This is so accurate, only slightly embellished. So many times as an intern you are pulled in every direction, causing each task to become more time consuming than it needs to be. In chaotic situations like this, a good senior resident can shine- picking up some slack, being more firm with consultants, entering a few orders during the presentation to make sure everything gets done efficiently.
@PsychoticusRex
@PsychoticusRex 2 жыл бұрын
Or suggesting the poor SOB is overworked, and over saturated (As pro pilots say.) and that the director of the hospital needs to be admitted for something the GI consult would love to be in on. Seriously, why is treating doctors like shit in their working environment par for the damn course; Dr's can dictate life or death, NO ONE wants to see a DR strike. High pay doesn't make up for anxiety attacks and heaps of responsibilities without the effective means to discharge them.

@@PsychoticusRex the ugly truth is its not always the hospital administration (although the system does play a large part in burnout). Seniors often have an anti-junior mentality.

All of us learned time management the hard way as interns. Three things: 1. Make friends with the nursing staff or you'll die. 2. Put the consult in the system THEN call the specialist - that way they can do it on their own time. (and recurrent afib w rvr IS a cardiology consult if it's resistant to medical management - no IM flea do EP studies) 3. If you have an asshat as a senior resident and/or attending, your fellow interns can help (and you must help them when they're the ones in the pressure cooker.

Then you accidentally forget to change the orders for the potassium and they stay hypokalemic until the end of the day when you do your notes and remember! And the patient in 406 is super cranky that it's somehow 1.58pm and you STILL haven't spoken to them!

A few years ago, my friend hired me to work as a script supervisor on his film. I don't know what a script supervisor usually does, but my job amounted to five people telling me to both never take my eyes off the script and also watch the action at all times. I was also told to feed lines to the actors when they paused, but also got a glare of death from the entire crew when I interrupted a very long pause to feed the lead actor his line. It was a lot like this video, except you're missing the part where I saw blue halos around everything for five days after staring at that white paper in the sunlight all weekend long.
