Brilliant documentary. As a Muslim who has taken on a new pride in being a Muslim, the constant warring and subsequent decline of the Muslim Empire almost made me cry.

*Ottomon were winning World War 1 for first 2 year, when Arabs Revolt began then they started losing a war. Young Turks are also the reason for the fall of the Ottoman Empire. Donmeh and Young Turks promoted Turk Nationalism which forced other Communities inside Ottoman Empire to revolt against Turks.*

Now that's what you call journalism, I personally haven't seen a neutral point of view in this regard with such a profound way of explanation and in the meantime having enough material to keep you from misjudging Islam or blaming Non Muslims! Thanks Aljazeera...

I am pleased to say that I found this little series to be very balanced, and surprisingly unbiased! It is very rare that I say that about any documentary on KZfaq.

This brought tears to my eyes. The richness of human drama in epic proportion is so moving, & it gives a deeper insight into the people of Islam & the middle eastern spirit of humanity.

Whosoever is best in character, practicing muslim and has good leadership qualities is chosen to be caliph by people. It is not based on geography or nationality or lineage.

Tears gather in my eyes...What we had and what we have now! We are getting segregation like Al Andalusia. We are getting defeated in every sectors.We are still fighting with each other. What a pity! We shall never be able to unite ourselves if we don't follow the Ayat of Qura.O Allah! Give us Strong faith and courage that we can spread the words of Allah.

The part about the defeat of Granada was particularly very heart breaking for me, especially with the song and guitar about help that didn't come ☹️

I have now come to appreciate how important and absolutely crucial an islamic empire with a central ruler is!....Borders=division= contemporary islamic world.

The Ottoman Empire was a transcontinental empire established by Turkish tribes in 1299. The term "Ottoman" comes from the name of Osman I, the leader of the Turkmen nomads who founded the dynasty and empire around 1300. The Ottoman Empire reached its peak during the reign of Sultan Selim I (1512-1520) and Suleiman I (1520-1566). The Ottoman Empire's glory lasted for nearly 600 years, from the early 1300s until after World War I. One of the greatest achievements of the Ottomans was the conquest of Constantinople in 1453, which was then the capital of the Byzantine Empire. After the conquest, Constantinople was renamed Istanbul and became the capital of the Ottoman Empire. On January 16, 1878, Russian forces defeated the Ottoman Empire's forces in the Sanjak of Filibe, Edirne, which is now Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Very well put together. I found it informative, although not in-depth enough to cover Muslim presence further into Africa or the involvement of the Moors in Andalusia. None the less it was, good viewing and captured the internal political-religious dynamics within the faith brilliantly. What it showed was, just how much being a Muslim, is dependent on what you know and how you feel about what you know.

A good step towards the history of middle east, there had been so may politics for ruling the Muslim world through prophet hood could not be composed on so short but really a good work is brought in this series, I could learn a lot, thanks.

Superb and astonishing documentaries with such a high visual content, I wish these documentaries should be Dubbed in different languages like bangali, hindi etc.

I am from Kenya. My grandparents came from India because the British need labor in Kenya. I grew up in the 60s and in my History classes we had learnt that it was the Omani Arabs who were taking slaves from the east coast of Africa to Arabia. This was long before the Europeans had good ships to venture out into the vast oceans. Slavery, in various forms or fashions has existed in the Arab world for the last 2000 years as it still does. It therefore would be wrong to just blame the Europeans for slavery. The Europeans, despite all their looting and cruelty, have, at least on paper, abolished slavery
