I completely agree. I’ve been a lot more specific with what I want even if that means more research before reading anything. But so far, it’s been working since my last read was practically a perfect book in my eyes. Like 6 out of 5 stars. It also made my favorite books list (which only has four or so books on there to give you an idea).

@@thewannabegamer9 oh really, that's so great! Yes I'm exactly the same regarding the research😄 do you mind if I ask what your last read was? I am also the same way with my favourites list, which only consists of two books, so I'm very curious 😁

@@Amber-Jasmin_LeFay Well I wish you luck in finding some amazing books this year! I hope we both have an incredible year with incredible books! I just read Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson. I didn’t put it in my previous comment because I know that everyone’s requirements for a good book are different. But gosh it was so good! I really recommend you go in with as little knowledge as possible… so I won’t say much. 😂 It had some incredible themes and some really fun characters and worlds. And some sweet romance to make your heart flutter. I guess the biggest thing to know is that it’s a standalone in Sanderson’s overall reading universe so there some references that I didn’t understand. But as they don’t pertain to this story, it easy to put that info to the side. But man, because of everything that book has to offer, I can’t see myself ever disliking it or not wanting to read it in the future. It just kind of spoke to my soul. And I know it won’t be the same for everyone but hopefully it can become just a little bit more popular (I need more fanart 😂)

mini tip: to get arcs if you find a rep from the publisher that is publishing the book u can reach out and let them know that your interested in a book & want to read it to talk about it on your channel and most of the time they will send you available arcs!!! this is coming from a bookseller lol

I'm looking forward for more "Forgot The Plot" videos this year. Those were SO much fun AND helpful. There are books that I have absolutely no intention to read, either I grew out of them or the authors are kinda problematic. But they're so popular that I just "want to be in on the joke", epecially when a friend of mine is a fan. Also, because I don't have to bare with the long descriptions and unhinged smut, it makes the story much more pleasant 😅 I often listen to those videos before going to sleep as I find them both fun and comforting

I’m so excited to hear what you thought of Ace of Shades!! That trilogy, while I didn’t love it, is one of the most fascinating books in terms of how much I thought about it long after I finished it. Mainly, I thought it suffered from the author having this expanded fantasy world that just felt… overwhelming? So overwhelming and big and complicated that it just didn’t feel real to me. I’ve never considered making videos before but the Ace of Shades book series might just force me to do it because I’ve never had a book that I didn’t love but wanted to love so badly before!

the spear cuts through water is my current read and it has been for 20 days because i keep reading other things. im glad you explained the writing style because honestly its so hard for me to articulate it. i liked that were were no chapters, it made it so unique but it made me struggle on where to leave off as when i start a chapter i have to finish it no matter what. i need that dopamine boost lol! i’m 70% in and i do love it so far, maybe i would love it more if i read atleast 50 pages everyday? idk. i think it may be one i’ll have to come back to and re-read. i have never read a book like it though!! it’s so cool

I feel so validated, because I dnf'd Faebound at the exact same point lol. I was definitely expecting more, because a lot of people said the author's previous work, The Final Strife, is really good? I agree with everything you said about Faebound in the video and will add that I thought the characters read much younger than they were suppose to be. In the book, they're late 20's to mid 30's, but to me they sounded early 20's. I didn't really buy into anyone's feelings or motivations for anything either.

I also started my year off with Starling House. It stayed on my mind for like two days. Did a book trade with my bff for A Studying in Drowning.

I have some of these on my GR TBR, but I'll have to prioritize my physical TBR. I've only read The Spear Cuts Through Water. I described it to my friend as "adult Avatar the Last Airbender" but also a story within a story. I'm reading Skin of the Deep right now, which is a Mami Wata (African water deity/mermaid) story, which I'm excited for except I've been too busy😂.

Your lists of books are so intimidating! I've read three (3) books in January, and it wasn't even the worst month 😂 Logically, I understand that it all comes down to how much leisure time I have and can dedicate to reading, but then I see somebody having finished twenty books, and it's like, wow.

I’ve had such a bad week at work and currently sick so seeing your video has honestly brighten my day 😊 Also, I haven’t read a lot of gothic books because I sometimes get worried if it’ll be too scary. How would you rate Starling House, An Education in Malice, Study in Drowning, and Witchwood knot in terms of scariness/creepiness?

hope you feel better soon :') and i didnt think any of them were scary but study in drowning deals a lot with SA so it was upsetting in that sense!!

once again, amazing video. literally get all my book recs from you. if you are taking any book recs though, i met this author last year after reading her novel for class called “Once Upon a River” by Bonnie Jo Campbell. She’s an incredible author and this story is filled with so much it was insane to actually be able to pick her brain after. it is a rather dark read with some definite trigger warnings, but it really is such a daunting and beautiful story and i would really like to see your take on it, or even to see if it’s your type of vibe. it’s not a super popular novel, but i would just love to know what you think. anyways, an incredible video once again!!! i look forward to every upload!

I read 8 books in january, all lovely books. some new, some rereads. loooved Divine Rivals and Ruthles Vows, Four seasons in Japan ( so beautiful!) One dark Window and its sequel. loved rereading Piranesi and Spinning Silver. finsihed listening to Swordheart which was hilarious but kind of repetitive. Ive just started my own booktube channel, its so fun! loved rerading Emily Wildes encyclopedia of Fairies and enyoying the sequel now, which I got for my birthday. Going to make a new video today with the books I got for my birthday :) :)

Have u read, “The Master And The Margarita”? I don’t know anyone that has liked it but the reviews are excellent and it has been on my list. I keep reading other books as I know it is a rather heavy plot. They are making the movie so I want to read it.

Ok my small recommendation for this month, Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands, I read the first( Emily Wilde’s encyclopedia of Faeries) as per Cari’s recommendation and LOVED it, this second book was a great fun as well, I didn’t loved it as much as the first, but is definitely a good read, it’s pretty much a modern faerie tale, not as much as a romance fantasy as it was described. Please let me know if you read it and if you liked it.

I read one dull book, and part of another one in January. I finished Stephen King's 'Firestarter', and I started Stephen King/ Richard Bachman's 'Rage', and I'll finish it soon. Rage being a banned book makes me reading it all the cooler.
