In episode 8 Sgt Penny reported DC Lines for a minor disciplinary offence, yet when being caught for drink drive he tries to unsuccessfully pull some strings to get let off; what a hypocrite.

If you go to a Wetherspoons pub, you can still manage such a feat. However, in even my regular pub; you would be hard pushed to buy two pints for under a tenner (£10)...!

What I don't understand is how he would blow 52 on one and a half pints (17 points over the limit of 35)... which makes his limit one pint of 4%(approx) bitter...

Penny was a secret drinker after having been shot. His wife went to see Cryer about how much he was secretly struggling and how concerned she was. The 1.5 pints wouldn't have caused him to blow 52 - but on top of the rest it probably would. Not that I watched a lot of this of course...

Hang on.Can someone please tell me how many pints he'd had? It couldn't have been more than two. Penny seems pretty merry, but not pissed! I was 15 in 1990 hahaha

Penny was a prat, but this episode I felt sorry for him. Not that I agree with drink driving, it was a setup and it was Peters who gave him no choice but to grass up Coles

I always felt sorry for Penny after he got shot but after watching the very early series before the shooting and finding out he hit his wife..no sympathy

I don't think Penny is racist as he works with black coppers and Asian coppers. It may of sounded he was abit racist when he said a Paki shop. But when a woman who was arrested for assault I think between series 6 or 8 she called Narika Datta a Paki and Sergeant Penny said that's enough

Can’t remember which politician proposed this but it was an interesting approach. You should be allowed to be drunk when sitting your driving test. If you pass, then you are permitted to drink & drive.

It was probably some old soak, that had all but pickled their own liver... and had perhaps lost their licence owing to a drink-driving conviction...! 🤔
