I have shot Wolf .223 on the 816 and it functions as long as you set the gas regulator to its "adverse" setting. It will also cycle brass .223 just fine on the standard setting and will even run 5.56 on the suppressed setting. My CAR816 A2 has been an outstanding rifle and I wish I could find some of the shorter uppers for sale and either SBR my existing Caracal lower or slap it on my pistol AR lower. Also, unless this is a different MFT Minimalist stock than the one I have, it does actually lock into place and will not slide out.

I bought the 814A2 for $699 direct from Caracal. I hear they are moving to BOISE, Idaho and manufacturing all in house by the end of the year. Chris, I spoke with Justin. You need to schedule a factory tour and report back here.

Strike Idustries has made some great upgrades that I use on anything I build.

There is a manufacturing capability in Middle East, outside of Israel. For example, KADDB in Jordan, Military Industries Corporation in Saudi Arabia, not to mention Egypt, Turkey and Iran. It is just that most of this stuff never came to our market, and probably never will. Love your reviews and cant wait to get my hands on the 11.5 inch 816.

Chris, Thanks for another good video. I don't mean to nit-pick, but I have owned several Minimalist stocks and they all have had a standard CAR spring-loaded locking pin and lever (albeit flush fit) and therefore work the very same way ....which locks in both directions. Some buffer-tubes/receiver-extensions may not allow many stocks (like the Minimalist and later Magpul designs that came after the CTR) to align in the fully-closed/collapsed condition, which means the stock isn't locked only in that one position. Also, some tubes are roughly machined and may not lock when brand-new until the holes wear a bit, with many different stocks. BTW, in the endless pursuit of perfection, I run the POF 308 length buffer-tube with the correspondingly longer and heavier VLTOR A5 buffers and Tubb flat buffer springs with the tube slightly-modified to work with the Paul Leitner-Wise heavy-duty buffer retainer ($14.95 w/free shipping) which are "bulletproof" as compared to the mil-spec part ...all of which parts I have tested and highly recommend and which combination is outstandingly durable and reliable and versatile to run reliably all known 5.56/223/300/6.8/etc. uppers, even piston-driven without any fear of ever damaging a lower. The flat springs can be a tad annoying to remove ...by "unscrewing the spring" at least until some spring-compression is relieved). While you have the buffer tube off, for about $20, I also recommend throwing in the excellently designed and made Radian AR-15 takedown pins: www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/takedown-parts/pins/ar-15-takedown-pin-kit-prod104898.aspx You know POF and TUBB, but the improved retainer can be difficult to find, so here is the link: www.cpi-va.us/leitner-wise-design-heavy-duty-buffer-retainer/ Anyway, my input is unsolicited, but I think these parts really do enhance the AR-15 in several ways and get us closer to perfection for the AR-15 systems we all love, and worth a try, even if not absolutely necessary!

I thought Caracal USA made ones are made by Wilcox (subcontracted) for Caracal UAE specifically for the USA market. I would like it if you went to Wilcox and compare it to what you saw in the UAE.

I am interested in caracal quite a bit, I bought a Lwrc six8 because of a review you did(GREAT DECISION AWESOME RIFLE) i really like piston rifles, my issue is I CAN NOT FIND THESE FOR SALE, anywhere online. I would really like the 816 pistol.

Would you say this carbine length setup with the h2 buffer and the dialed in port size recoils like a mid length gas system? I know you prefer the mid length gas system because the soft recoil and longevity of parts wear. And lastly, would the Car814 benefit from a lmt bolt carrier to bleed off excess gases and lower the cyclical rate?

Wilcox Industries isn't a name that I traditionally associate with firearms manufacturing. Are they more a "parts assembler" with the Caracal lineup or do they manufacture components as well?

I looked online, gunbroker, and looked at 5 dealers listed on the caracal website. I found exactly one rifle for sale. Nobody has these rifles. The companies listed on the caracal website listed as official dealers don’t even carry these rifles anymore. Are you sure this company is are even a ongoing concern in the USA??

Regarding the UAE-produced guns, presumably they manufacture their own mags in house?

Hey Chris, ive noticed that the 50 and 45 gr varmint & predator loads from American Eagle, Winchester and Sig tend to fly apart if it strikes the ground, a branch or even a cardboard target when fired from my modded FN 16" M4/RECCE carbine with its button rifled, chrome lined,1/7 twist barrel. Ive never noticed them coming apart inside the bore but definetely upon striking basically anything. I didn't realize there is a danger of them coming apart in the bore. If this occurs can it damage the barrel or is it just a terminal effectiveness issue? I ask because my FN really likes the AE 50 gr varmint & predator load at 3325 fps, grouping sub 2" at 100 yds and usually more like 1.5" believe it or not. And i also have some Sig Sauer Elite 40 gr varmint & predator loads ive been wanting to try. At 3,650 fps(claimed) i expect them to make a mess of a melon but after seeing this video im hesitant to fire them. What would you suggest? Thanks in advance!

The website says the profile of the barrels are called "modified m4" whats that about?

I still believe the lack of chrome lining is a cost cutting measure. As soon as I see a barrel with nitriding or a similar coating, I dismiss it and move on. I think a duty rifle shooting lots of FMJ at a rapid pace needs that lining for longevity. Just my two pesos.
