I built a bunch in the 70s. The 427s with good head work and the twister 780 or the 850 DP and the L-88 cam would make a grown man cry!, The best sleepers out there. I m a Ford guy, but credit where credit is due!

Twister? You mean the Edelbrock "Torker"
@Bbbbad724
@Bbbbad724 6 күн бұрын
@@Hipurr1000 No this was before the Torker. The GM Performance was in with Motion and Baldwin and set out to solve the short port long port problem with an idea Smokey had that turned the 3310 780 to an angle and took the divider down and equalized the tumble in the plenum. The Torker is a single plane. The other one is a dual. The FE MR/HR was still better at Tumble to Swirl. The FE was a well designed engine but they didn’t get it to the street. The Rat Motor was king of the street. I was listening to “The Black Knight “ and some of the guys that were in NY and NJ, And in the SWMO was Rat Country. The race Ford stuff when it was there was fun but who could afford it? The HR and TP in the aftermarket block days like the Shelby and Dove and good Ford stuff that lived at 500+ cubes. It was the 80s and the TP/HR and Rat motors. The Boss 429s didn’t seem to catch on well enough, the internal weight was tough. Rats and FEs were still in the pocket of street racing.

I have a friend who has a 1970 formula firebird. It has a factory installed 428 with a 4 speed. He has all the documentation for it. How rare is it? I have heard about other Pontiacs from 1970 with 428 engines in them. Apparently in 1970 gm got away with some things that really shouldn't have happened.

I LOVE rare cars like this. I remember a guy ordered a '60's Mopar (Ramcharger?) that he'd originally ordered for racing with the 426 Max Wedge motor and acid-dipped panels, but when he picked it up found out it had the new 426 Hemi at no charge because they ran out of Max Wedges! It had been hand-written in on the build sheet (which the guy wisely kept)! Sadly the guy sold it some time ago so it's not a one-owner car, but at least the people who've owned it since have treated it with the respect a one-of-one car deserves!

My first car was a 1970 Nova SS 396 BB 2 speed power glide. My brother in law couldn't drive a standard so when he was in the Navy during Vietnam. His parents custom ordered it for him, after Vietnam he drove the heck out of it. I renovated my sister and his basement into a Club basement. Disco Era, well it was my early graduation 🎓 present. Ragged out, but our HS auto shop teacher helped me rebuild it back to it's original glory. Of course I put a new paint job on it with custom graffics done by me and my brother. I always regret selling it because I had the original build sheet and paperwork. One of a kind 😅 but we sold and traded cars like changing pants. My grandkids all wish I would have saved all my cars for them. I wish I would have saved them for me, because I would have been able to sell them for a fortune. I saw a 1969 Judge sell for a quarter million dollars on Barret Jackson over 10 years ago 😮 I had a 69 Judge. Chevelle's, Camaro's, Mopars, Ford's, ECT. Now that my health is bad I can't do anything like that anymore.☹️😢

It took 5-6 months to build the truck, it came in June or July 1979 , when the dealer saw the truck, he said this truck with the 454 BIG 10 , It was not supposed to be built after April 1979. First quarter of 79 was the last year for 1/2 tons with Big Block 454’s built. We had one of the last it maybe the last 1/2 ton 454 Ever built that year.

That sucks because back in 2007 I sent mine to the junkyard. I didn't know what I had after it was too late. They put it in a gated area and sat on it for many years. Until they got caught cooking meth on the property and dumping the harsh chemicals in the yard of the junkyard. Then, a company came in and crushed every car on property.

Obviously, the market doesn't agree with me, but personally think the 396 novas are more desirable than a Yenko. I get it that the yenkos are rarer and Don Yenko being a boss in the racing and Chevy community but these cars were just engine swaps with some graphics, some of which were applied in an inconsistent manner.

When I seen the car inquired about it, he phone his son and asked him what he wanted to do with the car. His son told him he didn’t care. I told him to sell it.
