Hey everyone, I'm so excited to show you the rest of my South Dakota travels! Check out a cool, interesting perspective of Mt. Rushmore and then a quick visit to the amazing Mammoth Site! You managed to get quite a bit of quality stuff in a short time. I am having to really wrap my brain around the idea that Rushmore was created with jackhammers and dynamite! What an accomplishment. If you haven't made it already , Arizona has a petrified forest , Sedona cliffs and Cave Creek giant rocks ! lots of stuff here!

Interesting environment and rich in history. You could walk for miles and not get tired of the scenery

Aww, the memories! I once lived as a hermit in that cave for over 60 years. One day folks started coming 'round and soon started the carving and all the noise lead me to move to New Hampshire and I found an even better cave!

Excellent video! Mount Rushmore is a great place to visit. They have a great lighting ceremony every night too where they invite veterans and current military members to participate. I've heard of Toadstool before but had no idea it looked so cool! I need to get down there soon.

Another great video, Thanx Chris....ya Pam, Lean v.... that is what I know to be true also. During the initial blasting to start this colossal project, TNT took down some huge pieces of the mountain, falling together, making a 'space' between them, not really a cave as Webster's defines. But that didn't stop the National Park Service from making it into a tourist spot...pretty cool view from there for sure.

Neat! I had no idea stairs were put in to walk on. I need to go there and make a video.

There is another cave up on top. My Aunt and Uncle used to go there back in the 40’s and 50’s. They said it was possible to go into the cave up there and when you came to one spot you could look out one President’’s eye. Now you need to go back.

I grew up in Hot Springs. The mammoth site was quite the discovery in its day. Clearing land for building houses is how the bones were first discovered. The old plywood shack that used to cover it, which they did give tours in, was nothing compared to what it is today. Buffalo Gap was my home more recently, (though not now) The Church was converted to a home within the last five years. The first old building you videoed used to be a gas station and convenience store around the late eighties early nineties. I won't give the owners name but they still live nearby. The next building around the corner was the original store owned by an elderly couple who ran it until their death back in the seventies, efforts have been made to keep it standing while preserving the front wall and appearance. The woman's name was Dorothy, a very nice woman. City Hall was once a bank. Did you notice the large sandstone building on the hill? That was the school at one time, Kind through 8th grade. Now converted into a house, the inside is awesome. I believe it's for sale for around 750,000 dollars last I heard. Glad you made it out here and happy you enjoyed Mt Rushmore. It's in my backyard... sort of...

Come to Prairie Village in Madison South Dakota. You will love the spot to experience living in the late 1800s. A site to enjoy!

The toadstool rock formations reminded me of a few construction site dump zones I've encountered. That, said; it also looks like lake bottom sediment (the Wikipedia entry is sparse on info). Most likely - probably around the end of glaciation approximately 10,000 years ago there would have been a lake in the area. It could have been fed by the glacial melt. When the glaciers went away, so did the lake.

I been to Mt. Rushmore! I grew up in Nebraska! There are more things to see in Nebraska and South Dakota!

We had features like the toadstool park where I lived in southern NM. They were not protected and were bulldozed when people started buying land and moving out there in the 90's. Some have survived but the grandeur of it all has been lost. Very disappointing.

If can find the entrance through the cave, you will find the legendary Native American city of gold, once discovered by Nicolas Cage.

honestly i was expecting the REAL Mt rushmore cave inside the mountain that borglum was going to make a kind of "hall of fame" but funding was cut and he also died

Have you ever been through cave creek az? There are boulders on boulders on boulders kinda like those toad stools. Looks like a stiff breeze could cause some real problems. Lol.

I went there in 2000 (or there about) if I recall correctly I got a picture of Mount Rushmore looking up from the cave. Unfortunately, we were still using film and those pictures are now long gone due to a house fire in 2012.

The Black Hills and the surrounding area is always a favorite place to vacation in. But every time I go, there's one or two places I haven't been to. Tried to go to Wonderland Cave but they were closing just as I came in :/ The Mammoth Site is awesome, isn't it? I loved it when I went there. I think some of the mammoths have names, there's one named Napoleon Boneaparte if I remember.

That area is very Holy land of the Lakota Indians. I have traveled all around the black hills, it was spiritual exsperience.

For another trip in Nebraska check out ash fall beds monument North of U.S. 20 in North central Nebraska the volcanic ash found here was deposited after the explosion of a super volcano in what is now southern Idaho, and preserves many dinosaur fossils, but don't go on a Monday because it's closed.

This looks like it was at one time all flat even land but enormous sink holes opened up over time and this is the result.
