Hey Tyler, you just touched on something that people may overlook. Everything you are pulling out of the water is helping the environment! People who fish especially in those areas should be thanking you. It’s not lost on me as a fisherman. Those large links are what holds the cars together in the older trains plus 2 pins! Dave

Hay Dud. The old timers used empty 55 gallon drumms tied together to make pontoon boat floating docks. They had to half fill the drum with water to make the dock float lower in the water. Over time, a drum/s would rust out, and they would untie it, let sink move the new one into place secure. Good as new again. 👈

Would you ever consider coming to Dodge County. Mayville and Theresa in particular. Rock river could prove fruitful. Mayville below the damn was the site for the first iron smelter in the state. Could prove good for iron slag. Theresa used to have a dammed area that formed a lake, then the damn was disassembled and the river went back to it's old course. Might be stuff left from that dam

OLD fashion wood stove top, right before the wood brace. With you hitting something too big to be hauled up, it might have been the rest of the stove. That Hamms Beer can may be worth a few dollars, since it is still in-tacked and not rusted through. Those notches on the gear are for 'Keepers', or 'Keys', they keep the gear from slipping on the shaft when the shaft is turning. That IS a Train Car Link, part of a 3 coupling link, for a Train Wagons well into the early 1900's. Before automatic braking system were on trains. Nice you also found the Pin for it, and your friend found a train car break. A unique anchor made from an axle from the looks of it. Love watching, you pull up some interesting things.

1300 lbs of scrap, Keep American Waterways Clean! Thanks Tyler, one throw at a time. As far as the trolling motor, periodically remove the prop to remove the fishing line. It cuts the motor seal then water gets in the motor and rusts.

@20:12. LINK/COUPLING Cast iron link used to join car couplers. It is part of a set of 2 couplers, 1 link and 1 pin. Couplers were used to connect cars to each other. Link and pin couplers were particulary dangerous because the brakeman or switchman would have to work between moving cars to join them up. If an inexperienced person didn't get their hands out of the way in time they could lose a finger or a hand and often did. Also, there were many fatal accidents when men were caught between two moving cars and crushed, 518 men were killed in 1888 alone. Used of the link and pin coupler was prohibited under the Railroad Safety Appliance Act which passed March 2, 1893 and went into effect in 1900. Though some railroads did switch to the safer Janey coupler (pat. 1873) before 1900.

The Hamms beer can is a real find. Maybe a local beer? It was produced before pull tabs - which weren't used until 1959. Until then people had to punch holes with a triangular "church key" or can opener. You can see the two holes on the top - one for drinking and one for letting in air.

Did you get those yellow metal chairs on your scrap run? Those are nice chairs and wish I could have one to sit on in summer. My hubby and I love your vids. We have gone magnet fishing, never found much. He lost his magnet twice, first time I posted if anyone with boat gets it they can have it, they got it out and put it beside the water and so we got it back. 2nd time he lost it completely, we know where it is but impossible to get.

Hey buddy, it looks like you should invest in some non-skid strips. If you're not familiar, think of strips of sandpaper with a sticky back, that adheres to wherever you stick em. You almost ate $hit a couple times today, and i would hate to see that. Good luck, and stay safe! PS, I'm sure you have life jackets on board, but you may want to consider wearing. Remember, with water temp at 40°, you loose strength and dexterity fast and most people can only survive 1 to 1 ½ hours. R, MKCS G USCG, Retired

Link and pin coupler. Edit to add pre early 1900's. Used exactly how you think. One end in one car insert pin, other end in next car insert pin. The system used today started in the early 1900.
