I have been a huge Allan Holdsworth fan since the early 70s and still vividly remember seeing Jakko on the James Whale show and wondering who this Holdsworth inspired guitar moster was! Jakko had balls of steel taking over from two true greats Allan, and the incredible and sadly missed Alan Murphy. AM was the perfect blend of AH's fusion virtuosity and an accessible pop sensiblity - his playing on the first Go West album is breath taking! I am sure Jakko's relaxed personality equipped him well to take on the role, and he has gone on to become the truly great prog and fusion innovator he is. But it is evident, beyond his incredible guitar skills, he is a fully rounded musician, being a composer, arranger and driving force within progressive music. Great interview by a great musician.

I'm really glad Jakko landed the Crimson gig. His AH anecdotes are fantastic. I saw him at the Band on the Wall in Manchester at the end of the 70's with a band of London jazz alumni. He was cheerful warming his hands on a cup of tea. Not as dour then. Great interview Captain.

I passed him on the street when both of our bands were in Montreal (One band obviously being much larger than the other) and I did a double take. We made eye contact, and I feel that we both knew why. I looked it up later, and the whole band were having a day off in Montreal. I still kick myself for not turning around and trying to meet him. KC have been one of my favorite bands for almost 10 years now

Had the pleasure of seeing King Crimson twice this week; first night with my 60 year old boss who saw them a few times in the 70s, and the second time with my 18 year old son. Verdict? F*&%ing brilliant! Yes it is muso stuff, but the level of musicianship is breathtaking. Oh, and the 3 drummers thing is wonderfully bonkers and really works. I would urge anybody that is a true music fan to see them if they get a chance.

This guy was able to play with Mark King Mick Karn Hackett Chris deburgh steven Wilson Danny Thompson Cliff Richard & Crimson?!? I think he is the only person who can read off that resume . Going to have to check out his catalog. Who else can say he played with the gods of fusion dance pop (level 42) & gods of art rock (crimson), gods of art post punk (karn barbieri )(& a god of progressive folk (Danny Thompson) & the god of modern progressive rock mastermind & audio engineer wizard : Steven Wilson ? No one has that resume of the following names, folks. It is just enough he became a honorary member of crimson. He named 5 people or groups that are my musical heroes. 🤯🤯🤯🤯Have to check out this man’s work. 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳

Saw them live in Vienna last summer and it was the greatest concert experience I've ever had. It's funny in retrospect to hear that Jakko's first album was "In the Wake of Poseidon" because the set began with "Pictues of a City". It was kinda disappointing after the fact that they changed the vocal parts for the Belew stuff and didn't play "21st Century Schizoid Man" but didn't really care during the performance, I was just hooked throughout the entire thing starting with hearing Robert Fripp announcing "Welcome to a hot date with King Crimson!" before they went on stage.

Wow! Been there done that. In the 70's I eas in a Prog rock band Tallis doing the West end thing. We had a devote following the word 'Virtuoso's' was the buzz. with a lady from the Operetta scene and a violinist from the London Phil. The drummer had a jazz background and was compared to Elvin Jones. Lots of 'big deals' went nowhere. The most promising doing a record with Charisma then backing up Peter Gabriel on the same tour. But it all went south when punk broke. Still at it writing with a bass player with a tenor sax Billie Holiday background. Writing accessible tunes but with an early Crimson vibe. Lots of heavy guitar going thru my Plexi.

When they talk about the age of the current KC fan base around the 1 hr mark, Jakko mentions that for example, at the shows that KC did in italy, the fans were really all ages and he was quite astonished that there were a lot of women in the crowds. I would just like to add, as a woman, that I prefer intelligent music over say ....an 80's hair band, pop music, etc., so I've always been drawn to the progressive rock music, if you will, as it fills all of my senses. I really have to listen and think about what is being created and it's much more fulfilling. I have noticed too, on several of the social media platforms, that there is a wealth of younger fans in South America, Italy, Japan, like Jakko said, in countries outside of the UK, as the UK tends to harbor the older fans that have been with KC from the beginning. No pun intended, Greg. And WOW, just wow on that track you played there at the end.

Great interview, sweet Jam. I can sympathize with Jakko's comments on streaming, but I think they really do help to introduce people to new music, even this video did that for me, I was so intrigued by the jam I went to the "Burning shed" and found a couple of his albums, but there wasn't a hint of a sample, so how do I know what I am spending on? I mean, it could be awesome like the jam, or it could be too bizarre for words, am I supposed to take a punt? I would hazard a guess that a try before you buy strategy is likely to generate more sales than a spend and hope one.

Wow! Great video. Although I'm a little familiar with the more famous old King Crimson stuff I'm not aware of the current line up but this has made me need to seek them out. Jakko seems a top guy and is obviously a great player and I loved the outro track (note the technicality AND feel all you tuneless shredders out there! lol). Also very interested to see Jakko using a Helix as I took the plunge at the start of this year and got myself one (relegating my 2 trusty old JCM800's and horde of pedals to the loft) and I honestly haven't looked back. If you like to "tweak" with lots of different amp and effects combinations then it's the way forward. Does it sound as good as my old rig driven by my Marshalls? Nope. Now I've got totally to grips with it the Helix sounds better!
