So we have a long and dishonorable history of trying to outlaw homelessness without helping them.

Pretty much, although for the travelling folk, it was, and is, a way of life. Some took houses when offered, some didn't. Thank you for watching!

Another really interesting views. I didn't know that people were still living within cave until so recently.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's quite remarkable. There were numerous families who lived in caves all around the Scottish coast. They must've been hardy souls.

Interesting. I have deep ties with Travellers and met many McPhee's over the years, wondering if they are related to the cave dwellers 🤔

They could very well be related. They were well-known in Caithness and have gone down as legendary in the county. Thank you so much for watching x

These people, were too poor for the petty scruples of The Victorian Bourgeoisie.

The dwellers despised geese. They killed them all. Even the goslings were quartered and hanged. They kept uttering "No more quack quack!!"

Rather than being onomatopoeic, "tinkler" sounds to me to be a corruption (or mis-hearing) of "tinker" - a tinsmith or sheet metal worker.
@scotlandshistory
@scotlandshistory 3 ай бұрын
In Caithness they were called tinklers due to the sound of their tin goods clanking together on their carts. Thank you so much for watching.
@Nastyswimmer

@@scotlandshistory Surely they should have been called "clangers" then ;)

@@Nastyswimmer haha, you have a point! Perhaps I should've said tinkling rather than clanging.

Some of the local gentry were pretty scruffy. Folk weren't sure if they were Sinclairs or Tinklers. 😱
