In order to give back to nature, the Cabins House showcases a house without foundations. Indeed, it is perched 3 meters (9,8ft) above a preserved ground, resting entirely on the two load-bearing walls made available to us by the Ivry-Confluences collective housing program. This programme was set up by a French suburban area in the Paris region. Faced with the recent densification of its territory, the municipality decided to reinvest industrial wasteland in order to offer individual housing on a green collective plot.
The project offers an original solution by vertically dividing the function of the spaces, from bottom to top, from the most common to the most intimate. In this way, the interior layout is marked by the omnipresence of the staircases that allows the users to choose the level of intimacy they want. In addition, their translucent railings allow natural light to circulate in all the rooms and act both as railing and as partition. Entirely composed of bio-sourced materials, the project is also energy self-sufficient thanks to the cabin’s technical architecture.
Therefore, Living in the Cabins House means limiting one's ecological impact by gaining height in order to find a haven of peace in the middle of a city that never stops.
