I don’t know how much of a perfectionist Edwina is. Before the very first ball in ep1 Kate said remember what you want in a partner. She said she wanted a handsome Prince or a Duke. Kate responded to that statement saying find someone that speaks to your heart not a title. Then at the ball she saw Anthony and liked him because he’s a handsome viscount. But Kate told her that he does not want love in a marriage. Then he basically came up with a plan to distract Kate with Mr. Dorset so Kate reminded Edwina that Anthony is not honest. At the poetry reading Anthony said that the didn’t write the poem and can’t provide passion(love) in a marriage. When Kate said to Edwina now you know that he can’t give you the love you deserve, but Edwina was like well he was honest about the poetry so I want him byeeeeeee. In ep 2&3 Edwina got to see the agitated and chaotic behavior of Anthony but she still said in Ep 4 that anthony is even tempered. This is proof that no matter how bumpy the road is Edwina wants to be a viscountess.

@@Mrsamj1989[SPOILERS]- don't read if you havent watched till the end! Wow that's a very interesting take! I didn't even think about that. Yet, despite all of this, Edwina was acting all surprised at the day of the wedding when Anthony told her he wants her because they both know their roles. When she asked if he loves her he answered 'I understand you, I sympathize with you' she was visibly disappointed with the answer saying she deserves better. I mean that just gave the impression that she is either delusional when his intentions were very clear from the beginning, or maybe she thought he could fall for her in the process. But again, why was she so surprised by his answer? That moment raised a lot of question marks for me personally. Overall I do think she wanted to marry a man of high status because of the way she was raised. If you were raised to be the 'perfect' wife with so many skills just to impress suitors you would probably want to be with someone who can offer you a lot in return. We see that Edwina is very hard on herself and goes 'I should have been better I should have known more of his interests'. She can't fully be herself in front of him because of this mindset. I might be wrong though it's just my impression🤷🏻‍♀️

@@vivi5520 Spoilers ‼️ Yeah I think the writers wrote her in one way for the first 4 episodes and another way for the rest of the episodes because in ep 5 suddenly she was talking about love. I mean from Anthony’s public proposal she may have thought oh he must love me and forgot what Anthony and Kate said from the beginning (loveless marriage!!). Yes she was raised to be perfect to impress suitors and so is every lady of the ton. but in ep 5 lady Mary says she raised her daughters to follow their hearts over affluence. Also in ep 7 Edwina says whether all the romantic novels about true love that Kate used to read to her are all lies. Lady Mary set an example for her daughters to marry for love by marrying a widowed clerk. Kate trained herself and Edwina to present themselves to suitors ( music, dancing and learning languages as such) but also Kate always advised Edwina to find true love and not settle for less. The requirement for Edwina’s inheritance was to find a high society English guy. Pretty much all guys attending the balls fulfill that requirement. But sheee wanted the Viscount 😅 The writers wanted to make Edwina the bigger person and stomp on Kate basically. Because in the end Edwina still failed to understand what Kate went through and why she did what she did.

Its crazy how far Lady Featherington is willing to go! But at the same time you can tell how hard to make sure her kids will have a good life. It seems that Edwina has been raised to be perfect.
