In his last season with Toronto, I was at a Bruins home game with my son who was attending his first-ever NHL game. After the warmup, Felix handed his stick through the glass to my son. After the game, the Leafs trainer took it down to the dressing room and got it signed. A few years later, we enjoyed him at Boston at the end of his career. Needless to say, we are fans of Felix.

I've only ever been to one NHL game (I'm a filthy Euro). Parents took me to Toronto in 95 (I think). Flames vs Leafs up in the rafters of Maple Leaf Gardens. Potvin got the win 4-3. 13 year old me had a great time. There was even a fight... in the crowd.

He was a hero to us leafs fans back when I was a kid. He had the coolest gear and the best posters. I used to try to mimic his stance (unsuccessfully) when I played in goal. Just the two playoff runs from 93 and 94 are enough for leafs fans to always love this guy. PS this guy doing the videos is absolutely brilliant…subscribed!

2002 Playoff run in LA got me and a lot of my friends into hockey. I’m 33 now and was too young for Gretzky. Many people out here in SoCal aren’t Kings fans until they win a few series and man those back to back playoff runs with the Avs were as exciting as it gets. I remember people were like the Kings won another game ???? Whoaaa , good times … Shout out to ESPN and Steve Levy who did a lot of those broadcasts!! Got me into hockey!!

Obviously, the Thing about Potvin is that he was able to establish him as a brand, with his Helmet and Pads - early in his career. That will remind Fans of that time - otherwise, no one would think about a "solid" Goaltenter. Greetings from Germany

Felix Potvin was always my favorite player as a kid. I still have a decent Felix Potvin Hockey Card collection that I'm rather fond of. What's interesting is that I've always been a Red Wings fan, so consequently more than a few Red Wings players have eclipsed him since then. The Potvin/Sundin/Gilmore era of the 90's were the last Maple Leafs team that I really liked. However, I miss all the great players from the 90's in general. What a time it was.

As a Sharks fan I will always remember Felix the Cat for that 1994 series against Toronto but mostly I remember him as a solid goaltender for the Los Angeles Kings in the early 2000's. The first time I actually rooted for the Kings was that miracle 2001 upset of the mighty Detroit Red Wings. I always respected Potvin and the mask was pretty cool also😎

I enjoyed watching "Felix the Cat" play. I went to a game in BC where he was behind the net and turned over the Puck but came flying around the front of the net to make I think a stick save. You held your breathe and was then amazed at his quick reflexes. I also remember "backup Bob" who played pretty steady as a Canuck backup goalie.

My fav of all time without question. So under rated it's insane. - His weak spot wasn't high glove (true story not many know, watch how he holds his glove he holds it close to his body to give the illusion its empty space to shoot at because he knows he can save it). it was high blocker and 5 hole and honestly just always being so far back in the crease in general. He relied too heavily on his reflexes which were the best in the league but his positioning could have easily saved a goal a game had he worked on it. It's a shame. Still when you think about Toronto's goalies...Felix, then Cujo, Then Eddie Belfour and STILL nothing to come of it. Someone please just give us a prayer. lmao please.

I remember 27 years ago in September taking a short two minute walk from my apartment to maple leaf gardens and watching them play Montreal who didn't play Patrick Roy (preseason). Potvin was expected to be the next Patrick Roy in Montreal and the close runs that occurred in '93, '94 was them now expecting that to happen. Hype back then was huge in Toronto as the only way I could ever watch a game was preseason as tickets were too hard and expensive for the regular year.

Not too long ago, he was coaching in AAA for the Magog Cantonniers. He led his team to the 2019 Telus Cup tournament in Thunder Bay (where I called every game on the livestream except the final). They went undefeated in the round robin, but they would end up losing the final in overtime to the Toronto Young Nationals. I've been calling junior A games for a while in Thunder Bay, but prior to that, I had never done so many games in such a short period of time.

From his time with the Islanders, the biggest thing was Felix Potvin was the most prominent Felix to play on Long Island since Felix Millan. (Yes, Queens is part of Long Island). However, he wasn't the most prominent Potvin. He wasn't even the second most prominent Potvin. But they did get Dave Scatchard for him, and I loved Dave Scatchard as a player.

Felix was my favourite growing up an hour outside of Toronto. Brian Papineau, who's famous for squirting the water bottle after Borchevsky's game 7 OT winner in 93 vs Detroit, is from the same town as me. One thing I thought Shannon might mention about the Canucks' controversial decision to send Potvin to LA was that the Kings were then about 12 points out of a playoff spot. Then they get hot and Potvin nearly knocked the Canucks out of playoff contention in the third and second to last games of the season (that's kind of a recurring theme with the Canucks, as they gave up series winning goals in 2003 and 2004 to former Canucks Hendrickson and Gelinas, respectively). LA won 3-1 in LA but then the Canucks managed to eke out that thrilling OT victory in Vancouver where Harold Druken scored to tie the game and then pot the winner (with some nice assists from Todd Bertuzzi). It was also the game where Nazzy, who was injured, came out on his crutches and greeted the crowd beforehand. Nice video and a good career for Potvin (and thank you for not pushing us out of the playoffs in 2001!)

Yeah, I never understood why the Kings played him so much in '01-'02. His backup was Jamie Storr and he had a pretty good year. I looked it up, in 19 games he was 9-4-3 with a .922 save percentage, 1.90 goals against (!) and two shut outs. Granted, with more games those numbers probably would have gone down, but still hardly a sieve. Should have let him take some of the workload off Potvin.

Felix The Cat... Is he a HOF'er? there is certainly an argument to be made for sure - especially given how clutch he was and how he shined in the playoffs. Unfortunately the HOF goalie standards are much higher than for skaters, I mean there are several goalies that really should be in that aren't - Curtis Joseph and Chris Osgood are a couple, I mean it's criminal they're not it - but what about guys like Potvin, McLean, Liut or Beezer among a handful? look, if any of those guys got in you would hear no complaints from me - I think they all belong. I've been watching hockey for 35+ years now and there are only a handful of goalies I've seen play over the years that are in the HOF Belfour, Hasek, Brodeur, Fuhr, Billy Smith and Roy off the top of my head, that's not a lot over a 35 year span but if goalies need to have careers like that to get in then the HOF is a joke. On one hand they want the HOF exclusive but they put guys like Glen Anderson, Bernie Federko, Guy Carbeneau or Gump Worsley in but keep Bernie Nicholls, Charlie Simmer, Dave Taylor, Steve Larmer, Chris Osgood and Curtis Joseph out????? In what universe is Bill Smith any "better" than Chris Osgood or Cujo?? right... And no I'm not implying that Smith doesn't belong, what I'm saying is they all do because one cant make an objective er legitimate argument that Billy Smith is any more worthy than Chris Osgood, that's all... Sorry about the HOF rant when this is supposed to be about The Cat, lol - still, this involves him too. smh

Indeed Potvin has been forgotten, if you're looking to bring light to "the forgotten" then how about a video on Beezer, Mike Liut, Charlie Simmer or Dave Taylor? Heck Kevin Stevens, Bernie Nicholls and Rob Brown too, tho I'm not suggesting that Rob Brown is worthy of much as far as honors but he did have a very "interesting" career to say the least and a very "interesting" personality to go with it, lol.. Not the most humble guy to say the least.. Another great subject for a video would be Joe Murphy as well, he was pretty damn good in his prime and it's unfortunate how things worked out for him..
