted to make a video covering one of the most exciting tournaments/players, you could make "history of beginnings 4" where minty nearly got a full sweep on all 6 maps.

As someone with a tangential interest in rocket jump it's strange this tournament completely flew under the radar for me, might be worth having your community advertise the dates more, think I caught a couple practise streams but I wasn't aware of stakes or the dates.

The commentator made a blanket statement that is largely untrue for the vast majority of players. Sure, some idiots games crash because of there owm fault, but that doesnt invalidate the other 99% of people who's fault it isnt. Think before you try and "correct" someone

I reckon the crashing rule should be left to both players in the encounter. Like... If you crash at the beginning, it kinda feels like a harsh and unnecesary punishment. Yes, it technically is your fault since it's not something that should happen, but then again, it kinda kills the whole joy of the match. So instead just... Contact both players as soon as you see a "Crash". Both of them can stop at that moment, and in these cases, you let things calm down for a minute, and then ask both players if they want to rematch or not. You could also add penalties in times, such as... Yeah, okay, you both agree to redo the match, but since you crashed halfway the match, you'll be penalized with X extra time on your round time. The added time depending on the average time to complete the match and how far into the match did the crash happen. You could also add penalty time for each failed section instead, or make a mix of both! But still... One of the players can disagree to rematch and it's an instant victory to the player that didn't crash. I just think it's too harsh of a rule. What worries me about letting the players decide is the community's possible backlash or hatred. The "Winner" should be able to choose wether they want to rematch or not and not be hated for their decission

Yikes, Rellort kinda deserves the win in that second clip, seems mappers / server hosts can't always decide where the actual finish zone should be sometimes. Look how early the finish condition is triggered on the first clip vs touching the control point, bogus. And seriously, can't be bothered to wait five minutes for Vice to reboot the game is downright shameful for such a niche category of competitive speed running. Crash twice in one round, yeah maybe disqualifications are in order. Stupid. Great jumping lads.

The rules have to be that way. Imagine someone has a bad start and pulls the plug on their internet and says "oh no i crashed sorry guys pretty please restart". You have to have such a strong rule to stop cringe players from abusing the rules
