Former Vice President Joe Biden has been a familiar face in American politics for decades. And he’s built his long career on personal relationships - relationships with fellow Democrats, but also with Republicans. More than any other candidate in this race, Biden’s campaign is defined by his belief that consensus among the parties isn’t only possible. It’s preferable.
It’s an outlook shaped by Biden’s past experiences, and in an election defined by competing visions of the future, Biden’s nostalgic style stands out. But Vox’s Laura McGann argues that the case for Biden is all about where, and with whom, that moderate, nostalgic message will resonate. Because if you look to the election that won Democrats the House of Representatives in 2018, the message that drove that victory looks a lot like Biden’s.

0IIIIII The point I believe you’re missing is this: “Why vote for someone who will flip-flop on important issues solely based on what will get them votes, when there is a candidate running who has consistently fought for just causes throughout their WHOLE life, regardless of whether it was popular?” Or put differently: why cast a vote for an inferior candidate?

Friday Movies inferior how? There is nothing inferior about heeding the messages of the people. The policies don’t change. Furthermore Biden offers other policies that are more appealing than Sanders. Sanders has no concern about the plight of Afghans, Biden does. Bernie’s polices are also fringe and will never pass the GOP controlled Senate. I think Sanders is unappealing.

@@darkhighwayman1757 the economy is in a bubble. The banks are giving out the same disastrous loans that led to the 2008 great recession. The US government is having to buy those loans to keep the bubble from bursting. The rich get richer and don't need to worry about any repercussions because they bought the US government years ago. Besides that, the poor are being crushed under greater debt, having to work more jobs, can't see a doctor unless they're dying, then going bankrupt from said medical bills, but yeah the economy is doing just great

The only thing they see are the numbers shown in Fox News, so Dems have to find a candidate the CAN BEAT TRUMP in those states. Joe Biden has a mild speech disorder that causes him to stutter. For this reason, when he is on stage, he tends to speak a lot slower, and he chooses his words more carefully. Biden still sometimes sounds incoherent. Many of his opponents use this to claim that he is not mentally fit to take office.

Also I know you're pulling out the Venezuela argument because they "had socialism." Venezuela is not socialist in the slightest. I think they did this because Trump is the incumbent for the Republican Party, so he isn't running against anyone else in the primaries which was happening when this video came out. Biden was competing for the Democratic Party nomination, so they made this video for him as well as a video for the other Democrat nominees. Remember, this video came out in February of this year before Biden was the Democratic nominee.

He was the reason why racism against black was at an all time high in recent history, he was responsible for putting black people in Jail and responsible for putting people to unemployment and economy under him is currently bad. Gas prices went up twice/triple the prices, food, daily necessities. Crime is also at an all time high because of Joe Biden policy not to mention the border crisis, which led to several refugees storming into the U.S illegally meanwhile their Americans suffer from unemployment and low paying jobs due to inflations. Afghanistan also another reason why he was hated then there was Myanmar takeover, the Israel-Palestine conflict and now Ukraine-Russia conflict where he is sending money to, in the expense of the American people. His son is also involved in corruption scandals and mainstream media are defending Biden, calling him a savior and better than Trump Considering everything he did is the exact opposite. Joe Biden is a fool.

American's have a very naive analysis of the economy. They assume the president just has an inflation and unemployment lever they can pull on when in reality the economy is very fickle to global forces. If you want to know what Biden has done look into the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, the American Rescue Plan, and the Inflation Reduction Act. All of these are massive pieces of legislation that on their own would make Biden a legislatively effective president.

@@dr.apollo4226 Simple, because they aren't his views. His base is African Americans. He was VP to an African American President. But sure he's worse than Trump, who's amoral faults are too countless to name. The only consolation is that Bernie is going to be a two time loser.

You clearly missed an important bit where she added "...in American History". Having the 3rd most progressive platform in American history is kind of a big deal. So yeah, it was a pretty big comment.

@@joeya5147it's a bit silly in my opinion to compare modern political goals with those of the past. Practically every dem candidate looks progressive if you compare them to those from the 90's and earlier, but that is a low bar to reach. the overton window has shifted dramatically in the last 4 years thanks to progressives such as Bernie and to a lesser extent Warren as well. Biden has shifted to stay afloat because policy and social attitudes have shifted beyond what he has adopted during his career. Let us not forget it is because of people like Biden that these huge structural changes need to take place, his philosophy and that of his ilk are why structural inequalities exist and survive.

He is, objectively speaking. It’s just that Bernie has shifted the conversation so far left (in terms of American politics anyway, Bernie is a moderate almost anywhere else in the world) that people don’t have a good grasp of what a progressive is anymore. Bernie is a socialist. Biden is a progressive. Hillary Clinton was a moderate. Bill Clinton was a conservative.

George Daugherty no, he’s Republican-lite. He just jumped on the progressive and populist bandwagon cause he saw Bernie was smashing him and still is in general polls. He didn’t support a $15 min wage until last year, Bernie has backed that for a huge chunk of his career. Biden voted for the Iraq War, that’s unforgivable

@@ToddHowar.d Eh, it's really quite forgivable. We didn't know the facts that we know now. Hindsight is 20/20 with the Iraq War. His policies RIGHT NOW, still makes the 3rd most progressive candidate in the last 50 years or more in American History. He's a progressive, plain and simple. America WILL NOT go further left than him EVER, so by American Standards, he's a progressive.

2:40 "If Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders weren't there, I think the headlines would be 'Joe Biden is running on the most progressive policy platform in American history'" It is interesting to consider if his policy would be so progressive if not for the momentum generated by prominent progressives like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth warren before this. He was specifically chosen to be a more conservative balance to Barack Obama so I personally doubt it.
