Yes exactly. Hughie got a lot of unwarranted shit, both in the show and in reactions. He's been fighting an uphill battle his entire life (we saw that he mentioned bullies in his childhood) and just when he thought he was making a difference, he finds out it had been for nothing. He has been under Vought's thumb the entire time and working for a Supe which would be devastating by itself but then Homelander used him to get to Annie. How could that not cause anyone to feel useless and desire some form of change or power? I kind of found it ridiculous that he was basically seen as the "bad guy" this season because he wanted to make a difference and save the girl he loves from danger. Which, if we recall, she kind of put herself in when becoming co-captain, Hughie even said how bad of an idea it was. But I guess people chose to forget that part.

Which is very in character for Hughie, he has been noted to be a bit immature, partially due to his emotionally stunted upbringing. This is a natural evolution considering his helplessness and immaturity, especially after losing a lot of faith in himself after realizing he has spent more than year doing nothing but helping Vought, the company he hates. He trusted the good nature the Boys valued him for and it resulted in nothing. He then goes to the only thing he has seen work, Butcher's way, without the nuance that him keeping Butcher in check is part of why they worked as a cohesive unit rather than fall apart from their worst traits becoming unhibited, as seen with the Boys parting ways here. Tldr; it is frustratingly logical that Hughie would run into these issues after the inciting incidents this season

@@relic5752 I didn't even consider how Hughie's temperament was important to the group, but you're totally right. He was kinda the glue that held Butcher in line. Now that he's lost his better judgement, there really isn't anything to keep the group as a functional squad. That's an insanely good analysis, kudos to you for that one.

He wouldn’t do anything and let people destroy him physically and mentally which made him the person he his now. Now that he has that power he’s not gonna let this bully win. It’s simple

My problem is that in the first season his character didn't have that issue. It was a refreshing quality. He doesn't get emasculated because starlight is stronger. I hope that clears it up.

@@pinklefoo because in the past,he never really had to stand up for himself,like he was bullied by butcher a lot in the past seasons,when homelander confronted hughie and when hughie finally stood up to him, homelander was surprised,and then Annie threatened to leave the 7 if he killed hughie,that was the moment hughie found out what he's worth,like it's pretty understandable and I'm not against hughie in any way because it I was in his place,I would be exactly the same.Also,hughie has been through so much more shit as compared to starlight in the 3 seasons,so I really didn't like when starlight said"this is you",like she's not seeing it from his perspective,and that's why I don't agree with people who side with starlight on this one,like starlight literally wanted a weapon that could kill my boy Homelander for good and when that weapon turned out to be soldier boy,she was like hell no,I was like "tf!!",and also when hughie told her not to take the position of co captain of the seven she declined and then immediately regretted it and then she was mad at hughie for telling her to wait it out until they get the weapon,and I was like "are you fucking serious?!!",so yeah I really didn't like the character arc of starlight this season.

I personally think that it doesn't take anything away, Hughie's whole story has been searching for strength and to feel useful, every single person around him is stronger than he is, so it makes sense
