Pay attention, modern movie makers. This is how you make a good villain. A villain that is both sympathetic and terrifying. A monster that is simultaneously gentle and brutal. There is none other quite like The Candyman. I feel like this is a lost art, and The Candyman should go down in history alongside Frankenstein's monster, the Phantom of the Opera, or even Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights.

Those bees were all real and were bred specifically for the movie. Both Madsen and Todd were sprayed with some type of queen bee pheromone to make all of the bees crawl over them and there was an ambulance on set ready to take Madsen to the hospital if she ever got stung because she's actually allergic to bees.

I read a comment regarding the sad expression on Candyman's face after kissing Helen. I don't think it was anything specific. You have to understand, he never chose to be a supernatural urban legend that kills people, he was forced into this fate by racist dipsh!ts who punished him for falling in love with a woman with a different skin color, he was an innocent person who did nothing wrong, its a tragic story and I actually like how they give a legitimate reason for him becoming a monster. Not many horror movies give reasons for showing sympathy twords the villain, Candyman however you can't help but feel sorry for him. The only other villains I can think of off the top of my head who people can sympathize with is Jason Voorhees because of the neglectful circumstances that lead to him drowning as a child. And Michael Myers because he was cursed by an ancient pagan cult (Thorn) as a child, which forced him to kill everyone of his own bloodline/family, which is a horrible fate for someone to be forced into. Holloween 5 touched on this when they show a close up of Michael shedding a tear, as if his human side was crying out for help from the depths of the abyss of torment he's forced to endure.

Poor Tony Todd had to really undergo the pain of having to be stung with real Bees inside his Mouth. They should've hired Rob Bottin to create a life-like Animatronic Head of Tony Todd to use for close up shots to stuff real Bees into the Mouth without having the real Tony Todd to undergo the painful stinging in his own Mouth.

In this particular scene candyman seduces Helen to make her join him. The baby is used as bait, because he knew that she would come searching for him and she knew where to go. Daniel Robitaille and Caroline love story was briefly told during the dinner scene with Helen, Bernadette, husband's and a colleague.

I'd love an in-depth analysis of this film. Like, the wiki mentions how it was written to examine race and folklore in the US, but I'd also be fascinated by a deconstruction of the relationship between these two characters, narratively and contextually. A black man falls in love with a white woman, gets lynched, and his legacy is twisted by pain. A privileged white woman encroaches on a world she doesn't understand and, though she suffers, comes out a hero(?). Her spirit lives on in rage. Like...is that a metaphor for the progress from Just Curious, to Ally? Idk. Can't wait for the new movie anyway.

I really hope the candyman reboot is good its produced by Jordan Peele (get out,Us,The Twilight Zone 2019) it should have something to do with clive Barker himself as well. Fun fact in clive's original short story candyman himself is a white dude who was killed

They actually used baby bees for this scene because they had weaker stingers and were less likely to sting. Which is important since the actress here was severely allergic to bee stings.
