I've never even thought of laminating thinner expensive wood to thicker cheaper wood. Yet another reason to watch and learn. Thanks

That’s basically what veneering is. It’s just easier (as well as higher quality, albeit more expensive) to do it with quarter inch thick veneers than 1/32 “ thick veneers.

Hi Steve: I LOVE that you watch Ana White and credited her with the drawer slide technique!! I just saw it, too, and it is genius. I've been frustrated with installation videos and hers nailed it. Love your approach and it's really helped me get past my hurdles.

As a new woodworker, , I love your videos! They are very informative and I learn something from each one I watch! I am still in the "what else can I make out of 2x4s" phase and quickly moving into "I need cheap "fancy" wood" phase. Also being a 48 yo female with a non-woodworking husband, the only resource I have for learning is KZfaq. So, thank you for videos.

Hey CodeFoxAu. I'm guessing that the majority of Steve's viewers are individuals who can't afford a lot of fancy/expensive tools or woodworking schools. He's always kept us 'poor folks' in mind and I think that he will probably continue to do so.

Hey Steve. I see that you don't wear jewelry on your hands or wrists and no loose clothing (bravo!). I'd love to see you do a shop safety video some time. My cousin used to teach about safety around machinery and wouldn't you know it... a few years later, he was working a table saw and the blade took his wedding ring, along with his ring finger, half of 2 other fingers along with half of his thumb. The blade grabbed his hand and drew it right into the blade. SO dangerous. Power tools are no joke! I love your videos! My shop is coming along nicely and I've taken some of your tips along the way! Thanks Steve!

Plot Twist: Steve actually hand carved those bird draw pulls himself, but if we knew about his extra fancy hand-tool skills we would no longer consider him a Mere Mortal Woodworker. Seriously, I love it when you do project videos like this, there's always just the right amount of detail in the build process to be informative but not so much that it becomes tedious. Great build!

Hi Steve, thank you for all the work you put into the video's. I became a dad for the first time yesterday and with your help managed to build our first piece of custom furniture! 1 of many more to come. I really feel like without your "mear mortal" approach i would not have thought I could have done it so, once again: thanks!!!

I like the style of your videos. I understand why you want to charge for the “powered up” version...you gotta make some money too. But you give us the option to watch the overview for free. I’m not intending to make this desk, but I just enjoy watching people make their projects so people like myself can still enjoy your content for free. Thanks!

Steve, I will be purchasing one or more of your courses. I built a workbench from some modified April Wilkerson plans for the bike shop portion of my garage with the help of my woodworking next door neighbor. I am now just a router table away from building my wife some very expensive Adirondack chairs. Hoping to improve my skills to build my daughter some furniture for her apartment when she move's off campus in a year. Thanks for what you do!

I saw the same video from Ana white and happen to do the same for a client. Worked out well. It's funny I'm always looking for a cheap desk to buy on Facebook farmers market or criegslist because it's cheaper than making it also the old "Shoe makers kids have holes in there soles" but I really like your idea and I can make it to the size I need. I think I need to take a break and fix my own home. Lol. Thanks for sharing

I think that is a very useful idea to build the drawers as a separate box, then attach the other legs/side on with rails, and then put the top on. If you ever wanted to make the desk longer, or put drawers on the other side you could just unscrew it all and modify it.

Perhaps it's unfair to compare you to the the wood whisperer, but your videos are just orders of magnitudes more enjoyable to watch for me, they are so much more relatable to the kind of woodworking that I do and the equipment that I have in my garage. I don't think my woodworking skills are ready for this kind of project yet, but I'm close and slowly getting there. Thank you for the great content. Currently I'm in the process of moving to another country, once I'm settled enough to want to start woodworking again - you can bet your backside that I'll sign up for your "setting up woodworking shop in a small space".

I really like the desk and may try out the design one day. Especially the drawer build out; that's something I struggle to get right. I really enjoy your build videos. Your editing is done well, and I appreciate the succinct way you explain your process. I hope you make more build videos, perhaps by replacing all the factory furniture in your house. Maybe a build video requiring organising "that mess" in the corner of the office could be next? I wrote "build video" 4 times. I hope that means something to KZfaq.

Pine may be inexpensive, but I am still using a solid pine desk my dad built for me when I was a kid...it's about 25 years old now, and never been fixed, touched up, or anything. Still looks good too! I'm sure it isn't a straight as it was when it was first built, but I can't notice. And the wood is a little soft for a desk top, but like I said, still holding up after many years of daily use.
