I have the previous 4K edition, and while this steelbook does look really pretty, I really like the artwork on the previous edition too. So if Dolby Vision is only a very minor/subtle difference from the previous 4K with regular HDR, I'm probably just gonna stick with the one that I already have. Good to know all this though, thanks for the info!

The original 4k copy is extremely bright and can really pop at times. I actually watched this first time a year ago and loved it.

I have the initial release of this on 4K. It's a little disappointing for me that Dolby Vision has been added now! But it is good for you if you've not picked it up yet. Which you should!

Amazing film. Won’t be upgrading from the previous release however, a higher hdr is too subtle a difference for me

I'm confused about their being an earlier 4K at a newer 4K rendition of bridge on the river kwai. I purchased this 4K movie on Amazon for around $17 and was not impressed with how it looked. Is there a newer version that's been restored in a better way that I don't know about? If the better looking 4K is Only available on the steel book one only, it is very expensive.

Bummer--I bought the previous 4k version just a month ago. Oh well--it sounds like it might be too subtle a difference to double-dip. Thanks for the review!

They can add Atmos to an old movie like this but can't on the upcoming 4k Heat release??

@@MovieGuy365 👍 they think too much about the money and not putting the best product out there. Fans will buy it regardless so they say "why bother spending money on Atmos if it won't increase sales?" That's why I don't buy rereleases unless there is a worthwhile return in performance upgrade. Unless the 4k transfer outs it in demo territory, I won't buy a re-release of they don't upgrade the soundtrack. Of more people did that, we would get better re-releases. That's why Disney's and Atmouse is what it is because it's all about profit and cutting costs and not to provide the beat experience to the fans, they will sell the same amount anyways. If we keep throwing our money at them, they will continue to reduce quality until it affects profit.

@@MovieGuy365 Where does it say he approved the 4K? I only know he approved the 4K scanned bluray.

The transfer from the 2017 remastered Blu-ray is the same one being used on the 4K disc. What isn’t 100% clear is how much involvement he had with the HDR. As much as the man revises the hell out of his movies on the home format, I’d be shocked if he had no input on the HDR and WCG.

My blu ray copy was much better than the 4k version. Lawrence of Arabia looked great in 4k tho

The film and the script is a complete load of bollocks. It was a truly inaccurate summary of the horrors endured by POW's building the Burma Railway. All POW's that I knew totally condemned the story, and regarded it as total fiction and an insult to their brutal captivity under the Japanese. The bridge depicted in the film was one built adjacent to Songkurai camp that was situated on the banks of a swift flowing river, the Huai Ro Khi. 😠
