A few years ago I was sitting in my front driveway when the neighbor's Great Dane (Sam) escaped from his yard and came running over towards me. My big orange cat (Garfield) suddenly leapt out of the bushes and confronted the dog before he get to me, stopping the huge dog dead in his tracks. Garfield hunched his back and began hissing at Sam and eventually chased the Great Dane back into his own yard. I have no idea where the expression "scared-y-cat" came from because in my experience cats are absolutely fearless when they feel compelled to defend themselves or their loved ones.

I really admire the cats no matter their size, they are so courageous. Huge respect to mommy cats.

My dog was subject to a vicious attack by a large German breed and would have been badly injured if it wasn't for Squeak my cat who lept off a high bank to rescue him. 4 or 5 ninja strikes sent the attacking dog running in terror the other direction. Squeak had led a feral lifestyle for years and when I began gaining his trust with food he was so skinny his head looked unnaturally large. He was a frightening vision when he was really mad , his eyes were full on psycho. He could be feisty with me at first and drew blood but I found that a few bops on the head with loose fingers and a scolding taught him respect. In later years he would spend ages with his head pressed against my leg if I was sitting on the floor watching TV. Sadly , Squeak was a Covid casualty , he went down sick in 2020 and no vet would see him. God I miss that little tough guy.

I love cats and dogs. But it's amazing to see cats with huge size disadvantages fiercely defend themselves and their kittens so effectively!

I had a Siamese kitten who grew up with my Chowchow. Both of them got along and would work together to become a dynamic duo and protect the property from Raccoons, Possum’s and coyote’s, who would try sneaking in the backyard to try and eat my mom’s Bantam Roosters/Chickens.

We have two females. The one in my profile picture is Cali. She is about 8 pounds, used to be a wild feral cat and had to fend for herself for a while. She is still a great hunter at about 15 years old. Courtney will be 10 in a couple weeks. She is all white and about 11 pounds. She has been with us since she was a kitten and is not much of a hunter. She usually leaves the smaller animals alone. But she is very territorial and tends to attack larger animals like dogs, fox and raccoons. I have stopped her from attacking dogs being walked by the house at least four times. The last dog she attacked was a 100 pound bull mastiff. And one time, a few years back, she clawed a big male raccoon - twice or three times her size in the nose and chased him out of the yard. He never came back. She is sweet to me, but vicious as a bobcat with other animals that dare to come to close or enter the yard.

Those back leg drop kicks are devastating and can be lethal. Cats are on another level...

I had a cat who would chase big dogs that ventured into her yard. Even at the ripe old age of 19 she would chase away three dogs.

My neighbor had a Tom cat named boots and when I say he could hold his own I mean he could hold it down. I never let my German shepherd out without watching him closely cause Boots hated dogs and loved to fight.

Good kitties! My former neighbors had an obnoxious untrained female GSD that ran loose. One day the dog showed up in our yard. I picked up my cat and showed her the pooch. She JUMPED out of my arms, ran to the dog and clawed her face. The dog howled and ran away, and never came back to our place.

I miss my cat Samson. He never saw a dog that he didn't attack and they knew enough to run. He would walk around the top of my neighbours dog run taunting his Doberman. Then, during a moments inattention by the dog, Samson would jump into the pen, get in a few shots and jump out again.

I work with a pet relocation company and believe me, cats can be very formidable adversaries. I've done battle with a few cats myself just trying to crate them and they can be EXTREMELY vicious and very precise in their attacks

I like how dog owners somehow think they have the right of way in all situations. Some idiot last summer had the gall to scold me because my cat who was on MY LAWN scratched his stupid dog that ran onto MY LAWN and accosted my cat ! I like both cats and dogs equally. I've had both over the years and always had the very best of friendships with them. I've always treated them with respect and affection and they responded well to this treatment. I've also made best efforts to communicate with them on their level and when they understood, that I "listened" to them, they made increased efforts to communicate with me too. 😊

Cats are most aggressive and most brave when theyre either pregnant or is nursing kittens. My rescued calico cat was nursing her 6 kittens when a guy arrived walking his rottweiler. The rottweiler was curious and approached the cat who was lying down and giving milk to her kittens. When the dog was near enough to sniff at the kittens, my cats all of sudden sprung into action and using her claws and teeth lunged at the big dog causing deep cuts in the face and neck. Blood was oozing out and the dog was yelping in pain. My cat was not finish and jumped on the dog and started attacking the dogs back and neck. I was so stunned and was calling my cats name to make her stop. The owner of the dog then tried to kick my cat away. My cat then turned her attention to the owner scratching his legs and feet. Bloodied and in pain, both owner and dog escaped. But that was not the end of it. An hour later, the owner came back with bandages accompanied by a policeman. Me and my cat were brought to the police station. The owner wants to press charges and demands to put my cat to sleep. Naturally, i disagree coz my cat was just defending her week old kittens. Fortunately, the police understood my position and just asked me to pay for the med bill and the vet bill for his dog. Oh well, im not really happy but i did what i was told just to get it over with. From then on, the dog would violently protest if his owner pass thru our street again, his face still bearing the scars from the incident.
