2:13 The brilliance of his appearances is that there aren't any special effects. You don't see any mist or him materializing. He's just fuckin THERE. Nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide. Plus the fact that he can interact with the real world beyond just carving up his victims, cause damage like the broken window or even removing the restraints. The subtlety gets over a lot farther and helps the jump scare factor.

2:02 Can we appreciate her facials in this scene? Like, you can see and feel her start to wonder if she really has gone crazy and it's actually been her this whole time killing and attacking her friends. Not the legendary killer, Candyman. And, for that, I tip my hat to her.

The ONLY candy man kill. This is why this movie is so great. It didn’t need to have a thousand kills to be a great horror flick. It was so psychological and had a great story. Probably the most underrated horror film. Top 5 of all time if you ask me.

I'm pretty sure that there were some cuts made in this scene. I vividly remember watching this movie several times in the 90's on vhs. The version I saw had a more horrifying ripping sound and there were a few more seconds shown from the back when the candyman was ripping the hook upwards with way more blood spurting all around. Scarred me as a young teen. Never mind,just saw that version right below this one.nice.

The scariest part of this scene for me is not Candyman's arrival or his slaying of the psychiatrist, but actually his departure when he flies backwards out of the window. Call it comical if you find it so, but I for one find it creepy. Candyman's exit from the office reminds me of things that monsters are capable of in the nightmares we have - defying the physical laws of the real world and doing things that human beings cannot do. In my experience, bad dreams always seem more realistic than good ones, not to mention that we tend to remember the bad dreams more. We often feel disappointed when we wake up after having a good dream that makes us happy knowing that reality is often quite different. When we're in the middle of a nightmare, however, we often subconsciously know it's a nightmare but can't do anything about it until we wake up - or at least we don't realise it's a nightmare until it's too late... until the monsters attack, or until we say or do something in the dream to make them attack. Where I must give due credit is to the incredibly frightening musical score from Philip Glass as Candyman flies out the window. Sometimes similar music can be heard in our bad dreams, too - definitely in my experience, anyway. This long comment that I have just typed explains why _Candyman_ is one of my all-time favourite horror movies: because after initially summoning the Candyman, it's as though Helen has been sucked into a living nightmare from which there is no escape, and we, the viewers, are right there living it with her.
