There is a catto boi game named catto boi and the titanium biscuit which is no horror catto boi but just like every other game it was removed but Titanium biscuit was not finished so it is still being worked on

Irisu Syndrome is so undermentioned for meta-horror imo. One of the earliest "mess with the files" games I remember finding.

Catto Boi's level design reminds me a lot of the 'Luna Game' series. Basically they were MLP creepypasta platformers (yes MLP creepypastas were a thing) that had a similar gimmick and the exact same type of blocky level design. I wouldn't be surprised if the dev was inspired by Luna Game slightly.

My favorite meta-horror game and one that sadly doesn't get mentioned often is Fremdganger - The Cheating Demon. It's the only one I know where the 4th wall breaks are an actual gameplay mechanic you have to interact with to solve puzzles, and the way the twist is revealed is just genius.

For people who didn’t know: Cat boy journey doesn’t actually hack your computer, it only acts like it is for a good horror game-ish look. It messes around with your mouse and some other things.

Question to anyone who might know: for games like A Dark Place thay actively screw with your PC, is there a way to add in a fail safe or some kind of way to force stop the program for the player? Like if the game is becoming too much for them or they just need they're PC back, they can just press the combination and force it to stop.

In a dark place specifically I know that you can just close the game, unless you’re actively playing it nothing should really happen

Pressing your PC power button for 3-4 seconds will kill (not as bad as it sounds, just means it immediately shuts off without going through stuff like updates) your system. Not great to do it super often, but unless the game has embedded itself in your "launch at start" (something which any program must specifically ask your permission for, at least on Windows) you're golden. Even games that DO restart your computer (and thus rely on restarting at launch) won't start after this. They do this in a different way, basically they execute a one-time code that tells the computer to launch them on restart before shutting it down. They also can only work on a "natural" restart, so will be stopped by a full kill. Absolute WORST CASE, like you gave it permission to start at launch for some reason? On the boot screen (generally where you have a spinning circle, right before your login screen), press and hold F11 and select that you want to go into Safe Mode. This lets you start your system without any of the non-default "start at launch" programs running. EDIT: the way to tell a kill from a proper shutdown is that a restart will 'load out' - that is to say, actually go through shutdown - while killing will just immediately turn off your system, the screen will just turn black.

I've gotten in the habit of going into taskmanager and kicking every new program I download out of the startup section bc for some reason, even photo editing apps think I need to do that first thing in the morning.

This vid just kinda popped into my recommended, and dang, that was a fun watch. As someone who's been a major fan of the Catto Boi series for over a year now, I pretty much agree with all of the points you've made in the video, and I 100% agree that the first remake is a good step in the right direction (as much as it does suck to see the old games gone, but eh, people have complained about that enough lol). also the editing was really fun. i definitely gotta check out your other stuff cause again, this was a pretty fun watch.

when the darkness comes also 4th wall breaks it creates hidden folder and files all over your pc, i lasted play it a year ago and still find files to the day. it even COMPLETELY bricks your game to the point where it makes 3 random folders in random places and you have to delete all of them to unbrick your game, if you try to cheat or end up dying and changes your wallpaper

if i ever made a horror game, i would have a failsafe, so the game would have full access to your files, but there would always be a warning, and a button to quit the entire game, deleting any file messing around withs, and a basically undo button

I remember one time while i was playing a dark place on windows 11 (when it was still broken) i was on the train part and explorer died on my second screen and i was like. Oh boy here comes the jumpscrare but it was not what i was expecting. my game hided itseif and an error message poped up with random unicode symbols and the the third error message still had random unicodes but it had explorer in it. and then my pc just logged off. And back then i was like Wtf just happend? And to this day. I still dont know what happened.
