Your analogy with the over heated phone is so interesting because it resonates for me. Thank you

DID isn't that rare. And it's not like how the movies portray it at all.

I have seen data that indicates DID occurs in 1% of the population, that most presentations are covert, that it is under/mis diagnosed most often, and that most persons are in treatment for 5-7 years before accurately diagnosed/treated. You both describe DID as very rare. What do you think about this? Am I wrong?

One thing with me when I disassociate, is I'll be doing something like watching TV or something, and then I will find myself in the middle of Walmart doing some shopping. I would have no memory of how I got there or what I would stop in for. This one time I even ended up in another state. Had no memory of how I got there or why I was even there. It is really frightening and unnerving to know that I disassociate like that. I live in a small town and not many therapists here know anything about disassociation, or they just have a baseline knowledge of it. I have a DX of osdd1-a. Would you know of any resources that I can give my therapist to help her understand more in depth about dissociation?
