One of the greatest albums of all time and definitely in my top 10. I remember buying the album without knowing the band because I loved the artwork. It took half a dozen listens before I was consumed by its musical and lyrical brilliance (My life is a Barclays' loan now, and a mortgage to pay). Mortgage interest rates were up at 15% plus and this album perfectly captured the stress a lot of us were feeling. And Burgess had absolutely the right voice to make me feel that he was a kindred spirit. Fucking immense album.

Me too! Bought it for the cover and never looked back. He sells a lamp of the cover that is pretty dang cool on his Patrion page. 😎

'Here today' the first Chameleons track me and my brother ever heard, [approx 40 odd years ago] he taped it off the legendary John Peel radio show. We were hooked, and now I sit here in New Zealand as a 60 year old and bro is in China both a long way from Belfast , N.Ireland . Mark Burgess lyrics mean more than ever now in these times.

Two people that absolutely can get away with being the only remaining original member of the band touring: Peter Hook (and the light), and Mark Burgess. Reg, Dave and John are irreplaceable but this incarnation is a reasonable emulation; they sound great! Funny, both are bassists too.

Great band. Tempestuous career. Interesting and near-great side projects (or post-breakup-pre-reformation projects). 5 min ago just discovered there's a 2xLP release of the 2019 tour (which I never knew about to begin with, typical of the ever changing always under the radar nature of the band). This could be good. I'll probably watch it. But damn, John is gone and Reg & Dave aren't here. Always a shaky proposition. I just hope Dave/Reg/John's family are getting properly compensated.
@edwardstockwell31673 жыл бұрын
This album is a litmus test for the world. If you can't engage in the lyrics and the message; the sonic guitars and the driving beats... well I guess you can go back to listening to Ms. Swift.

Having re formed in 2000 , Burgess & Fielding fell out in November 2002 I believe. It’s confusing because I read yesterday that Reg is playing with Mark Burgess at present ( or would’ve been if the tour hadn’t been put back again )..David Fielding isn’t pleased with the use of the name without “ Vox “ as has been for 10 years. John Lever passed away in ‘17 unfortunately. That’s my understanding if this clears your confusion 😁👍

I just don't know why things like this happen. That is Mark Burgess. This is not the chameleons. I know John is gone but Dave and Reg are still alive. Using the name is just poor form. I love you mark but theres a reason you feel uneasy. You know you shouldn't be doing this. But since you are heres a tip. Both guitars need to be equally boosted to the top of the mix. If your vocals are louder than either of the guitars the songs lose their depth and substance. Its not an ego thing,the songs are constructed so that the guitars leave room for your vocals but the weight of the music was shouldered by Dave and Reg . the soul of the music lives in your words and john pushed the whole thing down the road with persistent sympathetic percussion. You are singing at the top of your lungs, but the guitars are being suppressed and The reason you always sang these songs with all you had was because you were flanked by two brilliant guitarists who knew they each had to unleash one another's sound in order to give the songs life. If youre going to call yourself the chameleons, at least you could do yourself a favor and realize what made your band so unprecedented and irreplaceable. I saw you guys at spit in boston. One of the high points in my life. I was very conscious of the fact that I might never see you again. It was exquisite. Turn up the fucking guitars or go home. Soul in isolation sounds like a wind up toy trapped in its original packaging. I would go on but I have to stop the video. God bless you mark! I hope you read this.

The facebook page, under band members says, "Mark Burgess and whoever wants to play alongside him." Is this band comparable to Brian Jonestown Massacre, where they have been around for decades but there is one central figure who is the only consistent member?
@idiamin14574 жыл бұрын
Warrogue1 No they were pretty consistent for most of their career with The exception of Mark Burgess splinter group called I believe Mark Burgess and the sons of God and another one he called the sun and the moon and then there were a couple reunions of the original lineup the drummer John lever passed away recently but I believe the two original guitarists Reg Smithies and Dave Fielding are stlL kicking. Reg did all the original art for their album covers. Incredible band nothing like them anywhere I would still go see Mark play with whoever he could find that knows the songs but if I couldn’t hear the guitar‘s Id Go right up to the stage and tell them to turn it up
@Warrogue14 жыл бұрын
