The Entire interior of the original Enterprise. This video shows progress on the 1:100 scale model and also demonstrates the massive size of the 1:25 scale model! It's the maddest project I've ever done and I'm loving every second of it!
Link to the video showing the ENORMOUS 1:25 scale dorsal section!

Love this project and love the progress - but I still do not buy the impulse engine room in the saucer section sitting RIGHT on top of the dorsal section. That always bugged me about the Joseph Franz blueprints, and makes even less sense now that I see it in 3D Talk about a choke point that could disable the ship with a single lucky shot!

The undercut on the 1:25 seems different to that on the 1:100 although I appreciate this may be due to one being an earlier build. Which version will you be going with for the final version?
@mrtrek2117
@mrtrek2117 13 күн бұрын
Thanks for the observation and input. It's likely now that I'll be going with the deeper undercut of the 1/100 scale.
@taichung465
@taichung465 14 күн бұрын
Fantastic work as always! I always wondered if the saucer undercut is an aesthetic design choice, or if it is an absolutely neccessary aspect of the saucer shape, ie. something to do with the warp field generation. Maybe even something mundane like weight reduction when it was found that the original design of a 2 deck outer edge saucer was too front-heavy. If you had a laser cutter and 3d printer setup, I can absolutely see you having a lucrative business selling 1/100 frames and superstructures of the Enterprise to serious hobbyists who can skin, paint and finish the models according to their respective skill levels.
@mrtrek2117
@mrtrek2117 13 күн бұрын
Thank you! In the real world the curvature is just cool factor, in the fiction world it is prob to do with warp envelopes and field generation ;-)

The cutouts on the 1/100 Saucer supports seem to be totally different than the 1/25 supports. The 1/25 seems to have 2 decks over the indentation and the 1/100 has 1. Is the 1/100 now definitive in your mind?
@mrtrek2117

I'm trying to get my head around this so my question is this; is the 100th scale model being built as a reference model for the 125th scale? I'm wondering why you would choose to build it twice? Amazing dedication sir!
@mrtrek2117
@mrtrek2117 13 күн бұрын
I'm building the 1:100 scale so I can get a clear view of how the interior will be and how the decks will be displayed. Any and all mistakes will be made and corrected on this smaller scale version so that when it comes to the massive model, it's literally just a case of up-scaling. Also it's more do-able to take the smaller version to conventions and such.

As seen in numerous cutaways, there is access clear across deck 7 although not the full "standard" deck height of others. You also portrayed this design previously. Am curious why you now have the hull arc so much more pronounced that it deletes this.
@mrtrek2117
@mrtrek2117 13 күн бұрын
Good observation and question. The reason for the deeper arc is that I found it is possible and a nice design element to have a single corridor giving access from both the inner part of the saucer at the level of deck 6 and 7 to the outer part. It also gives itself nicely to multi-level rec areas near the outer edge of the saucer. I'll definitely be showing this in detail several videos down the line! Thanks for the input!
