BATTLE BEAVER INFO:
I currently use a Battle Beaver controller on the "bumper jumper" control scheme with 6 back buttons, mapped to Drop weapon, Equip, Sprint (bottom left to top left) and Ping, Reload & switch weapon (bottom right to top right)

ADJUSTMENTS/BUTTON PLACEMENT:
I don't use smart triggers/stick tension currently, apart from removing rumbles I keep the controller default. The placement for my back buttons is "High, Standard & Extra Low"

Something you missed that I think is very important: You cannot use Drop Weapon to Drop a flag and flag juggle. The only way to do it is to Switch Weapon so you can't just replace Switch with Drop, I tried it lol.

Great vid. My fat fingers kept hitting my drop weapon paddle too many times by accident, often resulting in my death, so I ended up un-binding it. Only ever dropping a weapon on purpose is the true skill-gap!

The only thing you missed was if you are low on ammo or out of ammo you can drop the empty to skip the reload. For example you have an empty sniper if you walked over a sniper with ammo you have to reload as opposed to a fresh pickup

you can also drop a weapon if your teammate is waiting for the new one to spawn on a pad and hell pick the one you dropped up so you can get the other weapon

It's absolutely not skill oriented. It's not. It's just knowledge based. Anyone can drop their weapon instead of tapping y. Anyone. Do we really want everyoneeee running around where dropping your weapon instead of switching is the new norm? This won't create a new skill gap long term. It'll just be normalized.

@@ImTheMan0fSteel as someone who doesn’t even have weapon dropped mapped on my controller it absolutely adds a bigger skill gap into the game. However the Mangler is not a competitive weapon and I don’t even use it (especially in higher elo lobbies) and the drop combo makes that gun even more op than it needs to be.

@@AMJ22222 it makes a LOT of combos more op than the need to be. It's not just the mangler. And mapping a button does not create this big new skill gap. The pulse carbine is a problem too. Pretty much every weapon that can break shields easily and fast and is worth switching after. Which is .. like half the guns in the game.

@@ImTheMan0fSteel obviously it makes weapons better hence why I think there is still a skill gap. When I die to someone who combo and weapon drops I don’t get mad just because I don’t use it. I’ve just been stupidly lazy into not mapping it on my d pad and practicing it Personally if they got rid of instant weapon drop it would make my life that much easier. My only request is for them do get rid of the mangler or make it hold to drop. In the mean time almost no one touches the mangler in my lobbies so I don’t have anything to complain about and everything else is fair game.

I find it very strange for weapons to have melee damage attached to them unless they have a bigass blade. Melee kills should be consistent at a certain sheild level

I highly disagree. Different melee damage values allows for more unique balancing and more roles for weapons. Halo has always had an issue with redundant weapons and weapons that were just superior to others. Like the br, power weapons, or nothing in halo 3. It's just another layer of balance to be able to tune and mess with to give each weapon it's uses.

Halo isn't too much about realism though. Certainly, a back whack should not instakill an elite super soldier in super armor either. The purpose of the sandbox is to balance guns and abilities to make a certain playstyle. The mangler drop breaks this play style. It is why the pros have decided to not use it which is very cool that they have collectively made and honor a certain way of playing in order to keep the game fun and fair.

@@wbillich a backsmack from one super soldier to another could kill another because it could break their spine, and the spine is very vital in control over a Spartans armor, without control over it the suit literally crushes and mangles people inside of it. That being said, your point stands halo isn't about realism balance wise, they've been gameplay first up until 343 came along.

One way that would make the drop combo more accessible would be button combinations. It’s not currently possible I think but, pressing B+Y for example, instead of mapping to d-pad or a paddle would make the drop combo accessible without a sacrifice to timing, high value buttons, or a pay gate via controller. My favourite combo is the pulse carbine and commando. All you need is one trigger pull from the pulse carbine and if they all land it’s a one shot head shot for the commando

I totally agree about paddles being a necessity these days. Every other console introduced new buttons to the new controller but they skipped that this time and just put a massive paywall. They could still make pro level controllers nicer but at least have like 4 paddles/buttons on the bottom.

Hey Alex, Can you make video on your Battle Beaver controller? Why you picked what you picked on your controller? I was pleasantly surprised to see there is a controller that gives the option for 6 back buttons. But the choices on their website are so immense, I just don't know what to pick. What are the positions of your 6 back buttons? How do you use them (middle finger and ring finger only, or also your little/pinkie finger)? Did you go for increased thumstick tension? Did you went for the mouseclick like triggers and does that work for the charge weapons in FPS games? How easy is it to change/assign a different button to a back button? Those are some of my questions. 😁

Shyway taught me how to drop weapons and now I can’t mark enemies :( I’m dumb and didn’t map my ping to another button at first. I laughed pretty hard about that. You should have put a warning label on this video hahaha. Serious question though, what would you give up on your controller? If I remember right, it’s not possible to map everything to a standard controller as there aren’t enough buttons. (I could be totally wrong here)

I haven't had any durability issues yet personally, been using them for the past year. The one in this video I've been using pretty heavily since January - definitely got a lil wear and tear but still going strong. i see it as another bxr or bxrr kinda combo. i was never able to do anything without fail other than the bxr combo (i've tried and can get things like double-shot, but most of the time i just couldn't). so for me; i think the "mangler-drop" combo is legit and just fine. especially as you have shown that it's possible to map it to a button and still get the combo down. although, i also have 4 paddles at my disposal (using the powerA fusion pro 2) does make it that much easier. but i bought it on amazon for $60 brand new and i have been using it pretty much every day and absolutely love it. just wanted to mention that you can have a controller with paddles that you don't have to pay hundreds of dollars for (and it's cheaper than a regular xbsx/s controller) so for those that complain about paddles, well, there you have it i also just looked at pricing as i was typing this and it's around $62USD now, so it's still cheap to own

I really hope they don’t remove tap to drop. I think it’s perfectly fine how it is. At least wait until the weapon selection grows a little bit more and give it a chance before it gets removed. Yes technically if they remove it they can bring it back but in reality once it’s gone it won’t come back.

they should really include a setting you could check (✔️) to make double tap switch weapon (Y, Y) drop your weapon instead of switch back to your original weapon. I noticed a lot of people actually tweak out on that YY combo as they move around the map, so making it optional would help curb the whining...

Don't forget to bring the drop swap delay in which the sniper rifle bullet will shoot but won't count if done too fast and will still have the ghost shot in it

You make a lot of great point. However on halo 2.. there was a similar skill gap. BxR and double/quad shots… I also think if these skill gaps where having a certain controller or muscle memory down is beneficial. If people can’t handle it, don’t play ranked. People will always do what they need to get that edge in a competitive scene.

I don't think Spartan is complaining about the drop-weapon paddle controller pay wall. He's a pro, he doesn't care about paywalls. I think it's more so that he's worried about the tech being overly impactful and that it will lead to a less optimal meta (in his opinion), perhaps due to the counter-intuitive nature of the tech, or that its impact will lead to it being the only viable option.

I can imagine Master Chief sliding around corners and down ramps faster than a normally humanely possible. I think the reason I don't find drop weapon satisfying to execute is I have a hard time seeing MC dropping his weapon mid fight and picking it up again multiple times in succession. What if drop weapon was only faster if the weapon's mag was empty? Then there is more risk reward as you would have to start a fight with a weapon with a partial mag, and adds an extra skill gap of keeping track of how many bullets are left.

I like the concept of drop weapon, I think its original, which I like. I also think it is a realistic tactic that keeps halo's nuances grounded. It's also a fun way to outplay and encourages picking up weapons. Obviously, the manglers strength is an oversight. To fix this, I think they should just upgrade it to higher power weapon status or change it to spawn in more risky places. Of course, raise the respawn timer as well.

To spartan's point, I think its fair, but not valid to be removed. The d-pad is there, mouse and key has it. Padded controllers are already becoming the norm. Hopefully the price will drop soon though.

@@CD-fn7wd game actually runs better on a series x which is cheaper, so not sure how having a 2k+ PC (not that ridiculous all thing considered, especially if peripherals are included) isn't that big of a deal. Maybe over the base xb1 I guess? Also to OPs point about changing the mangler, just change how magnetism works on the gun. There's seemingly almost none on mkb already, so slap that on controller and you're golden. Isn't free hits then.

I guess it just depends. The fact that this game offers incredibly limited movement and most people I've come across just sprint around corners like animals, even in diamond/low onyx games, this is incredibly powerful. If this were Halo 5, this wouldn't be as difficult to counter with just how powerful the magnum was and the ability to boost, as well as a very user-friendly crouch strafe. But then again, this is probably not something I would use, I mean I've known about this for awhile and I've rarely used it in actual matchmaking.

I think a good solution to how powerful weapon dropping is with some weapon combinations would be to add a weapon-specific drop delay. So for some weapons, like the mangler, you'd have to hold the drop button for a certain amount of time that's longer or shorter depending on the weapon you're dropping. 343 could use that delay to even out the TTK of this mechanic vs not using it while still leaving it in as a high-skill tool for competitive players. RE the Mangler: The notion of removing or limiting what guns and mechanics are in competitive VS casual is just nonsensical to me. If it's not balanced enough for competitive play, what's it doing in casual? The mangler isn't too powerful, it's just too easy to use. I think having a very strong gun like it in the game is fine, and if it's too powerful in comp, they should tune it to be less easy to use. Add an open bolt delay, nerf it's damage against shields so it's only a three shot kill with headshots, etc. There's so many ways they could tune it that would satisfy everyone. Would much rather they do that than just remove it from comp.

Great video! So my main question is, are the pros not allowed to use paddled controllers? I kind of don't understand why some are complaining about that. I have found the game much more fun to play (got one during H5). So I agree they should be standard. I feel like pretty much any of the pro guys with a standard controller would wreck the average player with a paddled one. The equipment enhances the player, it doesn't make them good. A beer league hockey player with a $450 stick would still lose to a high level junior player, or NHLer with a $20 wood stick.

So the br is 2 shot melee kill only in ranked, it is 3 shot melee kill in every other playlist. It should have been consistent but whatever. The mangler now has a few hidden gems where 1 shot and a melee will set up a fastball or a pancake kill.....

Make the manger a power weapon that spawns in middle of the map. Simple. Like why the f is there that lame ass torpedo sniper, swap that for mangler in center piece and make everyone fight over it. Love the mechanic in the game sad the pros would even hate on one of the few cool unique things about the game.

not much wrong with the servers, the skill matchmaking is what leads you to play on certain servers, latency compensation is why you get shot around corners

I hope they remove it. I get that the extra button presses make it a skill gap, but, if you have it mapped to a paddle, it really isn't difficult to execute. And, slides *feel good* to execute. Drop weapon just feels like a necessity. And not sure how much risk/reward there is (unlike something like slides, which can potentially leave you in vulnerable position). If you miss your second mangler shot... have you actually lost time to kill by dropping and switching to BR? You're still getting your BR shot off before you would have gotten you're 3rd mangler shot.

I really dislike paddle controllers. Its not comfortable for me to use. Also, having sub optimal controls on a controller in an FPS game has been the standard since the beginning. Thats just the controller life. That being said letting off the left analog stick to tap the dpad is a very quick movement. I dont see it as a disadvantage. At least not one that can reasonably be calculated. With bullet magnetism and aim assist, that little hitch in movement probably wont get you killed. If anything it helps. Sometimes I will literally just stop moving right before the final shot that would kill me and the opponent misses. Since they are expecting you to continue on whatever trajectory you are on. I say keep the drop weapon thing in. Sometimes you gotta pay to play. If one is THAT serious about Halo and "needs" that small advantage, go on a buy a controller. The rest of us (myself included) arent good enough to really be suffering from it either way.

How far fallen is the halo so called "skill gap” become. Compare the skill gaps in any other halo title and then infinite smh ! Great vid tho shyway ur stuff is always top stuff the skill gap there between u and other content makers is high !

Mangler is pretty much GA'd in ANZ for highish level players. Especially scrims, tourneys and even in MM, so it's not just pros. If you're Onyx and using the Mangler in ANZ people are gonna be toxic towards you.

Those people should stop being babies. There's nothing wrong with the mangler, or instant dropping weapons to get a slightly faster kill. It all takes skill, and anyone saying otherwise just doesn't actually have any, and shouldn't be taken seriously. 90% of the pros these days, are rando nobodies because all the actual good players quit.

i disagree with removing the mangler completely but rather just lower ammo and increase spawn time to make it a power weapon with like 6 shots.

7:56 Mangler would be fine to keep 🤷‍♂️ still takes skill and aim. I don't understand why the pros don't use it though. Is it because it's looked down upon? If that were the case then it would certainly be petty on their part.

I don’t think we should make drop weapon hold to drop only, it further paywalls the animation to paddle controllers. It also doesn’t really create a skill gap just a practice gap. The people who are capable of timing the sequence are capable of timing it to hold. I don’t think we need everything action in a game to have a skill gap, the population is too low as it is. Steam is full of dead games because they cater to their hardcore players whose sole interest is to maintain dominance in the game. Skill gapping every function in the game is not the way, it’s ok to have something in a game that is advantageous that everyone can do.

? Far as I’m aware no changes have been made to switching weapons - either way there is a clear advantage to the drop combo, and I break that down in the video ^

@@alexstachura11 that note is In regards to the weapon jamming bug - the s2 patch made weapons feel inconsistent/less responsive right after swapping - mid season patch came out to fix that. Swap speed hasn’t* changed - shooting after swapping is just more responsive (like it was before the s2 patch)

so the pros think it's unfair that mangler is too easy because shield pop plus BR headshot. sniper can be used as close range shotgun plus BR headshot. i see them do it all the time. and sniper is dual use short and long range. what's really unfair is the ridiculous aim assist controllers have vs mouse.

@@hydb801 is that why the top mouse guy is 2500 Onyx on the mouse leaderboard but only diamond 5 on the cross play leaderboard. I have played with both on pc. The aim assist on controller is disgusting

Hold This: •Swapping weapons is actually easier as you don't have to manage where it went, get there, pick it up, YY. A swapped weapon is just..On you. •Grenades, Repulsors, your own momentum etc will have your weapons flying all over in match. •When you Drop a weapon you commit to the play being exactly X way but if you swapped weapon: a new surprise enemy doesn't mean asking "shit, where did I drop the-" (Respawn in 10s) There's much nuance brother.
