I've never even considered that there could have been event only secret base decorations in gen 4 before, those were super cool to see. Also seeing you pass ACE to another game was super unexpected and I cannot wait to see what happens with that in the future.

Platinum has always been my favorite Pokemon game because there's so many new things I discover even after multiple playthroughs. I spent hours playing capture the flag with my sister as a kid when she still played them. Now I've recently gotten the third star on my Trainer Card after claiming 50 flags thanks thanks to having two systems. There's so many fun little things in this game, and I always enjoy finding them.

In regards to the 100 fossils, you do not need to wait weeks to get enough nodes for 100 fossils. You can bury sphere (up to 100), then nodes are more likely to appear around where you buried the gem. I was able to get 100 fossils this way by since this method yielded a lot of nodes per in game day. The time skip also works so I completed this in 3 real life days. I also tried to get them all but the only one I'm missing is the globe because I don't currently have a way to connect to wifi without a password.

man i miss the underground, i remember me and my siblings would build our bases close by and plant traps for eachother and work to get the coolest goods! what a treat to see such an in depth look at the decorating aspect since that was my second favorite behind just excavating stuff

I’ve been playing platinum in conjunction with a Heart Gold shiny playthrough & using the underground to farm resources/money, so I have found a lot of the decorations, but since I only have platinum & not another gen 4 sinnoh title, I guess my boulders will have to remain intact.

Since you've clearly been doing a lot of underground stuff, can you answer a few questions I have about it that I can't find info about? When do the shiny spots in walls reset? Are there a limited amount of them per day? Do they appear more in areas where spheres have been buried? Thanks for another video! I love these deep dives into decorations and ribbons!

As far as I'm aware it's a set amount spawned at midnight. They only appear on the map when you approach them, but you can see where they all are with the Treasure Radar on the underground PC

I didn’t play gen 4 until I was an adult (it happened to come out when I was 13 and thought I was too cool to enjoy things) but when I did finally play platinum as an adult I had to force myself to stop playing the mining mini game so I could actually beat the game. It sucked me in for reasons beyond my comprehension

Getting 100 fossils feels like such a task in it of itself... Replaying Diamond a year ago, I was trying to gun it for a cranidos to do the ribbon challenge with, and *4 days* of mining got me zip, zero, nada. The fact you got 100 is astounding to me.

@@SirToastyToes we did link battles all the time throughout our journeys and in the post game and believed specific Pokémon on our team developed rivalries. My infernape vs his torterra Staraptor vs Staraptor in which they always just close combated each other to death Dialga vs Palkia and so on That first adventure was a magical time. No internet access or guide book and the logic of the world being defined by a 6 and 7 year old. My two fav examples of this were when I found my first shiny a wooper, I believed it was a wooper possessed by darkrai and it needed my help. It remained on my team and eventually I discovered what shinies were and was happy to know my Quagsire wasn’t suffering. As for the second one my brother had an abra later kadabra on his team and we didn’t know what trade evos were. The logical conclusion? His kadabra was like Ash’s pikachu and wanted to show how strong kadabras can be, that kadabra stayed on his team and was his first level 100 Mon.

It's actually a bit sad that this was the last generation to have decorations, though when you really narrow things down, they always had some BS means of obtaining them all. Plus when it came to multiplayer functionality, most players only focused on trading and battling, so it's unsurprising why they stopped having decorations after Gen 4.

Oh, another thing I didn't know. You can bury Spheres on top of each other?! This combines them, but it's not straight addition, you lose some of the number in combining them. I've been using this when I'm out mining and I don't want to just throw away everything I just got. Even though it doesn't matter, it's kinda disheartening to leave a sphere because your bag is full...
