I think it helps that I have a soft spot for the original game. I can see why a lot of reviewers might not like it, but at the end of the day the game still has a bunch of unique aspects to it

Yep! It's a very amazing idea brought down a bit by some glaring flaws in it's presentation. I feel my C+ is fair for a neat game with some issues.

@@GoodGuySen my bias? It's a game with neat ideas with huge glaring issues. 3d models look ugly, story has issues, gameplay gets tedious. It have great music and art don't make it an instant perfect score. Idk how having problems with a game means I have a bias lol

Same, the original Nier is one of my favorite games of all time. I'm not sure I'd say Caligula is Nier levels of incredible, but it's really enjoyable if you look pass the flaws

Some choices matter. If you don't finish certain character scenarios, there'll be slight changes to the dialogue. For example-- you have to finish all character scenarios to get the best ending. There's one where you have to finish before a certain point of the game or else one of your teammates suffer drastic consequences. Not being a double agent is also a big deal. It might look like the ideal scenario when you finish the game with the go-home club only but it isn't. I also don't like the ost much. I mean it's good but it's repetitive. I have to mute it and play my own music because I can't handle the constant vocaloid theme songs lol. If they had a different singer each dungeon instead of fuckin' μ all the time, I would've been happy. Some of the ostinato members can really sing and they've even realeased an album where they cover their own music (and you get to hear aria sing too). I would've loved to listen to them instead. And god, the maps are a pain in the ass (THE ONE IN THE THEME PARK OH GOD JUST NO)-- but I really like the characters, especially the ones in Ostinato! I think that's my fav part about the game (if they had a romance option that'd be fun too lol). I've only played as a girl so I dunno the difference between each scenes. Btw, I finished this game three times so I think I've unlocked nearly everything. I know the best ending opens up the opportunity to mix and match members from the go-home club and the ostinato so more banter if you like that stuff. Downside, the combat banter isn't subtitled so if you don't know Japanese, then it'll be hard to follow. :(

I tried my best to go over the flaws (combat balance, dungeons, visuals, resolution) just as much as my positives. A C+ to me is a game that has some issues but has a good amount of promise. This rating isn't telling you not to buy it, its saying that if you buy it you are getting a product that has problems but is fun. All my videos are on niche games, and giving them all a C+ for being niche is unfair.

I've gotten that a lot actually! A lot of people became interested in trying this game out despite my score. Which is great! I always hope my viewers are willing to form their own opinions on games I cover. The main goal I have is to give people a vague idea of what they're in for, show off the mechanics, give my general opinions on it, and let them decide for themselves if they want to play it. I wouldn't say this is as good as P4G at all, but its worth checking out on sale!

@@culIen Yeah, review "scores" are pretty pointless in themselves since what person A may love person B may hate with a passion and gaming is very subjective apart from "does the game actually run". You articulated well of what you did and didn't like and the reason why and so when you go "well I don't like x because of y" I can go "You know what I don't mind y so I probably won't mind x". Obviously knowing what someone does and doesn't like in comparison to your own likes and dislikes is a lot more useful then a review "score" since it is so subjective. And yeah I mean P4/P4G is a game I have bought three times already, there are very few games I would be willing to buy more then once let alone twice, for me to buy it three times shows how much I like it, while not technically my first game in the SMT universe (I played Demikids Light/Dark as a kid) P4 was my first SMT game that lead me into looking for other SMT games, not just the spin off series of Persona but the actual main line SMT series and other SMT spin offs like Devil Survivor and Devil Summoner, and yes I do realize that Shin Megami Tensei is techniclly a spin off itself from the Megami Tensei universe so series like Persona and Devil Summer are techniclly spin offs of spin offs.

@Jflsy im only 15 hours in the game and I'm lovin it! The battle system is a bit confusing at the beginning but I eventually got the hang out of it. It's really fun I don't mind fighting and grinding alot. Lol. It's so satisfying when the combos "falls" in the right timing. The story and the characters are so far, okay. But I can't really say too much coz I'm still in the first few chapters of the game. IMO, it's like Akiba's Beat with a vey unique battle system.

If you have to play one, get Overdose. The original is real bad in comparison

Personally, it really depends on your preference. I played the Vita version first on sale, I enjoyed it. Though I wouldn't pay full price for either, it's a good game but it's been poorly executed and isn't worth $60 or even half price for the regular version. Basically, take the game with a grain of salt. It's got a lot of flaws but if given a chance, it's not too bad. I'd recommend waiting for it to go on sale for at least maybe $20.

I would jump to Chaos;Child next, since that's the only other title to receive an official localization. There's also Steins;Gate Linear Bounded Phenogram (if you bought Elite), and the Steins;Gate 0 anime (highly recommend it for those who finish the game, it adds a TON of new story to it and fixes almost every single flaw the game had). If you are fine with fan translations, then you can look into the PC release of Chaos;Head. C;C is amazing though so start with that

It's definitely a remake (new engine, new models etc) it just isn't as good of a remake as people would have wanted.

i don't really know if it's a new engine but still the same nothing change just upgraded graphic and more detail and it maybe added new mission or minimum things therefore it's a remaster

it's like you saying ffx remaster in ps4 from ps2 is a remake since it has a new engine and new model/ upgraded and more detail graphics and models when it's clearly say it was a remaster lol

Because there are 1) Plenty of people who would want to play this on switch, so they need to know what they are getting into 2) NISA sent me the switch version, and before launch I would obviously have no idea how the port was. This is why I focus on the game as a whole first and then the port. That way people can see how the game holds up and then find out if the switch version has any value. Reviewing the switch version also has benefits for previous caligula fans, as this is another portable version of the game.

I don't think this is that strong in the story department, but as someone who has played every persona game persona 2 still probably has the best story in the series. People only say they are bad because the gameplay hasn't aged well.
