Like I said yesterday on Coles channel, makes me sick just to watch these also... Have had fam get scammed in FL after a hurricane... Not just the money, your site is DANGEROUS!!! In 91 we did a major overhaul of our grain system. Bought 2 used legs from a neighbor that they were upgrading, have the same SuperB dryer you have, got their over head bin and super structure etc,,, referbed it all ourselves... air floors in all the bins...We had a millwright neighbor literally a half mile down the road we hired to install it all. The dude did 110%, it increased our capacity 4 fold, we couldn't keep up with it... Rent it to a good friend neighbor to this day, still rocking it... so if you're wondering folks, 1974 SuperB batch dryer, still killing it... was sad to see Brian retire his... LOL...

Jury trial is set for later April 2024. The defendant requested the jury vs bench. Based on their response to the complaint, I suspect they are going to try and sell the jury that the Cornstars are just trying to get something for free. But, no one is dumb enough to believe that. I doubt the defendant wants this to drag out too long either because they are a small business and they're also paying their lawyer by the hour. If Cornstars do win a judgment, they still have to collect. Then if they do actually get some money in the bank, how are you going to fix that mess? First they need to determine why the feed system does not meet the specs; the welding can be fixed, but the foundation under the hopper is going to have to be chiseled out and start over.
@alanholck7995

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I suspect the contractor’s lawyers are going to use the videos of Cole filming when the bin site was being built & pushing the contractor to hurry up & finish. In hindsight it may have been better if took more time, even if it meant storing corn in shed for another year.

Daddy Corn-Star … there was a moment during the video where I thought I was able to read your mind … I think you were actually shaking a little bit. You were talking about the Bin Site and I got the idea that if you could start over you might have wished to be more involved from the beginning. We have all been there before, and in retrospect wished for more information earlier (your words). Well … “water under the bridge”. The big question is what lessons have been learned that will guarantee that working with contractors (any contractors) is a joy going forward? Making sure those lessons are learned and protect Corn-Star Farms going forward is the realm of wise old men like us. This is the important part and some of these lessons are not easy to discuss. Good luck!!!!

It's hard to imagine the costs associated with drying corn 7%. Used to have that same tester, but ours was branded Dole. Something we did was switch our augers over to shaft mounted 1:5 reducers specifically for Augers. It allowed us to run them full and then variable speed them to our leg that was always a problem.
@deadone99
@deadone99 7 ай бұрын
Many years ago I worked for a country elevator and that was rated at 5,000 bu. per hour and we had speed reducers on every auger. When the video shows the motor pulley on the auger with very little belt contact no wonder you keep burning off the belts. Shaft mounted gearbox's eliminate the huge size difference between the drive and driven pulleys. Also every dump pit included a slide gate in the bottom so that the augers would not have to start under load. In my opinion cost savings became the most important thing. Remember people will build what you want to make a sale.

If you're burning belts, then tighten them. For the bottleneck that pit auger is, how long would it take to pull the auger and check the flighting? Unlikely but the other possibility is you need larger pulleys or more belts.
@farming4g
@farming4g 7 ай бұрын
Was thinking that... A larger auger pulley to run a little slower or a wider pulley for additional belts or wider belt to handle the load. Wonder if it could be the unloading side of the auger isn't made correct?
@user-yr5ee9vm9e
@user-yr5ee9vm9e 7 ай бұрын
another thing you might can try is put baffles in the bottom about 1 to 2 feet above the auger to keep the wt of the corn off the auger, 4 pcs of round tubing, a pc of 3/8 flat sheet folded in center to a point this will keep weight off the auger at bottom releasing the corn slower into the vertical auger

I’ve Been thinking I same thing, and change pulley gearing
@farming4g
@farming4g 7 ай бұрын
@@jeremymullen5378I think pulley size would be the first to try... Either larger pulls to slow it down, or wider pulley for a bigger belt/additional belts. If go with more belts, might need a bigger motor. Might need a beefier auger after all said and done to handle the load, but a grain limiter sheet in the pot like the guy suggested would be an alternative

I'm no expert on Grain Bins and I'm not sure if others like the Larsons, Johnsons or Brian have similar problems, but at this point it may be necessary to spend the money on a top notch Bin construction company to fix all the issues, and try to recover those costs through the lawsuit. I know that may not seem practical, but these band aid fixes you have been doing are adding up with no end in sigh. I would also see if your banker can help in some way. Your ability to recoup the costs is in their best interest as well.

It would be interesting to know if a certified structural engineer signed off on the grain bin layout and if the contractor built it to spec. The only reason I mentioned this is my granddaughter is studying to become a structural engineer. Also I was wondering if their are any State or Federal regulations pertaining to grain storage facilities for grain farming. I’m thinking about the safety of such grain storage facilities. How about switching the belt drive out with a direct drive, where the motor is directly connected to the augershaft. Or eventually with gears and chains?. It will be better at overcoming small clogs than belts. Just make sure that there is an motor over current protection in place that cuts power in case of a big clog. Daddy CornStar...My suggestion would be to maybe discuss is a High Torque Direct drive VFD drive on your grain unloading leg. You wont burn off belts because you replace the belt shives with a gear box. The downsides would be you would need to start auger before you dump. Good effect would be I would start it with Prox switch I would trigger by semi driving by. Other plus would be I would use it to Hold the RUN Command ON after until truck/trailer is gone for timer (say 30 Minutes) set to over what you need to empty your hopper bottom.

@@HootMaRoot You have no clue how shit works. I've been on projects where there was several meetings with clients, lawyers, engineers, contractors and still things get screwed up. So quit acting like you have any insight. You don't know all the details, none of us do!

DC you should call the pit and auger the “money pit” because it’s costing money to get belts and parts and everything that goes into operating it

Take the hopper out. Build reg bin with air floor for your wet bin. Fill 3 rings dry and cone down, now use as regular wet bin. When done drying refill with dry and cool down. Gives you multi purpose bin with lil extra storage at the end of season - cost less than hopper bin also. Project for when you win lawsuit, and you will win 🙂

I think you should call the dump pit (and maybe the whole bin site) "The Pit of Despair." In reference to the movie "The Princess Bride." Hopefully you don't run into any R.O.U.S.'s! LOL

This bin site is so dangerous that you’d be smart to get the judge or arbitrator to have a scaffolding erected around it so nobody falls. Otherwise they should be liable for business impairment and elevate risk premiums (that your insurance company could assess) for the farm operations. Maybe the liability needs to start cascading for the contractor’s lawyer to find motivation to settle this case so repairs can get started???

Your situation reminds me of an article I read in magazine about a farmer who bought a brand new case threshing machine he brought it home. It didn’t work properly so he went back to the dealer he bought from they came out and they couldn’t figure out the problem so they wired Ji case personally he came out to the field couldn’t get it to separate the grain so he set fire to it had a brand new direct delivery 🚚 to the farm the title of the story was when a warranty is a warranty sorry for your troubles on your new bin that’s half done or has been good luck and be careful around wrong way ohh ps glad to here your soy beans ran exspecially well happy harvest and be safe good luck 🍀 to you corn stars

Sounds like JI Case didn't want his name(and thus... reputation) tarnished by a failed piece of equipment sitting in a field for "all the world" to see...so he fixed that problem...with a match! Wonder if any nearby crops got "toasted" in the process? Once was a time when a name...emblazoned on a piece of equipment or building...showed pride in ownership/connection...but we seem to be in times now where the past is prologue?!

Speak loudly about your bin site DC because no one will ever know that it’s not right if you don’t. We all watched it being built since conception and in a way it’s our bin site too and if you’re not happy with it neither are we. ❤

All this waste of money on the bin site just to water down my gas with alcohol to give my car less power and worst fuel mileage, go figure. Oh almost forgot and destroy my gasoline carburetors too.
