Brutal, "realistic" but messed up. I lost my care for Clara but I still love the story. She will make a great villain one day. Definitively not a simple character. I detect some khaleesi vibes from her.

Another reason to love Clara, the prince and their retinues. These are the actual nobility. Noble in action rather than title. Clara terrifies the nobility because she is willing to hold them responsable to the duties they have long forgotten. And her reputation is now a weapon she has no problem using as seen with the pirates. They did not question that she would execute the children if they didn't talk. The reason things went well with Uriel Hoaks was that he treated Clara as an equal and not with fear. Once he decided that she was competent and began to openly negotiate with her he went on her nice list. All the nobs at the "party" only saw Clara as a living landmine terrified of getting too close or she might go off and exterminate their houses. Thus demonstrating that they don't know their responsibilities to their people. Wyatt's proximity to Clara and Cynthia at the "party" has probably marked him as another weapon in Bloody Clara's arsenal. The mental image of the three of them standing there watching the tipsy honeytrap fall in front of them and not even twitch to do anything about it would feed right into their heartless reputation. If they knew nothing of Wyatt before, he's now seen as a bird of a feather with them and his headshot in the duel should make them just as nervous to interact with him as with Clara and Cynthia.

Just let that sink in for a moment, Clara has the authority to effectively order anyone's death by reason of the fact that she is a Princess of House Astor and Wyatt is the only person other than her older brother who can stop her, a man who was until recently a commoner, that is how much the Prince trusts Wyatt that he orders him to protect his younger sister from herself

The filmmakers won't have it easy though. They would have to stay true to the story and raise the bar with their production and the bar is quite high already. But it would be great to see the Black Ship on the screen!

I think there are too many things that they would have a hard time getting past the people that control what can and cannot be shown, the death of Wyatt's childhood friends, the brutal killings by 13 year old Cynthia, you can put those in a book and it adds to the background but putting them on film or a series is much harder to achieve, maybe an animated series, but these are already so long as an audio book you'd have to chop a lot out for a series

Yup flashback, I suspect we are getting that here before the fate of the Pirates and the Pirate kids are decided, don't forget that Wyatt wants to kill them all except the very youngest, because they were already killers, and it appeared that Clara didn't, I think there will be talks or even arguments between the two as to the fate of the Pirate children and I think we got this chapter to show just how brutal Clara has been in the past

They didn't, but in a society that still acts like "noble blood" means anything, anyone with the same blood is guilty regardless of actual physical involvement.

This is a very typical response throughout all of human history. The reason to go that scorched earth is not revenge or justice. It is an object lesson. As Voltaire said "Pour encourager."

I lost all respect for Clara because of that. She's no different from the evil nobles that allowed the virus to grow.
