The Brave Little Toaster is advertised as “an adorable adventure that kids will treasure.” But I soon discovered that the movie has some really weird moments that aren’t adorable AT ALL and there’s also A LOT of stuff in it that doesn’t make any sense!

The clown in the Toaster's nightmare scared me a lot when I was a little kid. Another disturbing moment in the junkyard is the song "Worthless" that the broken cars sing. Hearing them sing about their misfortunes and then getting smashed by the crusher seems really disturbing.

I remember watching it as a kid. Once Netflix became a thing where you rented DVDs, my family rewatched it. I like it even more actually. You bring up some good points, I won't lie. The sleeping situation especially. As for the unnecessary tension scenes. They all play an important role. The main five appliances have abandonment issues, but the air conditioner has been neglected. All the other appliances work just fine. The air conditioner as seen at the beginning of the movie barely works at all. Near the end, Rob ends up fixing the air conditioner and using him for the first time. The air conditioner is moved and starts to tear up. It is one of my favorite scenes in the movie. The main point of this story is that each character is brave. Each one sacrifices themselves throughout the movie. Blanket didn't like being stuck with thistles early in the movie, but fashions himself as a tent to give shelter. Lampy sacrifices himself as a lightning rod to recharge the battery. Kirby sacrifices himself by jumping off the cliff to save his friends. Radio sacrifices himself by trying to pull everyone else out of the mud pit and use his antenna as a last desperation while still playing music in the hopes that someone might hear it. He could have untied his cord before being swallowed by the pit, but he didn't. And as stated Toaster makes the ultimate sacrifice. Yeah, none of the appliances died, this is still a kid's movie. It does show what they will go through to get back to Rob or get their friends to him. As for Kirby's cord. When rescuing Blanket, it is noticeable that he is in complete control. At the waterfall, that much water, and that high level of sound freaked him out. He was no longer in control of his functions. It makes sense. As for Blanket in the tree not wanting to float down. He was most likely afraid of being that high up. Floating down from a tree is different than a stair rail. Two things that bug me about the movie were that they could move around and do their functions just fine without the battery. You seem them do this. And when they were finding ways to leave the house, they tried the refrigerator. The refrigerator, who is an appliance. They killed that refrigerator. Which no it wasn't worn out because Blanket was freezing in the freezer full of ice. As for the clown. I don't know why it was a clown. I could assume that Rob is afraid of clowns and toaster understands that this is something to be afraid of. I don't care. I don't know why it was a clown. All I know is that it scared the hell out of me as a kid and it still does. I'm not even afraid of clowns and that I don't know why that did that. This came out before the TV mini-series IT with Tim Curry. You make some good points, but I think you missed the message. I think you should give it another re-watch. Now if you want crazy that doesn't make sense, watch The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue and The Brave Little Toaster goes to Mars.

I'd have to disagree. I loved the movie as a kid, and I still really like it when I watch from time to time as an adult. I like the fact that despite seemingly to geared more towards kids, it can be a little more artsy and be a little more on the creepy side, I like that it has a more darker tone.

I was obsessed with this movie as a kid. I didn't care about the clown as it wasn't scary to me. The smoke hand grabbing the kid & taking him away was scarier than that! You totally missed the social issues that were portrayed in the junkyard scene where the cars were singing. Many of the cars there sang about the great lives they had and how much more they could've done. Others sang about how dull the "adult life" can be (consequences about kids wanting to hurry up & be 18). The most impactful car was the green pickup truck where he lived in a Hopi Reservation. He was fully functional and essentially committed suicide by driving himself to the crusher, representing a common and preventable tragedy of the indigenous peoples of America. Side note: This movie made me want to now throw things away willy nilly. Toy Story 3 intensified my hesitation so I require more time to decide on throwing things away.

@haileybrennan6195 Жыл бұрын
@@docholiday9513 most of this movie, and the book are actually told similarly to the wizard of oz. It’s not a story about the apliences only. It tackles deep things like life, death excitera. 1. The scene with the AC wasn’t just the AC exploding. The AC literally lost his mind and had the equivalent of a heart attack. The fact it’s shaken off in the movies unsettling but that aside this is ment to be the wake up call, it shows how a person can beak after prolonged isolation. That’s why he snaps when the toaster tells him he’s just jealous the master wouldn’t play with him. That’s a deep cut because who in general interacts with a AC. 2. I also agree that the light hearted forest scene was weird. However that flower is actually important to the story, it’s ment to be a reflecting how the other characters are treating The blanket. The flower bonds to the little toaster, but the little toast is both uncomfortable and a bit rude in response running away instead of actually talking things out more. This showed the flower dying of loneliness. The characters aren’t nice to the blanket for the first part of the movie. Even the toaster who’s annoyed by how clingy they are. This moment shows the brave little toaster how devastating loneliness can actually be. She starts being nicer to Blanket which she and the lamp talk about of course the toaster can’t explain in a way the lamp entirely gets. 3. Dream sequence is weird. I’m not gonna lie there are moments in this movie I don’t get but, this dream hammers home the conversation about life and death. The things we see. Forks, bath tubs, thouse are ways people have not a lived themselves. 4. The lamp sacrifices his life to try to save blanket. I don’t know how well developed it was, but it’s a character growth. The lamp was the one who didn’t get being nice or being there for someone. Now he’s looking for the exact person he’s been picking on and risking his life for them. No lie two the fake out death here actually got me. 5. The waterfall scene, remember how I was talking about the ACs blowout being the equivalent to a heart attack? Well, this is a similar situation, Kirby, is eating his own cord. That could kill him which is why everyone is freaking out. But why? What caused it. We’ve had two different ways a person can die so far, anger/isolation and loneliness, Kirby shows a third, stress or fear. I’ve experienced the equivalent to this moment before. When Kirby yells at his friends it’s less out of actual dislike in my opinion. It’s out of stress, fear, and embarrassment of what he just tried to do. He manages to push through in the end though deciding he does need his freinds and he’s willing to risk his life for them. 6.the shop, this is where the theme of nialism starts to show up. The song the apliences are singing, though not as we’ll remembered as the cars. Is all about pointlessness. These apliences have given up because they know their disposable and they can’t see another way out. especially the ceiling fan who’s stuck in the ceiling he can’t physically leave. The song is basically telling the characters to give up and accept their deaths. There’s literally a joke about ‘hanging around.’ 7. the group get to the master but the newer devices kick them out after convincing the group their unneeded. The thing is that all of the devices functions now a days are also old. Showing a continuous circle of new replacing old. 8. the junk yard scene. If you listen to the lyrics of the song and pay attention to the cars. The song once again comes back to the theme on nilism. All these cars are singing about their lives but they all still go to the same place. The group decided to defy this idea after relizing their owner is their. 9. After all of the themes of nialism, not a living, and sacrifices. We come to the moment where the brave little toaster sacrifices her life to save who she cares about. She doesn’t die by giveing up, or destroying her self. She sacrifices her life to save someone. I’m not going to say this movie has no flaws. I recently watched it with my brother for nostalgia and danm, if it’s not weird. But their was a point the movie and it’s creators were trying to make. It’s about empathy, life, death, and what it actually means to be a living thing. The book it’s based on was ment to be taken metaphorically and the movie is the same. That’s why I said it’s like wizard of oz. Another comparison could be journey to the west another travel story that’s ment to be a metaphor. Did they do a good job? I think so but I’m just one person. That opinion can change. The point is there was alot going into this other then it being another weird 80s movie. Though it is definitely that.

Loved this movie as a kid and it's super nostalgic, but it has a major plot-hole. It establishes that the main characters need the car battery in order to travel (at least Kirby needs it as he can't move without a power source). They lose the battery when they go over the waterfall, and in the following scene we see them having to tie their cords around Kirby so they can pull him. However, after they escape the appliance shop, Kirby moves around freely without the need of the battery for the rest of the movie, and it's never addressed or explained.
