As a past Protestant I can say deep down it is pride. A learned Protestant sticks to their belief as they claim the Bible is their authority. However, in reality it is them themselves. As a Protestant you can twist scripture however you like to make it conform to your wanted beliefs.

Don't go beyond what is written? The whole doctrine of The Trinity is revelation that goes beyond what was written, extrapolated from scripture but the resolution is not defined in scripture.

When josh claims the Catholic faith’s foundation is wrong why is he starting at Vatican II to refute it? 😂

What Josh is essentially claiming is that there existed a process (by divine design) of relocating apostolic authority and doctrine from the living apostles to their writings - positively excluding any transmission of that same authority to their successors. This process developed until the death of the last apostle at which point no Christian had or needed any other apostolic authority than the apostolic writings. The problem with this theory is that it does not match what we know about the church in the late first, second, third, and fourth centuries. The evidence from that early period tells a different story about the transmission of divine revelation, a story that much more closely matches the Catholic theory of apostolic succession. The church at that time shows no evidence of behaving as if sola scriptura were true. Josh’s theory of the total relocation of apostolic authority and doctrine to the apostolic writings alone upon the death of the last apostle is an ad hoc theory designed to justify the 16th century doctrine of sola scriptura. But when we examine the early post-apostolic evidence we discover a community operating very differently than the Christian communities that have historically embraced sola scriptura over the last five-hundred years. It is self-defeating to try and evade this criticism by claiming that the early post-apostolic church was a corrupt or false form of Christianity over against the Bible, which allegedly teaches sola scriptura, since the very text and canon assumed by that argument comes to us through the allegedly corrupt or false church - and only appears in its present canonical form hundreds of years into the history of that allegedly corrupted or false church that by that time was undeniably Catholic. In short, if I’m not going to trust the judgement of the church of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th century in matters of apostolic doctrine, then I have no reason to trust its judgment regarding the canon of scripture. And if I reject its judgment regarding the canon of scripture, then there is no canon of scripture.

Bc when i came back to the faith, i was walking around telling people im a reborn again Christian, without knowing what that really meant 🤦🏻‍♂️ but since i knew the problems with protestantism christianity, i went back to the early apostolic church fathers, & read my way into the RCC. Even thou I almost became an eastern orthodox, i softened my heart, & just prayed to God for truth. As i always start a conversation with atheists, i ask them, if Christianity were true would u be a Christian, most of them say "NO", thats when i know to dust off and move on to the next soul. So i took my own advice, and said to the Lord if Catholicism is true, I'll be a catholic Lord, so I see it as, not that i read myself into the church alone, but by reading and praying to God, having discernment, asking God show me were im wrong, thats what i believe is the only way, a protestant, r orthodox Christians will see the truth of the RCC. Bc when i talk to orthodoxs, i ask them this question about Catholicism, 9 out 10 they all say no ill never be a Roman Catholic, it hurts me so bad, bc alot of the orthodoxs ik were ex-protestants. So it all boils down to hatred for the RCC, and that's why people can't see it, bc they choose not to see it, and that's when God will not uncircumcised your heart, he will hand you over to reprobated mind. Josh adds words to the Bible, than says how the Church is unbiblical.

When I was an Evangelical I tried to prove sola scriptura was the truth by looking in the Bible to find out how it defined “Word of God”. I discovered that the Bible does not define the Word of God as only what was written in scripture.

excellent Trent..I'm a lifelong Catholic but was " love bombed" by neighbors who were Protestant while growing up.. I appealed to Parish priests who were helpful but you and others have provided in depth analysis of the one true religion...back then,I didn't have many answers but never left the faith and glad I didn't...Amen

I think it's very interesting that Protestant Apologist insist that Catholics teach a false Gospel while misrepresenting what Catholics actually teach and then tell you what their interpretation of Scripture is. If they were following what I see Catholic Apologist do and give the strongest possible argument for Protestantism and then refute it, I guarantee most of these well read Protestant Apologist will convert to the true faith. We do know however that this would take a great in-working of grace from the Holy Spirit, since it is only by grace that we are drawn to God and live in him. Many of these Protestant Apologist likely on some level know the truth but continually reject his voice (although this is a presumption on my part).

I absolutely love these rebuttals. As a recent convert they are so helpful. Before I converted I listened to many debates and it is so helpful to have both interpretations in one place. Too many protestants making videos that misrepresent the teachings of the church. Very frustrating.

I'm new to Catholicism coming from a secular worldview so these protestant theologies are also new to me. But they always seem like they're splitting hairs. At some point, any of these non-denominational or whatever Christian churches must have a council of their own and decide what the scriptures mean to them. How is that different from what the Catholic church is doing? Except the Catholic church has the intellectual pedigree. There always seems to be some pride embedded in these pastor guys. They way they say things like "So now listen to this!" like they have a secret to reveal. Not to mention this guy obviously has resentment.

As a protestant who's leaning towards Catholicism I was wondering if you can make a video responding to Jay Dyer's video called "Top 10 Reasons Why I'm Not Roman Catholic". He's a popular orthodox apologist who critiques Catholicism and he kind of makes me doubt the Catholic faith, especially the fact that no Catholics ever responds to his critiques.

People like Josh are what you get when you reject the authority of the true Church and set out the have your own church. You get all these keen, half-informed, minimally-opposed, people who think they have these great gotchas that have been repeatedly refuted.

It's ironic that at 29:20, Josh is actually talking about himself in this prediction as someone who leads people astray and he doesn't realize it.

What fascinates me with people like Josh is that he expects us to accept HIS interpretation of the Bible rather than relying on the 2000 years that the magesterium of the Church teaches us. That is the whole point in the third pillar of the truth: the collective wisdom of the magesterium is much safer and far more reliable than any one individual trying to understand and preach it. If you need any further proof of this, just listen to Josh and the nonsense he speaks. It is like a kindergarten kid trying to teach a university graduate. The gates of Hades HAVE prevailed against people like him who are trying to draw people away from the Christian (ie CATHOLIC) Church.

I’m so sad, I’ve read and heard the name Trent Horn probably 100 times while watching conversion stories and videos by searching Protestants like the Ten Minute Bible Hour and the guy Matt Fradd has been talking to, Bertuzzi? I’ve heard Trent’s name mentioning in company with apologists the likes of Scott Hahn and yet, this is the first time I’ve ever seen a video or heard his style of rebuttal. I feel awful that I was so lazy and assumed he would just flow into my happy Catholic path, although he did today, but I’m sad I haven’t heard him before. Regarding the letter Paul wrote to the Corinthians, he wasn't specifically referring to a revealed truth; his statement was in reference to the disputes they were having and wanted to make sure there were no misrepresentations of his messsage.

Anyone else see the irony of when a protestant says that Catholic have a flase Jesus and a false gospel? It's basically them admitting they have a false gospel and a false Jesus.

It's really funny to see this guy's self-assured attitude punctuated by Trent's counterpoints that totally dismantle his position. It really highlights his arrogance and how shallow it is.

Here is something I always find odd. Sola scriptura would explicitly imply that any quote from Jesus is 100% true. Yet, when Jesus prays to God (essentially himself), he asks that the church stay as “one” as He and the father are “one”. He goes on to say that the gate of hell will come against the church but “they will not prevail”. After reading that, with the sola in mind, wouldn’t you say that Christ said there is one church, that he established, that will always stay as one? That church, one and holy, of apostolic succession, is the Roman Catholic Church. I have a question for this ( Josh )? In Acts 10, we read about a man, a centurion, a gentile ( uncirmcumcised ), anyway, we read that this Cornelius was a devout person and we know that he was not a Jew, so my question to you Josh, to which God ( or god ) was Cornelius praying? If you tell me that he was praying to the true God, then how come he was called a gentile? uncircumcised? an enemy of the Jews? Anf if he was not praying to the true God, then how come the angel appeared to him and told him that his prayers and his alms have ascended as a memorial before God?

One thing that I can't help but feel unsatisfied with is that you did not address the second part of the quote from Lumen Gentium, namely, that it states Muslims worship the one merciful God with us (obviously paraphrasing) and the guy from the video seemed to be more concerned about that, rather than the first part of the statement, which you chose to address. He does recognize that the document says Muslims "profess" to hold the faith of Abraham, so I am not sure you actually addressed his point. His issue is that we claim unity with them.. So I think what he is implying can be summed up in this question: Can we claim unity in worship and adoration if we do not actually have unity in faith, as you admit in your rebuttal? By the way, I recently came across a possible explanation of this from Tim Gordon's channel, where he mentions (although does not necessarily champion the point) that the definite article "the" does not exist in the Latin, so maybe we can transliterate it to say "...they adore one merciful God..." which is technically not wrong I guess? Maybe I missed something too. So if Muslims profess to hold the faith of Abraham and it isn't correct divine revelation and it's wrong historically as well. How can the Muslims be part of the plan of salvation? I'm genuinely confused. Im reading 'plan of salvation' to mean being saved. Thanks in advance for any help understanding this.
