Karen & Richard Carpenter appear on the Carol Burnett Show (of the early 1970's), in a tribute musical dedicated to the "oldies but goodies" of yester year.
Very old source video, allowances will have to be made due to the archival nature of the material.

She was a fan of Old School Hollywood, especially Jazz Age. She idolized Judy Garland, and let's not forget that when she married Tom Burris she wore a wedding dress that was obviously inspired by Rita Hayworth's wedding dress when Rita wedded Aly Khan. In Jazz Age Hollywood, people HAD to be versatile artists.

Karen Carpenter was born too late. If she had lived in Jazz Age Hollywood, just like Judy Garland, The Andrews Sisters and Rita Hayworth, she would have been a super screen acting-dancing-singing diva. She would have followed the acting career she dreamed of and wouldn't have to worry about her physical shape, for beauty standards were different (and much healthier) back then. That's so sad!

renarga It's true. I think too that she was not born at the good moment. Maybe she was born too later, she could play drums like she wanted and sang. She could be recognise like an excellent drummer. But during these years, a woman who play drums was not encourage and the mentality of people was less open than now.

Not true at all . Judy Garland as well as others had issues with her weight and food. But publicists we’re able to hide it then.

If she were born in the 70s or beyond her talent would have been completely over looked and lost in the rap crap garbage they try and pass off as music. She was born at exactly the right time as the 50-70s era of music bought forth the greatest creation of music in world history.

Thanks for posting this. ONJ described karen as bring similar to a clown. Someone who could make people laugh but struggled with other introspective issues. She spoke of wanting to do Broadway I think she would have been good at it.

That was so good and so refreshing. And we've got Kardashian what...? for entertainment these days?? I guess I'm just old, but originality and creativity seems so lost these days. As Karen once sang, "Take me back, take me back home" (Road Ode).

The fact that variety shows were overabundant in the 1970s and 1980s does nothing to change the fact that Karen Carpenter was also an amazing actress and dancer.

Karen has self-esteem issues from the time she was born because her own family didn't think of her as truly being the special one. Unfortunately, she believes them
