i'd recommend watching I Am Clancy to catch up on the story. in short, the ending was showing that the guy dancing in the music video wasn't actually tyler, it was a dead body being controlled remotely in order to start a rebellion...yeah

The album is a continuation of their 10 year-ish lore, that basically began as a big metaphor for Tylers (singer) depression with their album blurryface (blurryface is a character), and later on became an entire story representing that metaphor called Dema (the city isn't as much blurryface, but the main bishop out of the nine that rule the city)(this is in their album Trench, since Dema is located in Trench). This album is about a citizen of Dema named Clancy that gained a power only the bishops that rule Dema used to have(possession of the dead), in order to take Dema down. So long story short, It's basically an entire fucking TV show.

Definitely hope you do more of them! One tip is I'd spell out "twenty one pilots" everywhere - all their fans will always spell it out rather than writing 21 They put a video out about 3 weeks ago that gives a perfect rundown of the story and a lot more of the video and some lyrics would make more sense after watching- quick 4 minute video called "I Am Clancy"

There's a huge lore behind the last four albums and the storyline ends on the new one (released in May). Their previous video explained a lot (I am Clancy). Also there are more music videos. You could do a longer version to those who are interested to know? Just an idea.

so the beginning of this song calls back to a track on trench called bandito and it was very critically acclaimed on what is the fan-favorite of their discography as being a "vast soundscape". it being my favorite song, i can't help but agree.

They just elevate what would be bland pop into such wonderful soundscapes with catchy hooks and pounding bass. I love this single as much as i loved their sound on the album trench

So the video is a part of the story they being telling us for some years, in the beggining they say "welcome back to trench" making a reference that they are turning back to some of the things they were living in other eras and Tyler is singing a part from "Bandito" song. Also they are trying to make a rebelion with the people from Dema (wich is the place where they are in the gym and that they talk some things about it in Trench and also in Scaled and Icy). But yeah is a long story, you can watch "I am Clancy" in their profile, is a resume o everything

Really enjoyed your reaction, not often we get technical and production breakdowns of these guys. As a musical “dabbler “ I am always impressed by their musical and production talents. Like you say, they have so many elements and variations they really keep me engaged. Please do more, hard to recommend what as you mentioned you know them already, but I’d be fine watching you do technical breakdowns of songs that you already know.

This is a good introductory song for Soundgarden. They were one of the staples of 90’s grunge and this one has the most radio play by far. If you want a better example of Chris Cornell’s vocal range however, their song Outshined is a good place to start!

If you've only listened to TOP vs watching the videos, definitely check these out (in order!), either on your own or in reactions. There's a ton of symbolism around the cyclical nature of depression, how your friends and support system fit in, and where Tyler and Josh are going with the next album! -Chlorine (watch only if you're unfamiliar with Ned) -Heavydirtysoul -Jumpsuit -Nico and the Niners -Levitate -Bandito (optional lyric video, but the lyrics are repeated at the beginning of Overcompensate) -Saturday -The Outside -I Am Clancy (summarizes the lore and leads into Overcompensate)

i'm gonna give you the least useful and most tangential fun fact possible: the body who is unmasked at the end of the video is saylor rigsby, son former/intermittent bandmate of josh dun (colin rigdsby) from back in 2009/2010. colin now does a lot of tattoos for the clique, being often advertised on josh's insta around 2021. i have 2 pieces from him and it's kind of a thing if you're in columbus for a show to get one done. can't wait to hear your tøp mashup!

This song is amazing! This last album will be the conclusion to the lore that started years and albums ago. You need to watch "I am Clancy" (whether you react or not) which came out just before this song that explains it all.
