Karen was special with a once-in-a-lifetime voice. She had the voice of an angel and sang so effortlessly but with such depth of emotion. Other songs to check out are Superstar, Close To You, Rainy Days and Mondays, Only Yesterday. She sadly died so young and so tragically at the age 32 of an eating disorder.

Karen and her Brother were the Carpenters, plus their band. She has one of the most fantastic voices in music. Unlike anyone else's. Many people don't know she was also one heck of a DRUMMER. She was shy, but that voice. Try Superstar for one of the most beautiful and haunting songs of all time.

@@bmack2938 Hmmm. Hard to say where they heard that. Maybe they read it on Wikipedia, “ Superstar" was recorded by Karen on her first take, singing the lyrics that had been Produced by Richard Carpenter with Jack Daugherty, it was recorded with members of "The Wrecking Crew," a famed collection of Los Angeles-area session musicians. As the song's storyline was originally more risqué than what was typical for the Carpenters, Richard changed a lyric in the second verse from "And I can hardly wait/To sleep with you again" to the somewhat less suggestive "And I can hardly wait/To be with you again." The track was finished in one take. Karen Carpenter's vocal was praised for its intensity and emotional nature. David Hepworthcommented about Karen Carpenter's performance: "Even with only half her mind on the job, she delivered a perfect performance. The guide vocal never needed to be replaced." scribbled by Richard onto a napkin”. Then again, they might have read this: “ In the studio, they called her “One Take Karen” because Karen Carpenteralways hit her notes perfectly.

Every wedding I attended in the seventies played this song! Even my sister had this as her first dance married in 74. I gave her away when I was 12, then I brought it back in 92 when I got married myself too! We still dance to it occasionally. Such a loss of beauty and talent, we’re lucky to have had Karen with us for the short time we did. RIP 🥺

My favorite female voice-ever. She was beautiful. Depth of soul...that's why you "feel" that...it has nothing to do with external circumstance, but an inward reality-faith, hope, love. These songs bear weight, because they're very real-and so was she...the songs, her voice(like no other, to me)reveal the heights of joy, happiness, longing, desire-and pain, heartache, emptiness. They speak of life, in it's journey. Full of mystery, hope, and anticipation...as well as the struggles and difficulties, we all so commonly face. Everyone can relate to that. But with her, it was so exceptionall special, unique...you can truly feel it-the profound depth. And her brother Richard, was amazing at arranging all of that musically. Amazing. GOD bless them.

Karen & Richard Carpenter whom were siblings, there is a movie called The Karen Carpenter Story, I remember watching that movie my 6th grade year in 1990 and during the parts where they were singing no one talked, just only when their mother was so oblivious to what was going on we did. Also ar the end not one dry eye in the classroom either, didn't matter who was Asian, Black, or White in the class, not one dry eye and we were all in awe of her voice and story. You should watch it one day for yourself or a reaction, you'll love it

I laughed when you said they sound kind of Black, because I always think of Karen as having one of the most amazing white-sounding voices ever. But you were absolutely correct when you heard the jazz influence. They are both highly accomplished jazz musicians, and originally played in the Richard Carpenter jazz trio and won prizes before they obtained a record deal. Their lush, overdubbed harmonies were greatly inspired by Les Paul (inventor of the electric guitar) and Mary Ford. I have a feeling they would have taken being mistaken for Black artists as the high praise that it is 😊

I was just a little guy listening to the Carpenters growing up. Unfortunately she was the one that introduced the World to Anorexia. Her voice was angelic. "Rainy Days and Mondays" brings tears to my eyes. I remember her for her voice and glory, not for the "A" word I mentioned that has this 58 yr old guy in tears.
