As someone born in 93 and not starting watching The Bill until 2004, I love watching these older episodes. They're the best. Thanks for uploading

The years 1988 - 1993 were really good. There were so many great characters and storylines.

At this point, Detective Inspector Francis Burnside made his mark....as a stand up gentleman, and a man who had his colleagues' back. Chris Ellison is awesome

I enjoy all these old episodes, before The Bill became a soap opera
I've been binge watching all the early episodes. You really get a sense that times were-a-changing as we moved into the 90s in Series 6. It must have been difficult for some officers to adjust. I bet some were saying "The job's f**ked" even back then.

Due to editing they didn't quite make it clear enough that Carver broke down before he'd had a drink, and revisited the car on the way back from the pub to move it.

I couldn't think who that was, but recognised him from somewhere. I never knew he was in The Bill. Thanks ;-) I love that he was the good Copper trying to help Carver.

You can tell Brownlow had it in for DS Roach, as he presumed that Roach was the one in trouble, despite being told in the earlier meeting that one of his DCs had failed a breath test.
@EnglishTMTB8 ай бұрын
To be fair, it's the obvious assumption given Ted's history... Albeit still true that Brownlow didn't like him.

Ironic that Carver would be singing a Who song from Quadrophenia... ;-)
@oldman43532 жыл бұрын
Actually that song that he was singing was Pinball Wizard from Tommy.

think jim carver is fully wrong arrested just b'cos his car had broken down
@jimclark62562 жыл бұрын
Why do these fools keep saying he had no intention of driving. How did the car get there? Craver acts like a little child. He was wrong but because he was a cop he thought he was above the law.

He broke down, then went to the pub which for some reason is edited out of this episode

An early foreshadowing of Carver's later descent into Alcoholism, and like Mr Clark has commented, he reacts to situations like a child, and he acts overly self centred and righteous, like a victim, without seeing the bigger picture. Perhaps this could be why he was never recommended for promotion while a member of C.I.D. Frank is the only person who sticks up for Jim, but instead of showing his appreciation Jim reacts in an irrational way, like here, with the bollard

Since when did Frank Burnside smoke? He might look the type but I don't remember him doing it before.

All Carver had to do was obey the officer. if I had been Frank he would be back in uniform. "He had no intention of driving the car". So how did it get from the pub to where it broke down".

Mrs Richards: " I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) " That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
