Oh Jibid , I have greatly missed hearing your lovely voice and was so excited to see a new work of art from you! The concept of your journal can only come from a true artist - what a masterpiece! I reckon you are the only person out there that can create a journal about something slightly dark yet it radiates joy, admiration, and I love it! Much love my dear friend and hope all is well :)

Jibid, you have shown the light in the dark/scary Black Forest and have made it wondrous and magical. It's as if we are taking a stroll through the forest with you and you are talking us through it, to help us see for ourselves how magical it can be. I believe its your soft spoken voice that keeps us walking through the scary forest! The Journal is just magical! I love it.

As a kid I loved being in the woods, the moss, the mushrooms and ferns. Loved your fern print. (If you were talking about Hansel and Gretel, the poor witch was being vandalized, they were eating her home, she's the victim.) lol

Your books are so incredibly gorgeous, I can watch your videos again and again. You have such a soothing voice and presence and I love your sense of humor. I was watching this one for the umpteenth time and would like to tell you about the brothers Grimm. (Ok, I'll admit it, as a folklorist this has been niggling at me so I just can't help myself. Sorry). All of "their" fairytales were, in fact, collected. That's what "Grimms fairytales" are: A collection of stories written down from oral history. More or less. The Grimms did however edit them extensively according to what they believed was "proper" and a main source for the stories was their housekeeper, who may have also cleaned them up quite a bit for the delicate gents' ears. Again, love your work :)

Your journals are always so lovely and I love the themes/sentiments. Here in NY I live by a pine forest area - my backyard really. I love walking in there - it looks thick and foreboding on the edges but inside it's a magic place. There are many trails made by deer and other animals and it is quiet - but its special quiet - muffled even - but the cry of birds sounds amazing. It's not the Black Forest - which is a thing of my minds great magic - but it is a very special place full of imaginings just as vast. Thank you for bringing this to my mind as I watched and listened to your beautiful flip.

This is an incredibly beautiful book! I love that it is a darkly themed book yet not entirely dark throughout. Thank you so much for sharing the book! And the research you’ve done for the story of the theme and really searched for images. It’s got such a dark ominous feel yet there are sweet images at times too, princess, toadstools, and the gingerbread house. Extremely well done!

Ah, Jibid, I’m just rewatching your videos again. Im particularly drawn to the Black Forest journals. They call to me. Perhaps being enticed to step into a mysterious world, you may never find your way out of. A place so inundated with botanical life...yet not even a bird dares to make a peep. A hidden world that is so silent, even the sound of your own footsteps are swallowed up by the thick forest floor. You wonder if the forest itself is asleep or is it an empty memory forever frozen in time. A place that is so heavy with loneliness that even to those who fear them, the sight of a spider would be a welcome visitor. Even when skirting the edge, with the safety of a sun lit trail in plain sight...there seems always to be an ominous presence looming ...waiting....daring you to come a bit closer. Such a peculiar thing, the dark forests, I’m a field biologist. I’ve spent years crouched on the forest floor in silent observation. Forests are a thing of an almost unbearable beauty. There is never a shortage of life...an endless supply of wonder!! It seems so strange that there are some that are so hauntingly sad....yet those are the ones that mesmerize me the most. Perhaps one day, I’ll have the courage to step beyond the safety of sun. Until then, I’ll explore vicariously through your journals. Thank you. PS: at 14:26, you say the type of paper the crinkly envelopes are, but it crinkles over your voice and I can’t hear. Can you please mention what it is again?

Thanks so much Natalie, I really enjoyed reading your experience and observations. You must tell me more about being a field biologist, when you are in the mood one day. Feel free to email woolymum@yahoo.co.uk. the paper you asked about, I don't think I do actually say in the video, but looking at it I believe it is brown kitchen paper or kitchen parchment/baking paper, just scrunched up. Hugs, j

Hi jibid! Great detailed work, as always. I am absolutely inspired every time you upload. The bear carrying off the maiden may be a take on the Fairie Tale 'The Beauty and the Beast', where the Beast who is usually depicted as Leonine in nature, may also be shown rather as Ursine (?). Just my two cents. I also liked the beads at the bottom of the page at 21:32. They look like little toadstools shooting from the earthy brown page tones.

Jibid Neary I had to comment again, you've always been so generous with sharing your ideas with us. I have one more, well, maybe two. Perhaps little capped/cupped (?) buttons could be used for the shroom heads and then glued within are frilly eyelash trim tips to mimic the roughness of the underside of the mushroom cap. Then more faded green eyelash trim on the page outline for grass.

I just love love hearing your stories and seeing what you’ve come up with. You’re so clever!!! How can I get one from you???? I’ve written before. I can only imagine the Queue of those waiting for the same! But also you must record your story so I may hear it as well. That’s part of it! If you have children they must have loved story time with their mum!!!! Would it help me if I pulled some sympathy strings!?! My birthday is is twelve days and a week after is our 45th wedding anniversary. Really tho you are such a grand artist anyway you look at it all! I’m trying to give it a go myself. My daughter in law loves Jane Austin. So for her birthday I want to do her a journal. Her favorite book is pride and prejudice. I want it junky and full but mostly fun. I’m trying now to collect some fun stuff and learn more about her as well. I got the idea after I found you over a year ago on you tube! Her birthday is oct. wish me luck! I’m no where as clever as you so I hope while I research I find some interesting stuff. It’s the stuff that makes them fun! Thanks for listening. Hope to hear from you!!!! Thanks, Gail

Hi Jibid. I just subscribed to your channel. This journal is breathtaking! I am so glad to have found your channel. I love the bear page, although bears are my recurring nightmare. Have you heard of the children’s book called The Bear That Heard Crying? It’s based on a true story from someone’s uncovered family genealogy of a 3-year-old girl who wandered into the woods in the 1700s and was mothered by a bear for several days. It’s amazing. Anyway, I love your work. It’s fantastic.

@jibidneary2212
@jibidneary2212 6 жыл бұрын
Marriette Charlton hi marriette, thankyou so much, as you know, natural dyeing is never an exact science, especially eco dyeing, so many variables! If your issue is too strong images, I guess dont leave them in so long, and the types of leaves and how much natural colour and tannins they exude of course will make a difference. Also, not all of these are eco dyed, some are actually plant prints and transfers using inks at my desk. Sometimes I go over my ecodyed cloth again, to give a more layered effect over softer defined areas. It's all about experimentation! Wishing you happy crafting days, j x

Victoria Fortunato Dear Victoria, thankyou for your comment. My journal is not ABOUT the Black Forest, but it is inspired by the dark side of EVERY forest, as I tried to explain. The Romans named it Silva Negra because it was darker and more intimidating than the forests they were accustomed to. My journal is to show this darkness is possible anywhere. I believe Every forest is beautiful, and can also be scary. I chose the name Black Forest simply because black = dark and mysterious, and because of the connection to the Brothers Grimm, who wrote many dark tales in this region, and as you can see in the journal, my inspiration has come from both the Brothers and from lots of other folk tales, especially eastern European and Soviet folk lore. I hope you can enjoy the journal despite this, sending love, jibid x
