The battle sequence at 11:05 pretty much summarizes what players will experience in the game. I can't imagine pressing that many buttons that many times just to "end" my turn lol

This makes me super sad... I was hoping for something with depth. Thanks for doing this review, definitely saved me time and money. I have an affinity for tbs, rpg, and anime. I had never played this before but I guess I won't play it now either. The future holds better things though. If you can I definitely recommend doing a Super Dragon Ball Heroes World Mission review when possible, the fanbase behind the game franchise is already massive, plus you know what your getting into without much disappointment if any(story).

I do love JRPG.Especially when I can play them on the go.And the music in the game are really great.

im gonna be honest, at the beginning of this review i wasnt sure if i was going to get this game by the end of it im sure im going to get it simply because it sounds funny, people walking around in herds, the music being metal when they are calling it girl and mellow, something baout that just makes me laugh, it might be a trash game, but it sounds funny LMAO

I will say this as my 2-cents subjective review segment of these reviews...can JRPGs get more original in their information HUDs / dialogue boxes? From game to game they just appear to rip off each other. It's unimaginative.

You mentioned the visual fidelity to go down the drain in handheld, but how is the overall performance? Any FPS drops or does it run smoothly?

Jace puttin in the work, great job! I saw him playing this one his switch a bunch and assumed it was a game about a vampire haha idk why "Caligula" is a vampire in my imagination I guess, I was way off!

Have some of these issues been resolved? VGP is releasing a second printing of the physical.

The first couple of minutes had me like "oh a budget persona!" but going further the review, the world seems so plain and lifeless. Although the color palette is good, for me the fun ends there. I wish they have taken their time polishing the gameplay more so its not shaky and can stand on its own. Still, thanks again for delivering a good review, and more power!

Great potential, flawed execution I got it long ago cuz I thought it could be a Persona like game but sadly not quite, I still enjoy it though just nowhere as much as I do Persona, it would be great if they could make a sequel after smoothing out the rough edges, improving the combat and story and we might get a great game, who knows

I really was looking at getting the game and even had it on my wishlist and while the story concept seemed dope and the trailer looked good I really wanted to thank you for the insightful review. There's too much here I wouldn't like so unfortunately it's a pass for me.

I was actually debating whether to get this game or Octopath Traveler for my birthday but now that I see The Caligula Effect for what it is I'm going to have to go with Octopath Traveler since the game is a better JRPG than this mess of a game. Thank you SwitchUp for reviewing this game. I take reviews and other people's opinions about certain games very seriously.

I'd say for me, it's maybe a 6-7/10. It feels like a game made for people who loved Persona 1 & 2, but I do have a few issues with the character system

I'm 60+ hours into the first Persona game I've ever played, Persona 5, and Man I was stoked to see "Persona Lite?" In the thumbnail. I am craving more Persona. I'm considering the purchase of a PS Vita just so I can play Persona 4. Sadly this game sounds like it misses the mark. Maybe I'll re-buy P5 for the switch if there is truth to that.

I pre-ordered it on Amazon, but cancelled it a while ago. At first glance this seemed to be something I'd like, since I've played the Persona games and apparently the writer of the earlier Persona games worked on this. Yet after looking at more game play of it from the Vita version I got the feeling the game could quickly become super repetitive gameplay wise. Also hearing that the game looks awful in handheld mode on the Switch kinda defeats the purpose of getting it on the Switch.

This was a game I was eager to play but it seems to have mixed reviews. I don't know whether I should get it or not... Does at least have some kind of "Social Links" with your main party members or is it just, like you said, "press this button 3 times" and people become your friends? :p

lol this game already has dlc costumes you can pre-order (PC version), they cut them out of the main game and are ready to sell them to you before the game is even out. Its like all these shady and greedy practices are on most releases nowadays

'looking at your tv and shouting 'what?' yep..jrpg 😂 love it. c'mon persona..release on switch! its got a super difficulty setting, and trust me , enemy later on have instant kills and your party has non effect attacks that you have to strategise against. and the story is persona genius.

Well judging from what I've seen (how it feels like you're just dropped in the middle of the story when you start the game) I had a feeling it was gonna be a little on the cheap side but man this is way worse then I thought... I still may try to get it on sale or, if I get that desperate, for full price but man I was really excited for this sad to see it was such a let down

the map is empty, aren't that is the objective of the story, muse literally said that, she tried to created copy world but she admit it wasn't completed, nor perfect. even in the end its fall down to their game designer, its kind fits the story tone.

That running animation is horrid - motion captured, this is not.

I honestly did not mind the story, the characters DO have depth once you dive in deeper, and I loved the audio numbers by each of the musicians. But by the Shin Megami Tensei gods this game was repetitive. The combat, while unique, was wasted given how easily you could Leeroy Jenkins the fights instead. The graphics were bland and could have stood to have more animated story scenes. And 524 useless side quests? Hey NIS, you are NOT Bethesda game studios!

That's a bit disappointing, because this game looked really cool. However, going long stretches without gameplay and most sidequests being virtually identical are good enough reasons for me to give this one a pass. Great review, mediocre game.

I bought this game..... it was bad, very bad.

So, the game is not worth it at all. This is how I want to escape from second life VR, full of Yiff furrys and bronies.

The anime’s stupid and weird I all ready knew the game will suck

No dub option = advantage and nice filter for close minded ignorant xenophobes (I'm not talking about you, but these idiots who "won't buy it unless it's dubbed"). I really appreciate if game is being released only with its original voice track (and I'm talking about any kind of media from any country). Seriously if someone just can't accept the cultural differences, then that person shouldn't be buying it. Dub always mean way more alternation and dialogue butchering, because you'll be always getting made up (often censored) dub copy paste subs instead actual translation. Also, huge dialogue sections are super common in Japanese games. This is how they are building the atmosphere and connection with characters. I don't know why would anyone critique Japanese games for this if it's just an essence of thier games.
