One of the best things about “The Birds” is the lack of an explanation. It just IS. These days, every movie plot has to have a contrived explanation. Far creepier with the reasons unknown. One of my all-time favorites.
@KRYPTOS_K5
@KRYPTOS_K5 10 ай бұрын
Sorry for my English. Your point is more or less true... The Zeit of the script and the general concepts of the personages admit the existence of some kind of explanation and simultaneously the protagonists assume the existence of some degree of mystery together with their radical ignorance about the stuff (say, "aggressive group of multi species birds"). Old and good films admit doubt and their casts deeply admit the verisimilitude of their roles and actions. Old films talk about reality -- they don't rely on the pseudo reality of artificial graphics and pre programmed games of life, they are not simulations in a simulation. For instance, that old American ornithologist (a lady) proclaims the supposed impossibility of such strain of birds (the seagulls) behavior but 40 minutes later she was totally pale and confined in a room of Tides Restaurant (If I remember well) in a typical scene extracted from the (theatrical) mute realist cinema of German and Russian silent films (Eisenstein, Lang films) and so she needs a deep explanation to understand not the birds but herself and her errors about what reality really is !! It is impressive because it shows us that people in some moment in time are themselves only because that same people believe the universe supposedly is a well known whole (including me, a bit part of that whole). This is a master piece of cinema located in the true Bodega Bay, 1962. Hollywood (Oscar) even in the glorious Past was an imbecile creation -- Hitchcock never received an Oscar as a director. Brasil (Yes... Brasil)

2 yrs late to the conversation, but I totally agree. Same thing with the 1960's The Haunting versus its remake in the 1990s. As for Hitchcock's movies like The Birds, Rear Window, North by Northwest, Vertigo, etc, something about them give a nostalgic feel about 1950's-1960's SF/NoCal, NYC, the Pacific Northwest. Although those movies are very mannered in a soundstage sort of way, I miss that in today's era of overly slick CGI & hip, no-mystique realism. Unless the property burned down or was bulldozed, I wonder why Michael didn't show where Mitch Brenner's house is? I doubt it was instead on Universal's backlot & must have really existed in Bodega Bay. As for the scenes in the small restaurant & of the town, they gave a friendly, relatable vibe to NoCal---psycho birds notwithstanding. lol

He liked to make cameos in his movies and other shows. I saw him get off a stage coach that had just arrived in Dodge City at the beginning of a “Gunsmoke” episode. Didn’t say a word, just got off the stage as a passenger and walked by the camera into town, not to be seen again in that episode.

You brought back fond memories for me. My late husband knew how much of a Hitchcock fan I was and still am so he took us to Bodega Bay in 2013. Funny how that road has not changed. The fog was incredible. Thank God we had a Hummer. Long story short, we wanted to retire there but couldn't afford $500k then and still couldn't so we bought a place in Gold Beach, OR which is very similar to Bodega as in wind and fog and a population of about 2500 people. No Hitchcock history in town but I have all of his great movies that I watch to this day and lots of pictures. Psycho being #1 and The Birds #2. Love your travels. Stop in for a meal next time you visit Gold Beach. LOL😊😊

Alfred Hitchcock was the commencement speaker at my college graduation from Santa Clara University in 1963. His message to us was to inject humor into our lives and future employment and he injected a lot of humor into his speech. His movie “The Birds” had just come out and he wondered how the University could confer the honorary degree of Doctor of Humanities on someone who said things like, “The Birds is coming” (to a theater near you). I got his autograph on my graduation program, consisting of his signature and a drawing of his face in profile, as it appeared on his television program “Alfred Hitchcock Presents.”

I like this movie, way far better than The Exorcist, which literally scared the hell out of me, and I do not want to ever see it again, especially because a scene depicted a oijua board which I am VERY DEATHLY SCARED OF! 😱 Speaking of oijua boards, I had a peculiarly scary dream @ a new neighbor who had just moved in nextdoor to me borrowing one of those freaky things from some close relative of theirs. In this dream, when these new "weirdo" neighbors leaned the board up against their door, it just all of a sudden slammed against the ground in the hallway and split perfectly into two after I stepped out my door, followed by light grey smoke eerily smouldering from the broken pieces as I stood just frozen in a trance-like state in fear

It is true. They made a movie about it. Tried to ruin her career. I think Sienna Miller played her & Toby Jones played Hitch. Btw, the school house is haunted 👻 saw it on that old show Sightings!

Yes yr right I read that Hitchcock was obsessed with Tipi too, he had a hidden room made somewhere apparently where he used to force Tipi to meet him, poor girl !! She was not interested at all !! Today that would be called sexual harrasment..how awful !

Great video. There are other ones that cover the filming locations of the Birds, but yours is by far the best. None of the other ones showed where the dock was and the fawcett farm. When I was a kid ,we on a family vacation to Bodega Bay a few months after production wrapped. We ate in the original Tides restaurant. They had photographs and autographs from the film. And the staff was happy to talk about it. We saw all the locations, including the schoolhouse. I still remember a lot from it. Went back a couple of more times after that. One of my favorite places. The cast and crew actually ate there as well.

I am over 70 and my wife is a hair behind me. Certainly remember the birds! Just wanted you to know we appreciate the work that goes into your videos to give them fluidity. Have been watching for a number of years but have never commented before. Our belief systems no doubt are polarized, but none the less you do a very good job of editing and we continue to enjoy most of your videos. We avoid the odd one by choice... Your determination to continue on with quality and interesting Hollywood or other wise, vignettes can only bolster an increased audience as is obvious. Keep it interesting! It can only get better! Big bear hug guys ❤ I visited Bodega Bay in 2018. Took pics outside school house that is now converted into private residence. This is so nostalgic. Did you guys film on location at the 1970's The Fog? And filming locations of Duel would be way cool. You guys have the life. I know it ain't easy, but it better than being a typical office clog.

I have been watching your videos today and absolutely love your work. I was 9 years old when this movie came out and for me it scared the living daylights out of me and made me afraid of birds for a very long time. As I got older I fell in love with Alfred Hitchcock's movies and even found a magazine published about his stories and I still have the magazines. Thank-you for taking me along for your adventures and me going down memory lane. I am a horror movie junkie. Much love to you and Jessica.

Been trying for hours to piece together The Birds old locations & here you've done it perfectly! Thank you for doing the work! I love the "lay overs" & "insertions". Sad how such a pretty town & surrounding landscape was lost to fire and what was replaced less than aesthetic :( They call that "progress", I call it "ruination". BTW, that shot with the flock of Birds appearing was a million $ one! lol - what are the odds? Thanks again for sharing this!
